1) Is there a way to return my PPC 6700 to the state Sprint/Nextel delivered this phone to me?

Currently my "Device Information" is:

ROM version: 2.06.00 WWE
ROM date: 02/22/06
Radio version: 1.27.00
Protocol version: SNAZ-40306
ExtROM version: 2.05.303 WWE
PRI version: 1.19_003
Browser version MSIE 4.01

CPU: Intel(R) PXA2700
Speed: 416MHZ
RAM size: 64 MB
Flash size: 128 MB
Flash chip type: M-Systems
Model No.: PA10A1
Platform: PocketPC
Data bus: 32 bits
Storage size: 39.59 MB

2) Sprint recently applied the most recent patch to my phone a couple of weeks ago. Will running APA_SPCS_20_600_303_1270_0_WWE_Ship return my device back to Sprint's latest update?

3) After I apply APAC_WM6_R0_Sprint or Helmi_APAC_OFFICIAL_AKU3.5_Kitchen_1.0.4 can I "backout" of the changes? Will either or both of these patches overwrite the current \Extended_ROM\ if I haven't previously unlocked it?

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to clear this up in my mind, especially if that person happens to live in Larryville, Kansas and loves to chill...
LOL, anything for another Lawrencian. You post on the ljworld? I know I've seen your nick around somewhere.

Your understanding is pretty much correct. Flashing this WM6 ROM will not touch your extended ROM... so after you flash and perform the welcome wizard stuff (screen calibration, time zone, etc.) you should be ready to soft reset when you see the "Customize your device in 3 seconds" screen. You can then proceed to unlock your extrom and delete everything out of there if you want. There's no harm in doing so and that will prevent it from trying to install that old stuff again.

And yes if you ever want the phone's ROMs (all three of them) restored to the Sprint-provided versions then you just download the appropriate ROM package from utstarcom's web site (the one you mentioned is the latest Sprint one--which sadly is extremely old and slow).

Vista

To the ones asking how to install on Vista:
There doesn't seem to be anything special about it. Just put it in bootloader mode and run the flash. No special tricks. I put this on mine with Vista Ultimate x32 on a laptop.

Loading ROM in Vista

In an earlier posting, someone running Vista said that you have to "right-click" on the EXE file and choose "Run as Administrator". This will allow full access and should load without any issues. FWIW.

Yeah I've seen a "Sigmund" on the LJWorld as well, and he's BRILLIANT!

Seriously, thanks to brightedge, luv2chill, and of course to that demi-god Helmi for sharing their expertise and knowledge. I shall be reactivating a paypall account just so I can send a couple of bucks so he can buy a Jayhawk(TM) Action Figure with 'poseable' wings!

Now that I have a warm and fuzzy feeling that I may know what I am doing, I'm going to give it a try (after a couple shots of espresso and gawking coeds at a downtown coffee shop). I'll post again when I have some feedback.

Well I guess all that preparation was worth it, I had not a single problem although I haven't played around very much yet. I did confirmed basic functionality of the phone (incoming and outgoing) , browser, EVDO, and orientation switching.

I noticed a couple of people claiming that several "hard resets" cleared up a wide variety of problems, so I did six hard resets in a row figuring it might not help but it couldn't (or at least shouldn't) hurt either. Each time I interrupted the process before the "3 second" timeout. I did notice that every time I saw WM6 it caused me to giggle like a little girl. Although I do blame Helmi for these embarrassing outbursts, to be fair there probably is not a lot than can be done about it at this point in time.

As a point of comparison my "Device Information" was:

ROM version: 2.06.00 WWE
ROM date: 02/22/06
Radio version: 1.27.00
Protocol version: SNAZ-40306
ExtROM version: 2.05.303 WWE
PRI version: 1.19_003
Browser version MSIE 4.01

CPU: Intel(R) PXA2700
Speed: 416MHZ
RAM size: 64 MB
Flash size: 128 MB
Flash chip type: M-Systems
Model No.: PA10A1
Platform: PocketPC
Data bus: 32 bits
Storage size: 39.59 MB

Here is my "Device Information" after flashing:

ROM version: 3.50.00 WWE
ROM date: 04/25/07
Radio Version: 1.27.00
Protocol version: SNAZ-40306
ExtROM version: <blank>
Hardware version: 0041
PRL version: 20229
PRI version: 1.19_003
Browser version: MSIE 6.0

CPU: Intel(R) PXA270
Speed: 416 MHz
RAM Size: 64MB
Flash Size: 128 MB
Flash chip type: M-Systems
Data bus: 32 bits
Storage size: 39.59

Model No.: PA10A1
Platform: PocketPC

My new WM6.0 "System Information" shows:

Windows Mobile 6.0 (WinCE 5.02)
PA10A1

Program Memory - 40% 50.2MB/20.14MB
Storage Memory - 8% 39.6MB/3.2MB
Extended_ROM2 - 98% 9.9MB/9.77MB
Storage Card - 6% 968.3MB/58.19MB

I am not familiar with "Extended_ROM2" but I suspect this is where all the new stuff went. I also suspect that \Extended_ROM\ is still there although I normally access that with Total Commander/CE 2.0 (Pocket PC ARM/XSCALE) which I haven't installed yet. And when I set up "Weather" it listed me as "Lawrence, US" and I would have prefered "The Peoples Republic of Lawrence, KS" More later as I begin to resync with my laptop, text message, and amaze my fellow cow orkers.

Again - I have a Verizon 6700. I understand the first part of this (resetting prior to the customization), but can you explain further the "unlock your extrom" statement.

1. What does this mean?
2. How do you do it?
3. What does it win me?

Thanks,
-PH

The ExtRom is the partition that has the cabs to install the carrier customizations. Helmi's WM6 rom has all the customizations already built-in, so you can use the unlock tool to unlock the ExtRom & delete all the cabs in there. Then you can use that space (around 10mb) for storage or to install more programs.
