Re: Use The Evo 4G With Your Existing Data Plan

With the $10 premium, many jumped off of the fence citing to keep their existing plan. This thread isn't a discussion about how disappointed we are. The EVO is STILL a must have for us.

How much EVO funtionality would be lost by simply using it's WIFI? If you turn your existing phone (keeping your plan) into a WiFi hotspot (WMWifirouter), and purchase the EVO without contract (rumored @ $450), would the purchase be worth it? In other words, use the EVO's WiFi on your existing 'unlimited' data plan. When you're at home, maybe use your home network's WiFi.

The drawbacks that I can easily see are these:

1). Must carry 2 devices.
2). Cannot make phone calls on the EVO (Skype excluded).
3). Slower internet speed than 4G.

Advantages:

1). You get what you wanted: An EVO in your hand.
2). Depending on your existing plan, pay much less than an Everything Data Plan over time.

Could this be viable solution? Any other items that you can think of?
ummm, wouldnt this not work?? first off, WMWifirouter starts ICS while its booting.. no ICS, no WMWIFI... now, that EVO has to be activated on some carrier if you want it to transmit a signal..

i have 2 extra touch pros sitting here.. both still apped up and modded out, just not activated(imagine this is your EVO)... if i turn on WMWifirouter and run it, its Not going to turn an unactivated phone into a wifi hotspot..

when you use WMWifirouter you see 2 processes
Cellular DATA/SPRINT (this is stay saying 'connecting'....)
and
WIFI Network WMWifiRouter

and youll get a continuall pop-up saying "cannot connect" dialed #777 'cannot connect for unknow reason... blah blah blah"

its not gonna work... not using wmwifiRouter for sure anyways..

am i missing something?? you guys know something i dont??

unactivated phone = not being able to use it for wifi...

**you can buy it, use it on your home or anywifi network and still use eveything but sms and phone calls***

***oh wait, the smokes wearing off... or do you mean run WMWifiRouter from my TP2, and run the EVO of that, minus sms and phone calls?? thats do-able*** LOL

pardon my altered state folks
