Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

My keyboard was giving me trouble too. I tried the instructions but didnt have any luck with plugging in my keyboard. I reflashed, relocked my phone and took to the sprint store. They confirmed it was a hardware defective keyboard and said they have had some issues with these in the last few months going bad so they keep a good stock of keyboards for tp's. confirmed, nothing to do with custom roms.

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

I have had my TP since Sept 2008 and have flashed alot of rom's on it and have never had a problem with my keyboard. Must be the TP's coming out of a certain run that have this hardware issue.

Yea, I had defective WiFi in my first Touch Pro which was never flashed to a custom ROM. I think we're sometimes jumping the gun a bit too quickly to blame custom ROMs for any problem that comes up. When good custom ROMs make the device better not worse. And regardless what ROM is used, hardware issues can occur.

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

I randomly had the same issue this morning. Soft reset and working again. How many of you guys have insurance with sprint (if something happens to the phone)? I got my TP about a month after release with sprint but I never invested in the insurance plan (starting to second guess myself now). If you dont have a insurance and have this sorta problem, if you take it to sprint are you pretty much SOL? Have any of you had results getting a replacement from sprint without having insurance this far out of the return/exchange period? I heard at one point you could get insurance at ANY time. Is that true? Would you suggest doing so? Thanks.

All that is answered in this thread.

Basically, if you go to Sprint without insurance they'll want to charge a service fee, even if they do the warranty exchange with HTC for you. If you don't have insurance and send the device to HTC directly, it may take some weeks, but if they can verify the problem they'll give you a replacement or fix it. The HTC warranty is good for 1 year from the original date of purchase and hardware defects like a broken keyboard are covered. So long as you don't send them a device that has a custom ROM on it, of course.

I can confirm this. I have been having this issue for a week now and i grabbed a keyboard off of a good TP and replaced it on mine and the issue is completely resolved. Reseating the ribbon didn't do anything for me, a whole new keyboard is needed. I only wonder how long the new one will last. I hope this doesn't become a big issue. I will look and keep track of build dates on these devices coming back and see when and where this bleeding stops. This has been the biggest issue I have seen in this device. Other than the keyboard, not many issues other than that.

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

My Keyboard started acting up a couple of days ago, like the others posted in this thread...I took mine in today to the Sprint store, and they gave me a new TP!!!!

fyi, I've had my TP since shortly after they came out, so I wasn't expecting a new one, but, voila!

The tech there said that they've had a lot of these come back for the same reason, so I'm wondering if they're trying to get rid of the old stock, in case it has to do with something other than just the keyboard itself.

Good luck!

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

Had mine stock when my keyboard died. I didn't have one extra file on it because I saw these threads lol. I opened it plugged stuff back in and it started working. It stopped a few days ago and now wont start again even after opening it and checking the connections. Today I was like f it I'm going to just put as much stuff on it as I can just to see what I like for when I get a new one. I flashed it like 3 times today, in the back of my mind I was hoping it would help the keyboard with no luck.
