you have to disable all antivirus software. which do you have installed?

AVG and the Windows Firewall is turned on........but early I turned those off. Every time I double-click the unlcoker .exe, I get a message saying that it cannot open file or have permission........I own the computer so not sure why I can't run the file.

how did you turn off avg?

opened the program and hit exit, it first asked if I was sure to turn off all monitoring and I clicked ok.

that is not how you disable AVG. you have to open the program and double click on the resident shield and disable that. there are posts in this thread that explain how to do that with greater detail.

I got the same error when I first tried to unlock my TP2 yesterday. What I did after was reconnect the USB cable and the activesync stuff pops up. Then it says something about synchronizing files and such, I clicked next and just let it synchro everything it wanted to. Then I ran HardSPL again and it worked. I was just going to say that I don't know if just being activesync'd is enough. You might have to synchronize files and such. Doing so made activesync have a red icon instead of green and it says "synchronizing..." I don't know if that's the case but that's what worked for me. Hope this helps you get your unlock on.
