The wifi and cellular data are two seperate things. programs can use either to connect.
If you aren't going to have cellular data, make sure that the wifi connections is active. Otherwise when a program connects it defaults to using the cell network. BTW, i am of the belief that anyone using only the wifi should really try the cell data along with opera mini. All my friends stopped worrying about wifi after they got a taste of not having to find a hotspot etc... |

just about everywhere i go has wifi so i really dont need the data plan
infact im actually going to have sprint block all access to the internet using their network on my phone because last time i had their powervision plan i got charged some rediculus amount of money for connecting because my phone kept connecting by itself if it gets to the point where finding a wifi hotspot is nearly impossible then all it takes is a quick call to sprint and they can add the data plan to my phone thanks for the help this site is very quickly becoming my favorite site |

One thing you should know though...I got my 6700 off of Ebay. I already had Verizon service anyway. I was going to do the same thing as you and just use the wi-fi. When I got them to activate the 6700, they automatically change your plan to one with data on it. I don't think that it is the Verizon rep that changes it because it was a friend of mines that works there, but I think once they put it into the system as a 6700, it changes your plan automatically. I had got my next month bill and the price was different cause they changed my plan and did not tell me. But it was an easy fix though. I just told them I did not want data on the phone and they changed it back. Be careful about this!

i'll just make sure that when i activate it to make it clear that i dont want ANY data services and to completely block all internet access from the phone
they usually dont question you and do it instantly or maybe its because im on a business account idk its best to just record the conversation so if additional charges show up you can just play back the conversation to the rep and they will just credit you the additional charges you can also ask for the operator id so if problems occur you can give the rep the id that the other rep gave you and changes should be made without further questioning |

For $15/month (minus discounts), in my business I find the unlimited data plan well worth it. There are ZERO hotspots that work in a moving vehicle or at the end of a runway.
I have never paid a penny more for data.

The data plans work well if you live in an area where actual EVDO is available. (I'm out in Sioux Falls where all the sprint towers here are owned by an affiliate and we're stuck with 1xRTT till they fork out the 10,000,000 on the new system) On the plus side if you have wifi readily available, that's good, then you could probably get by with just using that. (Luckily there's wifi readily available where I live...so I don't have to suffer from 1xRTT.)
