Palmmsgv001??

Hi,

Thank you so much for the great ROM! I had a question. On WM5 all the text messages were stored on a file called palmmsgv001 in the windows folder. That is how I always backed up my text messages when I did a hard reset or install. It seems that in WM6 the case is not the same, and I can't seem to restore my texts. Does anyone know what I can do? Also does any one know of a good program I can use that threads sms? Thanks!! Oh, I have an XV6700.

Gabor

TMB_XV6700 12-06-2007 09:15 PM

gabor,
search for twinky's threader. It behaves exactly the same way you are used to - at least on my phone, and the file is in the same place.
For non-threaded sms, use PIMBackup - you'll find it over on XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705.

gabor 12-06-2007 10:37 PM

The link's in that thread were killed, but I installed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319899 I think it's the same thing. MMS doesn't work right? I'm not able to go back and view any of the previous MMS's I got with the threaded app on the previous WM5 rom.

Youtube

First of all thanks to Helmi for starting the WM6 for all our phones. Second thank you Rob for this Rom is great. The only thing I have problems with is my internet Explorer when I got to youtube it freezes making me soft reset. I don't know if there is a tweak around here I have not found it yet! If anyone knows can you please direct me to the solution to this problem.

gabor,
DotFred's post on PIM Backup had attached files, not links - they're still attached now.
You (or a moderator) will need to remove the link you posted - Mike has been specifically requested not to allow explicit links to Palm threaders on this site, and that's a rule we all follow.
I'm on Verizon and have always used arcsoft, so I never had any threaded MMS's anyway - no help.

Ltran,
1. Be sure to activate your phone on Alltel using the basic Alltel WM5 rom and use it for at least a day or two before upgrading to WM6.
2. Depending on the phone's hardware and history, some people have had problems flashing this rom, but bricking the phone is practically unheard of.
3. As with any "generic" rom, you will need to do any necessary Alltel network customization yourself. There's a dedicated Alltel thread on the Apache forum that you may find useful.

jed 12-13-2007 11:03 AM

I've just installed this version, but I'm having a couple of problems that are going to force me to go back to WM5 if I can't resolve them.

The phone is now very particular about charging. Even when plugging it into the wall, it won't recognize the charger most of the time, and I have to press the power button on the phone several times before it begins to charge. The problem is even worse when connected via usb to my laptop. There, it will only continuously charge when the 'power' button is in the off state. As soon as I turn it back on, it stops charging. This leads into the 2nd problem - I can't use activesync over USB. It doesn't even get recognized. I can, however, use connection sharing over usb. Activesync works fine over Bluetooth. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Splitter 12-13-2007 01:13 PM

I'd reflash.

I had flashed from WM5 (helmi) to this version of WM6, and I can tell you that it is almost flawless. I even have my Rabbi thinking about doing it. :)

jed 12-13-2007 01:18 PM

Nope, I just reflashed after building my own, and I'm having the same exact issues. Everything worked fine on WM5.

Well, I can't think of anything else... I think it's all covered. I hope you enjoy the ROM when your phones comes in though and of course if you have any problems, you know where to go..

This makes no sense. Did you use the kitchen, or Rob's ROM? If you used the kitchen, you're in the wrong thread. If you are referring to having loaded your own .cabs after Rob's ROM, check your device's behaviour before you install your .cabs.

I initially installed Rob's ROM, and that's where the problem first surfaced - hence why the question was posted in this thread. Since then, I've downloaded the new kitchen tools, and cooked my own, and am still having the same problem. I'll post the question in the other thread now that it's clear that the bug is specific to WM6 generally, rather than Rob's ROM in particular.

This ROM is safe for the 6800, correct? I'd like to give it a try on my new baby, but I don't want to f*ck it up or anything...

I cant remember the exact key location but its in HKLM\

You can do a search on this forum and you'll find the key that needs to be removed.

remove HKLM/comm/tcpip/hosts/htc-something-or-other

No. ROMs are specific to the device they were built for (6700 in this case).

