Two quick things:
1. I probably flash(ed) more than just about anyone. Sometimes 20-30 times a day to test stuff. As long as you pay attention you should be fine. 2. That said, you probably want to take breaks in between flashing. ImCoKeMan fried his board in his phone and he is pretty sure it was because he was flashing in rapid succession.

I flash probably once a week or more. If there is a new release/version/upgrade/cool sh*t I am all over it like white on rice. Gotta stay ahead of the curve!

I flashed mine 10 times while I was writing this post!
Really I just flash it for testing OEM's before I post them or adding new kitchens or tweaks.

i use to flash mines all the time then i found kirvin 3.5 and that was it i havent flashed my phone for like 2 months now..
once i figured that the sprint upgrade wasnt my only choice i flash every rom on ppcgeeks that was available jumping from rom to rom then i figured my addiction was gettin gin the way of my personal life and i checked in to rehab |

I have flashed a couple times until I found kirvins clean and simple, i used that for a couple months until just recently. I found helmis 1.04 kitchen and made my own rom for the first time. That same night I flashed 5 or 6 times until I fell asleep, but I will probably keep this one until next update.

Once you build your first rom via the kitchen you'll understand better why people flash so much. Anyone that can consider themselves a rom builder will have flashed multiple times in a day when tweaking things. Only word of warning i have is i'd recommend waiting ~10 mins between each flash. As colonel referenced i've let the magic smoke out of my phone once, but it was covered under manufacturer warranty. When this happened i was testing my fully customized rom. When it loaded up contacts were there, screen calibration was automatically done, the welcome dialog was bypassed etc. and when one reg change needed to be done i edited the kitchend re-cooked and re-flashed it right away. This made for many flashes in a very short period of time during the development.
My current flashing frequency dropped now that I have a mogul, but that may also change at some point =) PS. if the rom could be flashed 100,000 times flashing even 4 times a day the phone would last over 65 years. Everything can break eventually SD cards too, but who worries about adding and deleting files on them?

But I'm going to wait a bit longer to see if the 1.4 version of the new rom is right... and there are some new OEMs coming out that I want to include as well... Quote:

In my opinion, when it comes to flashing my advice would be to read the back of a can. "Store in a clean cool dry area until use." Hopefully this post, along with the others will help keep someone from frying their Apache. My last thought is that you'd be foolish to try this stuff without some form of handset insurance. But that's just my opinion, take it for what its worth. |
