Do you have smartskey in there colonel? To me that is one of the most essential apps there is for these phones. It can be customized but the default behavior is perfect for me.

In case people don't know what it does, it does three things and it does them very well:

1. It allows press and hold the left softkey to bring up the Start menu. This frees up the Windows key to be assigned to something else.

2. Press and hold the right softkey to close the current app (also works on windows with the ok button). Note I did say close. It does not minimize apps like the hardware OK button does--it actually closes them. This frees up the OK button to be assigned to something else, or you can keep it as-is to minimize apps, using press and hold of the right softkey to close them.

3. It changes the behavior of the volume slider in PIE to scroll by page. This allows you to keep the dpad for scrolling by links and use the slider for page up/page down.

It's small and unobtrusive... the best kind of app. I believe the latest version is 0.56 which I have attached.

I will throw it in. For the record though, in the rom I gave you there are apps to do #s 2 and 3. PPc-6700 can enable pad scrolling in IE plus a lot of other hacks. I am sure you are familiar with this. Also, in Settings\System called "Task Manager". If you enable it, it will close programs as well.

Still though, I am more than happy to include Smartkey as I have heard good things about it. One question though, my VC 1.6 maps to the Windows button so, does press and hold still launch the start menu?

I second luv2chill's opinion on smartskey. It is a must have. In addition to what luv2chill mentioned, the application will also remap the DPAD button, so that it allows user to do some action when DPAD is pressed in Phone application of a PDA phone. E.g. open Contacts/Text Messaging/Quick Dial/Call History. Meaning that if you press the joystick up, it will open your contacts and if you press left, it will open your Call History(this is userconfigurable). This makes it really easy to make calls with one hand, in situations where you can't use MSVC.

And colonel, to answer your question....even though VC 1.6 maps to the windows button, you can still call the start button through the left softkey with smartskey installed.

And check the file size...it does so much with a VERY minimal footprint!

Thanks for the latest version...i have been using .52 for the longest because i thought there would not be any future updates. The .56 version fixes a PITA issue that affects Tom Tom (my fav navi app). Now i don't have to sacrifice the dpad funtionality in Tom Tom anymore!

For those who don't know, when you used smartskey in the past, it would change the dpad function in tom tom so that if you try to scan a map, it would adjust the volume. Not the worst thing that could possibly happen, but it was a minor annoyance. This has been reportedly fixed in the latest version.

Edit: Tom Tom issue is NOT fixed, but i can't really afford to lose smartskey so i will continue to deal with the minor annoyance

I have a few Cab suggestions you might want in there.

How about:
DavidGelb_Bbeach_Phonev.1.0_PPC6700.cab
PocketXpdf_0.5.0.CAB

Here is a folder with some freeware:
2nullkb.PP3_CEF.CAB = (so soft keyboard won't pop up)
BatteryStatus.0.04.CAB = (nice battery image with CPU speed )
Batti-1.3.arm.CAB = (simple batery bar top edge of screen)
ClearTemp.cab = (simple prog for IE files only )
psshutxp_eng.xscale.cab = (reset program, nice looking)
VIBRATEPHONEKEYS.cab = (great vibration feedback 4 when your punching a phone number in )
VJLumosII.cab = ( nice brightness boost for screen)
wmpstatusplugincab.cab =(nice wmp Today screen plugin)

Was going to put them in my Extrom anyways

Ok I am back up and running.

Here is how I did it.

1) I reinstalled the complete origional file from the colonel including the SPRINT rom.

2) After it was installed I did a hard reboot on the phone

3) After it was done rebooting I did the ##TRN# and reset the phone.

4) After it was done rebooting I did a hard reboot again and when the sprint software was counting down to install, I reboot the phone again.

5) I then downloaded and installed the Verizon rom files from VZW.COM and upgraded (downgraded) the phone. Then did another hard reboot.

after this was done I could do *228 and program the phone and grab the RBL. However when I tried dialing the phone I would get a voice message that they could not authenticate my phone and to call support.

6) Call support, told them that my phone is acting funny. They punched something in on the computer and told me to reset my phone.

All was working again.

I really want to use this 3.3 rom, so maybe I will try again as it looks like Colonel is getting ready to issue an upgrade today anyways.

Thanks for your help everyone! I do appreciate it!
