It takes a T6 torx bit to remove the screws behind the battery cover, then you can pry the keyboard up out of the case. If I feel motivated enough I may take pics later to make it clearer. I know there's a post around page 3 somewhere that has a pic too.

i think this is the main issue. the cable that comes lose. someone else post about this. and this is also a topic with stock TPs

im starting to think this problem has nothing to do with custom ROMs

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

Yea, for people who seem to have the issue ongoing without any resolution, it's probably a loose wire.

My keyboard has been doing fine since the one time it stopped working and after a soft reset worked fine.

TheDoctor1971, when you opened it, did you see anything that might cause any technician looking at your device to know you've ever opened it? Like stickers that had to be broken to open the device or anything of that sort?

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

There's a tiny black sticker over one of the screws but since its exposed to the elements it could have easily rubbed off at anytime so I doubt they'd consider that proof.

Either way, I was gonna get tired of sending the phone back to sprint each time. I suppose you could always say you took it to a sprint store and they removed the cover to look at it.

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

I am pretty sure I am having the exact same issue (loose wire) because my keyboard was working pretty crappily for a while, then I soft reset and it was fine and then it just up and stopped working. I've literally only had the phone a month and still have the stock (Sprint) rom.

I really like the phone, and don't want to get a new one if I can fix the problem myself, but I agree with Inflewence. if someone could post some more pics, or if TheLastPoet could clarify what exactly his pic means, it would be much appreciated!

its an easy fix...you just need the proper screwdriver...u may be able to get away with using a very small flathead...like the kind used to fix eye glasses...

you just unscrew the screws under the battery cover (theres 4) use your thumbnail to go around the edges pop the back off...slid the keyboard up and you'll see your cable right in the middle unattached...

ive fixed 4 "non working" keyboards this way

i think its just poor work putting it together

there still may be a software issue...but i would try this fix first

if anyone needs diagrams i think i have one saved in an email...let me know and ill post them

yeah this is my second pro, and you gave great instructions...lol too bad my replacement is comeing already, i figured since my old one was gonna get sent in anyways i would test out your instructions, pretty cool man, the screws are a mutha**** jjust like the xbox screws only extremely small!! wow poor physical components, i am impressed with the phone but upset about this unforgivable flaw.

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

I took the plunge and preformed surgery on my soon to be replace touch pro, it was easy with THELASTPOET's instructions and he posted a picture earlier in this thread, that really helped. it's pretty easy but if you are a smash and dash type of person don't do it because you will really rip the cable or break the phone, take your time and be careful.

once you in pull up the pic provided by THELASTPOET on page 3 post #29 of this thread you can pretty much figure out the rest, just a simple reseat of the connection. (just pull it out and push it back in) get your minds out of the gutter while your at it......now put it all back together and start it up. this should fix your pro. if not try it again and when all else fails, slap the closet idiot next to you and blame them....=D> be sure to thank THELASTPOET for the picture and the instructions they can be found at XDA also.
