Re: Apache WM6.1 Kitchen CE OS 5.2.19716 (Build 19716.1.0.0) - UPDATED 20080308
I downloaded and used APAC_WM6_R0_Sprint for a long time and my device broke and I put it back on my phone, but know I see there is this new version and I do not understand how to install it. I tried looking through everything, but nothing helped. The last version I just downloaded and walked through it so this is all very new to me. Can someone give me a very dumb down step by step walkthrough of everything because I'm completely oblivious idk what the buildOS is or the Updater etc.

For those trying to install the Vogue Camera I downloaded the .cab installer and installed it on my Apache but couldn't get it to work; the phone locked up whenever I tried to run it. So it not working in the kitchen ain't that much of a loss.

Sunday, 23 March 2008 00:33 The latest installer can always be downloaded at http://ppckitchen.org/downloads/buildos.msi. 1) Download and run the installer. 2) Install to the default location. 3) After installation you should run the Updater found at Start->Programs->PPCKitchen->Updater. 4) Install all updates related to BuildOS and your device. This step is important because the BuildOS installer does not contain a kitchen for any devices. They are all obtained through the Updater. 5) Now you're ready to run BuildOS. Start->Programs->PPCKitchen->BuildOS. 6) You will be greeted with a login screen. If you have a PPCGeeks username, enter it with a new password. If you don't have a PPCGeeks username, enter the name you usually use for chat or email with a new password. 7) Next you will see a dialog box asking you for a project file. Choose the one for your device. ![]() 9) When you're done selecting the items you'd like in your ROM, press the play button and wait for the build to complete. 10) Now follow the onscreen instructions to flash the ROM to your device. Re: Apache WM6.1 Kitchen CE OS 5.2.19716 (Build 19716.1.0.0) - UPDATED 20080308
Did my first real update to my Apache yesterday thanks to all the great info and everyone this board for that. I need some help and I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere. After I successfully installed the rom, I noticed that when I tried to run some applications, I got the error: "xxx is not a valid Pocket PC application." This happened with MS LiveSearch and Dashwire. Slingbox, mobile AIM, GoogleMaps ran fine. That was all I tried yesterday.
I built a new rom today with a lot less in it. Now that I've got it installed, when I try to run Dashwire (thats the one I really want to get to work) and even s2us, I get "The file xxx cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file." I have tried reinstalling with the same results. Any idea whats wrong or what I can do to correct this? This is on a Sprint Apache running Bootloader 1.0. Thanks!!! |

Those are all typically from not having .netCF installed. Where did your ROM come from? The WM6.1 kitchen includes .NetCF by default.

I just checked both it and .netCF exception messages and built and installed the ROM again. Now I am back to "xxx is not a valid Pocket PC application." with both Dashwire and Mobile Calculator. Is there anything else that needs to be in that ROM besides base OS of course? I checked most things off. Thanks!!! |

Re: Apache WM6.1 Kitchen CE OS 5.2.19716 (Build 19716.1.0.0) - UPDATED 20080308
Ok first off, thanks to Helmi C, the guys from PPCKitchen.org, Wideawake, and all the regulars around here for the kitchen and this site and it's continuing support of PPC Hacking.
Maybe I am dense/blind, but I don't see any threads that go into what people are and are not including in their personal ROMs. I have now built and uploaded three ROMs (time consuming) deleting and adding items each time based on what I find when I actually upload and try out the ROM. There has to be a better way, are we allowed to share our projects selection .txt files? If so, how come no one I have seen is doing it, for instance I would love to see luv2chill, or Colonel's default selection.txt file. Seems to me that we could dramatically simplify this process for newbies by simply doing standard project selection.txt files based on combinations of files that work well together. Maybe something like this: WM Build 6.1 XXXXX Light Standard for bootloader 2.02(Includes the basic files dialer, theme, task manager, etc. Please download and paste this file into your projects folder> WM Build 6.1 XXXXX Medium Standard for bootloader 2.02(Includes the basic files dialer, theme, task manager, Includes xyz programs etc. Please download and paste this file into your projects folder> WM Build 6.1 XXXXX Heavy Build for bootloader 2.02(Includes the advanced files dialer, theme, task manager, Includes Programs XYZAB&C etc. Please download and paste this file into your projects folder> And then maybe a thread where users share their own custom Selection.txt files with a a bit of narrative of why they went with that config? Anyway thanks for listening. Thanks, Omni
