ppc-6700 wifi question

now i know the 6700 has built in wifi and can access the internet through that but my question is will i still need sprints EVDO or data service to access the internet?
i will only be using the internet with wifi when im at a hotspot


i already bought my 6700 off ebay but cant test this for myself until i actually get the phone in my hands (could be another few more days)
