This is similar to that situation though! If your phone didn't support picturemail you were straight and didn't have to worry (basically like now.....I have a Touch Pro 2 and it doesn't support 4G)!

Now if I wanna get the EVO (which I will) than you need to get the $10 add-on (Because the EVO is the only phone to use it now)!

So basically your choices are 1) Get the phone and pay the extra $10 or 2) Don't get the phone and don't pay the extra $10!

I feel for people on family plans that wanna get this phone for all their lines or @ least 2 of'em............but for people on a single line.....WOW!
family plans are getting destroyed by these sep plans. these are probably the customers affected the most. they have to end up getting seperate plans or something like that if only one person has an sep phone.

I choose option 3..get the phone and just stare at it without activating!

That said we don't know how it will turn out for family plans..it may be like 20$ but everyone can get 1 or something...usually addons have multiple versions in sprint's system so there may even be a discounted/free addon for the new data plan

Yup a 4G plan > another extra addon for no reason..

I do believe the $10 may include other stuff but the point of addons is to get things separate of what you want and use and not bundled...maybe a discount bundle as an option but otherwise..

I mean wasn't the point of these "simply everything" plans to keep things simple? why ruin 2 years of work just for this?
So maybe he didn't lie about the 4G......if he went to court for this he would leave the victor because of how he worded it................but.......NOW...they're pretty much lying about their everything plans! They just called themselves liars!

Well he isn't liable what he says at a convention even if he said it was free and he plans on giving everyone a pink pony...but then again makes you wonder the direction of a company where even the CEO doesn't know whats going on...well I guess thats why they pay him the big bucks..to not know whats going on

Well..........the phone has 4G (correct me if I'm wrong but I think 4G acts like WiFi where you turn it on a connect to 4G) so even if you bought the phone without a plan couldn't you activate it on Metro or one of those other places and still use the 4G?!?!?!?!

the only way that would remotely work is if the phone has 2 data entries for the authentication...but they wouldn't be dumb enough to do that..are they?

edit:

no it probably won't work either because you aren't in the system for that phone...you'd have more luck activating it on clearwire..

Re: Use The Evo 4G With Your Existing Data Plan

Yeah......but I thought 4G doesn't support voice, just data?! I also thought 4G was just like WiFi where if you're at a hotspot or an area that has 4G then you can turn 4G on on the phone and use it?! So even if you didn't have it activated on Sprint the phone still has the ability to use 4G, right?!

How about what you said but just trying to use the 4G.....you know......just buy the phone without a plan but still use it with 4G.....if its anything similar to WiFi?!

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way..4G isn't free..unless you want me to buy my own 4G tower and use my own home internet as a backbone lol

You can do voice via VOIP..same way the video chat works with Qik...Clearwire actually provides VOIP via wimax..but only stationary for home. But even with mobile I'm sure there are VOIP apps for android.

Ironically Clearwire charges 40$ a month for 4g connectivity and 70$ for 2 people..but considering the rates for 4g are much cheaper >.>..then say paying 30$ a month for wifi hotspotting on an evo

With the $10 premium, many jumped off of the fence citing to keep their existing plan. This thread isn't a discussion about how disappointed we are. The EVO is STILL a must have for us.

How much EVO funtionality would be lost by simply using it's WIFI? If you turn your existing phone (keeping your plan) into a WiFi hotspot (WMWifirouter), and purchase the EVO without contract (rumored @ $450), would the purchase be worth it? In other words, use the EVO's WiFi on your existing 'unlimited' data plan. When you're at home, maybe use your home network's WiFi.

The drawbacks that I can easily see are these:

1). Must carry 2 devices.
2). Cannot make phone calls on the EVO (Skype excluded).
3). Slower internet speed than 4G.

Advantages:

1). You get what you wanted: An EVO in your hand.
2). Depending on your existing plan, pay much less than an Everything Data Plan over time.

Could this be viable solution? Any other items that you can think of?
ummm, wouldnt this not work?? first off, WMWifirouter starts ICS while its booting.. no ICS, no WMWIFI... now, that EVO has to be activated on some carrier if you want it to transmit a signal..

i have 2 extra touch pros sitting here.. both still apped up and modded out, just not activated(imagine this is your EVO)... if i turn on WMWifirouter and run it, its Not going to turn an unactivated phone into a wifi hotspot..

when you use WMWifirouter you see 2 processes
Cellular DATA/SPRINT (this is stay saying 'connecting'....)
and
WIFI Network WMWifiRouter

and youll get a continuall pop-up saying "cannot connect" dialed #777 'cannot connect for unknow reason... blah blah blah"

its not gonna work... not using wmwifiRouter for sure anyways..

am i missing something?? you guys know something i dont??

unactivated phone = not being able to use it for wifi...

**you can buy it, use it on your home or anywifi network and still use eveything but sms and phone calls***

***oh wait, the smokes wearing off... or do you mean run WMWifiRouter from my TP2, and run the EVO of that, minus sms and phone calls?? thats do-able*** LOL

pardon my altered state folks
