I decided to chance removing the keyboard and sure enough, on both phones the cable had come loose. I popped it back on and did the same to the other phone. Both phones work just fine now.

It takes a T6 torx bit to remove the screws behind the battery cover, then you can pry the keyboard up out of the case. If I feel motivated enough I may take pics later to make it clearer. I know there's a post around page 3 somewhere that has a pic too.

i think this is the main issue. the cable that comes lose. someone else post about this. and this is also a topic with stock TPs

im starting to think this problem has nothing to do with custom ROMs