Catman51 12-14-2007 06:51 PM

I think this ROM is for the Apache, which would be the 6700.

phguy65 12-14-2007 07:54 PM

good c&s rom

good job Rob, this rom is easy to install and has all the basic tools. The only suggestion I would make is to add some sort of task manager to allow programs to be truly closed when clicking the 'x'. This is a significant resource saver.

I come from China. Now using GENERIC B7,but the "regional setting" not include China.
How..........

I'll have to see if this really works. I have had a lot of people asking about the weather plugin lately and if a reg change fixes it I'll have to cook it into the next build.

I agree, I did eliminate the HTC Task Manager because it caused some problems however I know there are a lot of people out there that like having the "x" button actually do something. In the mean time I recommend pBar, but maybe I'll cook something into the next build.

Really, there isn't? Is there anything close to China? I'm sorry about that, I didn't even realize. I'll see what I can do possibly.

I'm sorry to hear that. I also apologize that me or anyone else couln't help you sooner. Anyway, of course I have a few tips that might help, it's just my 2 cents though so here it is... Obviously hard-reset after flashing any type of ROM, it will only cause problems otherwise. Make sure your server setting are correct. Your post said that you have an XV6700, so the server settings should be "Verizon Wireless"; Port number "80"; Server address: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms; Connect via "The Internet"; and make sure your sending size limitation is greater than what you expect. Also, sometimes MMS messages get stuck in the Inbox/Outbox. Try manually navigating to the offending folder and see if the message is pending there. If so, hold down on it and choose "send message" or "download message" according to what you need to do at that point.
Other than that I'm not to familiar with ArcSoft MMS but if anyone else has anything to add please share!

envyv07 12-16-2007 02:44 AM

Ok, back!

I found out what was causing the problem. The ArcSoft MMS, which I installed from the "Extended ROM." I have to go without it to use picture/video messaging. Any ideas?

Also, what is the "HTC getMMSCtxMenuInfo" .cab file, anything important?

Hellion 12-16-2007 08:02 PM

Just tested out the weather "bug" on two fresh installs on two 6700's (1 red / 1 yellow) and had to do the delete that registry entry to get the weather to work! Everything else seems to work smooth. Just gotta try do some bluetooth file transfer later on... will report back!

Great ROM!!!!!

lrosenman 12-17-2007 10:18 AM

Yes, this fix:

fixes the weather in the HTC Home plug-in.

(If I read it right, it's a hosts entry that you need to delete).

Thanks again for a great ROM.

New ROM

Well, I just cooked a completely stock WM6 ROM for Apache. Only extra things included are MMS (for selected carriers), Adobe Reader Lite, Java Midlet Manager, and some very small tweaks of my own aside from what the kitchen offers.
Couldn't pay my high-speed internet bill this month so I'm stuck with my Apache for a modem. So let me know if anybody is interested, I don't want to waste my time at a hotspot or using my Apache to upload it if nobody is going to use it, so let me know.
Also, I really like this ROM, I set the pagepool to 4mb which has worked great for me so far. Without all the EXTRA programs and a little more program memory my device seems to be a lot faster and more stable. The added plus of having a complete stock ROM is also the ability to easily add whatever version of whatever program(s) you prefer that would otherwise be "cooked" into the OS. For example a lot of people were having problems with the HTC Home Plugin and HTC Home Customizer. Well, now you can just install your own version, and personally... I think it works out a lot better that way. I have never been a big fan of really anything besides OEM software cooked into my ROMs, that's just me though...

Hii Rob,

I am in Canada with Telus as my provider and I was wondering what problems I will come across flashing the ROM to the generic you have for the PPC-6700?

Well, you will come across no problems as far as I am aware of. Of course you will have to install MMS if you use it, and set up your data conenction manually, but that's about it.
A .cab file for MMS should be on your device in the extended ROM, just install it after you flash to the generic WM6. Setting up your data connection is as simple as creating a new network connection and having it dial the number designated by your carrier to access the data network.
Also, back up all of your information before you flash any sort of ROM to your device. Everything will be erased and will need to be restored after upgrading.
Well, I hope this helps. You can also always go back to your carrier stock ROM if things don't work out. Send me a PM or post here if you need any more help.

tuckerdog 12-17-2007 11:01 PM

I must sound silly, but what is MMS? and how can I find it in my extended rom?
