Use The Evo 4G With Your Existing Data Plan

There are many people who are on legacy plans (SERO, F&F, F&C) that were on the fence about buying the EVO. They would have to give up their plan and move to an Everything Data Plan, possibly paying double or triple in doing so. With the $10 premium, many jumped off of the fence citing to keep their existing plan. This thread isn't a discussion about how disappointed we are. The EVO is STILL a must have for us.

How much EVO funtionality would be lost by simply using it's WIFI? If you turn your existing phone (keeping your plan) into a WiFi hotspot (WMWifirouter), and purchase the EVO without contract (rumored @ $450), would the purchase be worth it? In other words, use the EVO's WiFi on your existing 'unlimited' data plan. When you're at home, maybe use your home network's WiFi.

The drawbacks that I can easily see are these:

1). Must carry 2 devices.
2). Cannot make phone calls on the EVO (Skype excluded).
3). Slower internet speed than 4G.

Advantages:

1). You get what you wanted: An EVO in your hand.
2). Depending on your existing plan, pay much less than an Everything Data Plan over time.

Could this be viable solution? Any other items that you can think of?
