In addition, from my experience with HTC Himalaya roms, they first need to be "extracted", hence the need for xdanbftoo and the password, before you can modify them with a hex editor. I was hoping to take a peek inside the ROM to see if it can be modified, similar to the HTC himalaya roms, and hopefully modify the ratio of storage ROM:RAM:Pagefile. Any help in this matter is also appreciated. |

yea I'm working on a custom aku 2.2 now. You can flash the nk.nbf to ur phone with no issues. I am on sprint using an alltel nk.nbf because its 2.2 and sprints is 2.0. I'm a novice and the whole ROM:RAM:Pagefile is beyond me at this point. I used HTC64 tool to convert to a nk.nba then imgfs tools to extract from there. Hope tis helps, and if u could enlighten me on the other that would be great. My custom will hopefully be out by the end of the week.

Where do I find this HTC64 tool? I'm also having a hard time getting my ExtROM unlocked as the APA_ext_rom_unlock tool doesn't seem to work on my device, even though it says "success". Anyways, here's how the customize the ROM size on Himalaya. It is important to note that this has _never_ (to my knowledge) been tried on Apache and I don't have a clue whether or not it'll work, but I have a strong feeling it won't. I suppose it would all depend on how close our device is configured (memory wise) to a Himalaya. Maybe a Wizard/Universal/Hermes mod might be more useful for comparison? Here's a link to the page on Buzzdev.net, the thread is titled "ROM Kitchen Tools" and its under the "Himalaya Wm2005 section." http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?opt...6,27196,page=1 You'll need to scroll down to the part about "Custom Rom Memory Sizes" to see what I'm talking about. |

HTC64.... Damn it, I played with that for many, many hours on Sprint and Verizon roms trying to unlock them. I also wasted much time on xda2nbf trying to find the unlock key on these roms. Then to find out they were the only 2 apache roms that are encrypted. All of the other ones are unlocked.
Mike, what do you use to recreate the nk.nbf? Are you working with the raw image and manually adding files/reg keys? That is good for some things but slow for most. If so, I have a simpler way to add apps and what not, I believe, depending on how you are recreating the nk.nbf. DoctorDex, I am attaching an easy ext-rom unlocker for ya. It is a .zip. Unzip it, copy the cab to your device, install it, then use file explorer, go to Program Files/ExtRom_Tools and run the app in there. Reboot and you will be unlocked and unhidden. |

Well I using HTC64 to convert to and from a nk.nbf. Works like a charm on all the Apache ROMs except for the Verizon one, which can apparently be decrypted too, according to a member who has emailed me with his success. (no clue what hes using to decrypt it, maybe Perl, I havent tried that) I am adding and removing files using Imgfs tools. Add/Del.exe method and modifing the dump folder also.....along with the hive based registry files. If you know a quicker/simpler way feel me in, but the method Im using is simple enough.

Quick noob type question for you, I noticed the ext-rom is stored in a folder "Extended_ROM2". Does this imply that there is another folder titled Extended_Rom1? |
|

DoctorDex,
There is no Ext-Rom1. The Ext-Rom2 is a label that is assigned in the registry. You can rename it. Do a search on it, there are threads that will walk you through renaming it to something more meaningful. -Paul |

Mike,
Your approach works for smaller items, but for bigger things, like .net2 that have large installers, I would use the WM5 dumper. Basically you install everything you want, get your phone all configured just as you like it, then run the WM5 dumper, then imgs_tools/BuildImgfs.exe to create the nk.nbf The WM5 dumper dumps everything into the Dump/Modules folders, ignoring any files that are shadow copies, so if you have a newer .dll or .exe that what is in ROM, it only dumps the newer one. You will then have a ROM that mirrors your last install. Makes adding thing like all of the apps in the extrom, .net2, etc. easy cause you can actually run the installers. Rather than working with a set of files and then testing, you get to test it first on your phone, then create the rom. I even keep the WM5 dumper in my ext-rom so I can run it at any time. You have to dump to a memory card, then copy to your PC. Hope this helps. -Paul |
