wow -- another ROM to test for Christmas -- that's awesome -- i am definitely interested! i must inquire, where can i find the HTC Home plugin and customizer -- the FTP site is hard to navigate these days . . .

also -- what does the pagepool size do?

what does your memory turn out to be after a fresh install? (storage and program)
and also what do you install typically on top of that -- (like HTC stuff)
can we get a list of what's included on ver. 8? verizon specific is one of the choices, i assume?

sorry for all the questions -- pretty excited as you can tell

Hellion 12-18-2007 03:24 AM

Anyone got MMS to work using this ROM? I've tried installing a few different cabs for MMS, but when I click on send to picture to mobile number, it takes me to the text msg inbox........ any ideas. Thanx in advance.

Ltran 12-18-2007 07:35 AM

That's a clear sign you don't need to worry about it, because you're obviously not using it! :-) You'll have to unhide your extended rom partition (maybe Rob has it unlocked in his ROM - wouldn't know, I use the kitchen) and use file explorer to browse for the .cab file.

MMS - MultiMedia Messaging Service - send a text message w/ multimedia content attached.

You can find HTC home plugin on xda-developers in .cab form.

Pagepool size determines the size of the pagepool :-)
pagepool is a cache for executable program. The more software you tend to run, the larger you want your pagepool. The downside is that it takes away from program space. You'll know when you don't have enough pagepool - you get all kinds of flaky errors/problems that a reset seems to cure, temporarily.

I think Rob said that Ver 8 was truly going to be Clean & Simple - minimum extra crap. Just the basics of WM6 + a few tweaks and obligatory add-ons. If you habitually/want to install a bunch of stuff on your phone beyond basic WM6, you should consider using the kitchen instead of a C&S rom. C&S Roms are supposed to optimize stability by sacrificing features - if you're adding features, your defeating the whole point of C&S.

tuckerdog 12-18-2007 11:09 AM

I am also getting the error on restart SDDAEMON.EXE unable to load. Also, I cannot start my contacts. In my programs, I have Contacts and Contacts (1). Same for Calendar. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yotoad 12-18-2007 11:29 AM

i agree about using the kitchen, however Rob's registry tweaks and settings are built-in, and i don't have a lot of experience with creating those --

for instance, kirvin's C&S+ kitchen (before it was taken off) had the start menu and registry settings preset to where i like them, so using the kitchen was great

Kirvin's Helmi kitchen is like the stoneage, compared to the current kitchen.

I don't have a clue what settings Rob has changed, but there are a number of point-and-click apps for tweaks and personal customizations. There are both kitchen and ROM versions.

If you asked nicely, you might be able to get Rob to make an OEM for his tweaks.

About the only thing I think is a big difference from the kitchen is Rob's changed directory structure. I'm not sure if he's repeating that in R8, but it really has no business in a C&S ROM anyway - you can't get much further away from C&S than non-standard directory structures.

Exactly, this is really going to be the bare minimum in R8, which is actually a good thing... for the C&S fans of course. But like gguruusa said, if you want a bunch of stuff beyond the WM6 basics pre-loaded on your device then go ahead and use the kitchen.

Hellion 12-18-2007 06:32 PM

After reading Rob's last post (above mines), what would be a good MMS .cab to use since I only want to add that function. Thanks in advance. I've been trying all sorts of MMS cabs I've found on this and other forums, and just can't nail it.

DerekV 12-18-2007 06:38 PM

Im wondering if someone could help me out. I installed this rom and everything works great, but i do have one problem. When i try to use IE i get Error Code 37, cannot setup mobile IP or something along those lines. Internet still works just get that funky error everytime it tries to connect to data. Im using alltel with the generic version BTW

DerekV 12-18-2007 07:25 PM

Any one else not see my post?

TMB_XV6700 12-18-2007 09:23 PM

Derek,
Error Code 37 is fairly well documented - more on HowardForums.com and pdaphonehome.com than here, and it's got nothing to do with Rob's rom. It's essentially the Apache's version of "the EVDO network just dumped me" and seems to be associated with authorization failures when moving in and out of EVDO cells. I would think it has something to do with your Alltel provisioning. There's a strictly-Alltel users thread in the Apache forum you might try.

If *86 doesn't get to your voice mail, you can edit it in start/setting/personal/Phone

strickly_ppc670 12-18-2007 11:25 PM

TMB_XV6700 ,

good call! Thanks- that was driving me nuts!
Funny thing is my # was in there and I retyped

Thanks again, I'll be watching for more upgrades.

BeyondInvisible 12-19-2007 01:02 PM

Hellion 12-19-2007 02:08 PM

Rob where can i find this new no junk ROM to try out?

strickly_ppc670 12-19-2007 02:14 PM

Im back with the same problem- Voicemail.
Let me explain. Its with the Today plug in
( Messages/Missed call)
When you press it, it calls *86- not voicemail.
I know how to call my VMail- This is just a minor
issue that bugs me..

