Re: Why does everyone hate the iphone?

no one said they "hated" it, people just brought up some of it's flaws to show that it may not be as good as some other devices.

Re: Why does everyone hate the iphone?

Why do you guys make a big deal with phones. Just get whatever you like, its a free country. I had a TP2, got sick and tired of the constant ROM updates, now I got a Nexus One. T-Mobile 3G sucks, so I'm going to send it back and get the iPhone 3Gs because I know ATT in my area is very good. I love my Nexus but I need service. I used to have a iPhone 3g 2 years ago and it was a great phone.

See, I buy whatever makes me happy, I don't give a damn about loyalty to any company and thats how it should be. The only thing I'm loyal too is myself, not Apple, Google or Microsoft.

Yes is true that you have to pay for apps but so far i had no crash , no hard resets and only thing i can complaint about is battery life but only because i play games all day . the pro 2 was a great phone maybe if i had it stock , but the iphone is a beast .
how is you putting a rom on the phone, winmo's fault?

i have done very little with my phone and it works great. i think you tried to do more than your tech level.
only thing i did with my phone was gfl's sprint clean up. sprite back up 1x a week. did have mobile shell, now using tf3d. don't turn my phone off for days at a time and can't remember the last time it froze on me.
only time it had to be hard reset was using old free version of wifirouter that would change my internet settings (apparently). but with the back up, that was fixed in 4 button pushes on my phone.

p.s. my daughter's ipod touch had to be hard reset twice on x-mas day (apple gave me free money for apps for that).

I don't hate the iPhone. I used a 2g iPhone, and a 3g iPhone. Never made it to the 3gs. I had an ATT Tilt before I got my 2g iPhone, and subsequently returned the 2g iPhone because I liked my Tilt better. I was working for a company that had me traveling everywhere in the US. I mean everywhere literally. I used Excel Mobile on a daily basis. I got the iPhone and ended up having to boot my PC every time I needed to find my next location.

There we're 3 reasons I went with the iPhone 3g. Maps, I personally think the iPhone google maps app that comes natively on the phone is amazing; Porn, there is no phone that is easier to get porn on then the iPhone; and because I thought I was cool because I had an iPhone.

You see that last reason? That is why a lot of people hate the iPhone. A lot of people are blindly Apple fans, and just buy the iPhone because they have to fit in to that cookie cutter mold Apple hands out with its products. The main problem is people don't know how to find a phone that fits their needs. Most people wont ever use half of the shit on an iPhone. They especially wouldn't use half the features on a Windows Phone. But the most accurate answer to your question is this; most people don't hate the iPhone, they hate all of the pretentious douche bags that go out of their way to tell everyone they have an iPhone. The same douche bags that go out of their way to show you the newest most useless app they could find. All while throwing hundreds of dollars a month at the app store. And much like the user, the iPhone sits there and says "oh yes, I'm trying to be something I'm not. I'm a feature phone, but people mistake me for a smart phone; they even mistake me for a PocketPC. That means I'm better than you because im over hyped and loved for all the wrong reasons, but i don't care, I'm just a big attention ***** anyway." That's why people hate the iPhone.

I use an HTC Touch Pro 2 now. I love the device, I think it suits me better than an iPhone ever could. And its not smug about its existence.
try keezmovies or redtube on skyfire through your tp2.
not that i have looked at porn, just a little birdie told me....

Re: Why does everyone hate the iphone?

I was never much of an apple fan. They have the aesthetics and intuitiveness down but coming from PCs and Winmo with a love to tinker there wasn't any long term appeal. This christmas I received an ipod touch and now I can't put this thing down. The first thing I did of course was jailbreak and scour the web for random apps. Since I've had it, I've been constantly finding new impressive apps and things to do with it. I've found winmo replacements for just about everything and I usuallyend up preferring them. There are times I do wish it had certain features and functions in the system or apps but usually it's nothing I couldn't live without. And the games are in a class of their own. Nothing comes close right now.

One major downside however is Apple themselves. Updates break jailbreaks. Without a jailbreak half my apps (the ones I use the most) and functionality would disappear. A stock idevice is just too limited for me personally. The 3rd party community exists and is strong, however it doesn't come close to XDA/ppcgeeks in terms of dedication and cohesiveness. Would I get an iphone? I might consider the next gen one. But a lot of what makes the iphone appealing seems to be threatened with android surging and wm7 in the horizon, especially with the hardware making a huge leap. I guess if anything, we have apple to at least partially thank for that. They really forced everyone to up their game.

Re: Why does everyone hate the iphone?

For me it isn't a hate thing. It's more a matter of what's practical and does what I need it to. Everyone chooses their phone either for eye appeal , carrier desires, or hardware needs. For me it was mostly hardware reasons and carrier choice.

For me I don't like Apples controlling and restrictive app store. I believe that the openness of the Android market is a much better approach and I like the more matured and well developed applications for WinMo. I also turned away from Palm because their original OS is being phased out and the Web OS is too new and it and the software needs further development. Same concerns for Android though I really like the OS.

The hardware is another problem with the iphone for me. I needed the larger screen so these old eyes could read a web page and the iphone's screen is just too small for me. I also required a keyboard which the iphone can't offer.

I own 4 Touch Pro2's (I provide phones for my family) and each one is set up totally different from the others. My wife has left hers mostly stock with only minor tweaks, both of my parents run SPB MobileShell with totally different settings and I've got my phone so tweaked you can't recognize it from when I first got it and I still haven't even started on the custom roms. Each of our phones is uniquely ours. You just can't do that kind of stuff with the iphone even if it's jailbreaked.

I left ATT after 12 long and miserable years. They nickle and dime you out of every cent they can. They even go so far as to block Pandora and charge you 3 times as much for the privileged of using a web site that should be free. Sprints unlimited family plan was the final straw for me. Way more service for a lot less money. I've got twice the minutes and all the data I can eat for roughly what I was paying ATT for 1/2 the voice alone and no data, not even texting. I switched as soon as I could.

In a nutshell:
No selection of devices. WinMo and Android gives me many device choices.

More open software with WinMo and Android.

I don't have to stay with ATT. I pay much less with Sprint and have better data coverage. (They all have decent voice coverage)

I multitask way too much. Can't give that up.

Each one of my 4 phones is customized or not to each users desires. All without having to hack the phone.

larger screen.

Slide out keyboard.

Spare battery. A must for me and my wife kills a battery often enough as well. (too much web surfing)

If you like a small screen phone, don't need a hard keyboard and like the way the UI looks right out of the box and don't think you'll ever need a spare battery then the iphone might be the choice for you. For me, it and the new Palms just couldn't offer what I needed in a phone. For now, it's the Touch Pro2. My next device will most likely be a Android phone as it matures.

Apple will have to expand their hardware choices, get a little more friendly in the app store and be available on more carriers before I can give the iphone a more serious look.

Re: Why does everyone hate the iphone?

Thing about iPhone that makes it terrible is the "mentality" of a locked down platform...that and people confusing everything touchscreen for an iphone

It was always thought that with each generation is advanced in knowledge..I remember people saying how even 5 year olds know computers well..this shows education..but the cycle reversed and they make things so locked down that anyone can use it.

While this mentality sells it is a step backwards as a society. I'm not exactly saying things should be hard but there should be freedom and control and not restraints.

Also not to mention Apple playing parent on what is "Acceptable" and what isn't "Acceptable"
