Lucky for me my ppc fails due to other reasons constantly. I'm on my 7th ppc6700 in just over a year. Trust me. I have seen almost every defect these phones produce.
So I can go flash happy because I guarantee my phone will fail much before my rom. I'm actually on my 3rd phone in 2 weeks! The new re manufactured 6700's are crap. In short.. I flash therefore I am |

The only thing I don't like about my phone is a relatively new issue (for me). The A2DP has "issues"... what I'm still looking for is a way to open the A2DP gateway FROM the phone and close it quickly. The reason being that the connection is only skip free when enabled FROM the phone and and that requires going into the blue tooth settings... sometimes I need to do it two or three times... which means I'm spending upwards of 60 seconds just trying to turn by earphones on. I'd like to not waste more then 10 seconds at most on the exercise. |

Usually flash several times in a few days after a new/major rom kitchen rev, unless I am about to travel or otherwise need stability. Just keep flashing until I get whatever combo of kitchen + my standard OEMs and a few new goodies tossed in stable, then leave it until the next kitchen rev (sometimes, that's just a day or two thanks to helmi_c, chill, colonel, and the other kitchen hackers)
But yeah, I flash it more then I expected to, that's for sure! |

I flash when a new version of the ROM I am running is released.
Been using Saridnours AKU 3.5pr6 since April. He is about to release pr8 so will flash when that is posted. I guess I am one of the non-flash happy users. I found Sar's ROM to be stable and pretty much has all that I need (if that is ever really possible ). I like what he has packaged up in the ROM and it saves me space on the phone for other items (some games that I like, rss reader, etc.).

Seems like I've been flashing about once a week. I have all my data on my memory card and cab's of all the programs that aren't available in the kitchen downlaod stored on the memory card as well. So it's no big deal to flash, load the programs from my memory card and then sync to get my contact/calandar data back.

How often do I flash my ROM? It varies. When there's a new kitchen out I probably do daily or more as I work out the kinks and get my build nice and streamlined. I'll also flash it when a new version of one of my embedded packages comes out (like a new SKTools or Live Search). Stuff that gets updated too frequently (to embed, anyway), like PocketBreeze, I just install in RAM. I have nearly 30MB free after installing all my apps and data, so I can afford to splurge a few hundred K here and there.
But in between kitchen releases and barring updates of stuff in the ROM, I'll go weeks between flashing. The build I have on there now is the first in a while that I would consider "RC-quality", one of the final Apache ROMs I might bother making. There's a couple minor tweaks I'd like to make (like updating PocketCM to .7b), but nothing worth reflashing for. All summer I knew that each ROM I made wasn't the last because I was still waiting for the Office update to edit .docx files. Now that I have that, I'm not sure what else I'm waiting for. Also, keep in mind that the perfect is the enemy of the good. I'll never have the perfect ROM, but my current build based on the 104 kitchen is darn near "good enough." |