Any help is much appreciated
Thanks in advance

kyle9013 12-19-2007 04:13 PM

omgosh that clean version is amazing.
Terrific job!!!

Is there away to get additional Themes
how you could select in the build Os with Helmi's?

gguruusa 12-19-2007 06:19 PM

You can just copy the theme of your choice to /windows. I think copying to root of any device also works.

Hi Rob,
Thank you for all your work on this, I am getting so much more out of my phone.

I have two problems I was hoping you could help me with. I know that to fix the weather app you have to delete a registry key. I have installed PHM registry editor (ran it on my desktop and then ran Activesync and it did not install to my phone). Can you point me in the right direction?

My second problem is a bit more difficult. I bought a Plantronics Voyager 855 stereo BT headset. After pairing on first use everything works fine. However, on the second use (after powering the headset off and back on) the music audio drops out (except for the occasional ~1 second blip of music). The phone audio and controls continue to work, even the pause function for the music continues to work. I have tried Windows Media and Audio Manager. Audio2BT does not help either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an XV6700 and ROM version 3.60.70 WWE.

Thank you!

RHMJR 12-19-2007 09:20 PM

Would be interested in trying out this ROM, where can I download?

Have tried a few varieties of WM6 ROM pre-cooked and using kitchen and keep encountering very little program memory available on my XV6700 when all's said and done. Under WM5 Program Memory ran in the high 50% used range, under WM6 I'm running high 60's, with frequent spikes to 70+% used. System seems fine overall, but would rather have more program memory availalbe.

gguruusa 12-19-2007 10:15 PM

I don't know what apps you are running, but ROM selection has only a minor relationship to program memory. WM6 is bigger and a little more hungry than WM5, that's why you see the jump there. Your best bet is a program close application, frequent use of end task, or memory reclaiming apps.

RHMJR 12-20-2007 03:41 AM

Thanks gguruusa.

You answered what I think was really my question (although not articulated well). I'm using Magic Button to close apps and Oxios Hibernate to free memory. I've used and really like Agenda Fusion as alternate PIM management for a couple of years, but may have to check out Agendus or Pocket Informant to see if they require less resources. I really see a jump in the use of Program Memory when AF is open, but for obvious reasons I need/like to keep it running.

Anyone know if Agendus or PI use less Program Memory?

Thanks.

When I try to upgrade using the Verizon version on my Verizon XV6700 I get a ERROR 150: ROM Utility Error ( not designed for your phone). Any suggestions ? I am using a Verizon XV 6700 with the 1.04 bootloader and 3.14.30 ROM version. I get a similar error code trying to use Helm's Kitchem program also. Thanks in advance

TMB_XV6700 12-20-2007 01:41 PM

lostboy,
With your bootloader, you need to use the "x.04+" RUU option in the kitchen - select it in one of the boxes at the top of the Build_OS window.
The version of Rob's rom that you are using does not include the proper new-bootloader RUU for your phone - in fact, I don't think there is one. If you really wanted this rom you would just have to flash it using the correct RUU folder in the kitchen.

akennedy1984 12-20-2007 02:42 PM

Please excuse my ignorance....I have 1.04 bootloader....what do I need to have to use this rom?

A lot of patience and good reading comprehension. Consider it penance for foolishly loading Verizon's last update without checking here first (just kidding).
To my knowledge, no one has loaded this rom to a "New-bootloader" phone without some manipulation - even then it's not always clean.

akennedy1984 12-21-2007 08:24 AM

so the can anyone tell me which WM6 rom can be successfully installed?

ak,
Rob's rom is lonely (as the only pre-cooked WM6 rom for Apaches) for a reason, the kitchen is easy to use.
Use the kitchen with the "x.04+" RUU option selected at the top and you should be fine. Go here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11074

akennedy1984 12-21-2007 09:08 AM

alright then...thanks for the info...im dl the kitchen now...hopefully i dont brick my phone!!

Try that out, should work with no problems! Gotta use a registry editor. I used Resco's with no problems.

zentor 12-24-2007 01:51 PM

I also used rob's sprint upgrade and I was able to fix the weather by removing the registery, but I have noticed that the data connection doesnt disconnect itself when idle. This seems to cause a problem if the data connection is not used for some period of time. For example if I let the phone sit for a couple hours then try to use pocket IE or another application that uses the internet I do not see the dial box I would normally see. Instead I get an error message saying it could not connect. The only way I have found to fix this is to turn off the phone in the connection manager and turn it back on. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to turn back on the idle disconnect?

Thanks,

Zen
