Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

wow that's really weird, I just flashed 4.14 the other day and with the first bootup I had a problem with the keyboard responding. I reflashed to 4.15 yesterday after it came up and I just experienced the same problem today. I think this is definitely some sort of driver issue. My stock Sprint ROM never had a problem with the keyboard. This is my only gripe so far with MightyROM, besides that the ROM is way snappier than the stock. I hope it's fixed somehow and soon without having to reflash. I have a feeling its something to do with the hardware keyboard lag fix as I think the keyboard input is just freezing up somehow. Sometimes when the keyboard doesn't work the entire OS starts to respond really slowly.

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

My keyboard completely died and is now unresponsive. Im flashing back to stock re locking and taking it to Sprint. I don't have sprints insurance but since its only 2 months old am I covered under the manufacture warranty? Does Sprint take them back and give you a new one? Also I have a InvisaShield on my TP can i peel it off and use the warrenty on that to get a new one?

You should read through this tread about returning your device. It has information about both Sprint and manufacturer returns. Regarding InvisibleShield you should be able to return it for free replacement. Although I'd recommend taking this opportunity to try another body cover like BodyGuardz instead. I know I'm glad I switched.

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

Man, i don't know if it has to do with me being on Telus and most users with these issues are sprint, but.... Not even ONCE have i experienced anything like you guys are saying.

So weird... I think sprint blew it on this one!

I'm just looking at all the posts here and everyone is on sprint and i constantly hear stories mostly from sprint users about their hardware keyboard conking out.

Man this sucks!

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

It's not sprint specific Mike. I too have had this problem since day 1. (verizon) I've troubleshot this problem as much as my noobness will allow. The problem is that I corrupt my own testing by flashing so often.
I have returned 2 phones due to this issue, and am on my third.

Things I have noticed:
1. The keyboard seems to lock the phone up LESS when I slide it open from the today screen.

2. The phone locks up MORE when opening it in the middle of an app, such as SMS or Remote Desktop.

3. Some ROMS seem to act differently - less lock ups, more lock ups. ( I mainly cook with SSK and different builds)

4. The problem is more prevalent when TF3D is running.

5. The first 2 times I walked into the Verizon store to show them the problem, it didn't happen of course.

6. A verizon rep told me a lot of TP's get returned due to this issue.

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

well i dont know what may cause this problem but i cant get it to work. i had the last juicy rom before the tp2 update and it worked fine for about a day or so, then the keyboard died. flashed to a diff rom and ended up with mikes 4.5 but i have the same issue.

not sure if its the a driver or hardware. im going to flash one more time.. if that doesnt work im going to flash back to stock and take it to sprint.

but i would like to resolve this... i dont know enough to figure this out software wise. so any help would be great....

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

I'm not having hardware keyboard problems....I can't get a SIP to work to save my life....I simply can't figure it out. I have a suspicion that it has to do with Advanced Config....remember we had problems with the Titan?

I'm going to flash tonight and see how long I can keep the SIP working

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

I had the old Dream 0.5 ROM when it first came out (Nov 08?) until about 3 weeks ago (beginning of March) when my keyboard started having the same unresponsive/locking issues where I would type and the backlight would turn off while typing and nothing on the screen. I thought I just needed to reflash, so I went through a lot of the popular custom ROMs on here and ended up with Juggalo, same problem. I flashed back to Sprint stock, same problem except the built in SMS app appeared to crash half the time when I tried to type with the keyboard - though it seemed to get a clue when I pressed hard on the space-bar.

So I relocked, headed to the store, they recreated the same problem with it and got me a new one out of the box (I have the full insurance coverage and they forgot to put in the order for a day). I flashed to Juggalo and all seems fine now. I forgot how smooth typing was and didn't realize I was putting up with the performance issues for so long.
