Re: [ROM][WWE][09/13/10] swinnROM 6.5.x 23563/23138/21914 [KITCHEN][CLEAN]
Thank you for your prompt reply! For the record, I am running version 100821. If you think I should run your newer version 100913, I will.
Yes, I have push mail (Exchange) on. That's good to know you know of the issue. ALmost all other ROMs are using some form of Sense which may do some registry changes for that. Too bad no one has posted more information about that. Also I noticed the "Antenna/Arrows" icons in this ROM are different than any ROM I have tried. Perhaps they know of the issue as well, and their versions of "arrows" are actually "off" to give a false sense. As an experience, I did leave the fully charged phone on my desk over night and after 9 hours and 7 new emails, me checking and replying to 3 emails, it's still at 92% battery life! Holy cow! Then again, I always seem to get long battery life overnight if I forget to charge my phone, then during day (with txt, dozens of emails, etc). So, I'll leave it off the charger today and see how it does on the 92%. Other than that, I am really enjoying the "just the way Microsoft intended". Missing a few things that are cooked into the other ROMs like the auto-complete of the TO: for SMS and Emails, but the phone is much faster now. Excellent trade-offs (back to basics) that I am happy to get rid of for the speed. Thank you! Speaking of Speed, I noticed in your ROM, and one of the main reasons why I choose yours, that you said you "uncomrpessed everything for speed". Other ROMs state they use one form of compression (LZ I think?) for maximum speed. A little confused by both of these statements. As a developer of 15 years, anything compressed tells me that some process must decompress those items in order for it to be used. Even if "compressed for speed", this tells me it would still be slower than Uncompressed - which is what your ROM is (and the only ROM I found). To me, everything is just that tad bit faster - which I am really enjoying. Nothing pissed me off more than clicking something and waiting that extra second for something to load. With the wife's Hero that is overclocked runing Android and a "fast UI ROM", hers is much faster than our 2 year old Touch Pros (711mhz or so vs our Touch's 528mhz speed). Not to mention Android 2.2 "FroYo" is 40% faster than Android 2.1 (complete update to the kernel and compiler). To put that into comparison, her Android 2.1 OS, even with a custom ROM, was just a tad faster launching applications than our Touch Pro. But now with Android 2.2's 40% kernel speed improvement, it's a clear night-and-day difference. I am simply amazed at the speed of which things launch now on her phone. So comparing hers to mine again is a night-n-day difference (I always used to steal her phone to get online, instead of using mine). But with this ROM, it's now barely fast enough to keep me on my own phone again (at least until I get an EVO). Thank you again! Donated! Last edited by eduncan911; 10-14-2010 at 11:46 AM. |

The ROM should offer you suggestions if you start typing a name in the TO field. Yeah the ROM is "uncompressed." There are three choices LZH (max compression), XPR (med compression) and none. By compressing the ROM you save space that can be used for installing programs, saving files, etc. Your assessment is mine as well. It should be faster if it doesn't have to spend time decompressing files. I've tried all three and I don't know if you can really tell much difference. These phones have so much space available, it isn't really necessary to conserve though. I still have more than half after installing everything I use.. and I'm sure everyone on these forums has a storage card to save photos to ![]() |

Well, it's been a bit over 24 hours. On silent with 27 new email notifications (read 7), 5 SMS messages, sent 1 MMS picture, downloaded and installed Google Maps, fluxed with Opera MINI a few times, and made a 3 minute phone call...
I still have 52% battery left. ![]() Going to revert that Automatic_Data_Disconnect with the other cab, and see how battery is. But at this point, those arrows showing won't be bothering me much now. |

Loaded your latest 6.5.5 'generic' version a couple of days ago after reviewing messages since my last post. I was having quirky issues with my builds so I wanted to try another person's ROM. Your's is working quite well for me on my Verizon TP. I know that a long standing issue for some, myself included, has been lack of display of the bluetooth icons. I found this cab in Calkulin Kitchen thread and include a link to it here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-diamon...ml#post1696180
It is a small (21K) item that works perfectly after doing a warm boot. Might want to look into incorporating this into your kitchen if it works well for you. BTW, it shows a nice looking blue icon as compared to another version that placed a crude plain white graphic. |

Swinn - quick update on that bluetooth app. It appears to only indicate whether bluetooth comm is on/off and is not a full indicator eg it does not reflect when an earpiece is connected. So, it is better than nothing but I will look for a better solution and I suspect you would prefer one too. The RZ kitchen I have been using implements bluetooth correctly so I need to figure out what is different between what you use and it.

I think I might have posted this before, if so forgive me, but for you Sprint users, I did lick that Telenav "your account has expired" message several months ago:
Basically since Sprint Navigation IS Telenav (just a slightly older version), long story short: install Sprint Navigation then install the latest version of Telenav from its website. Yeah it's redundant. Yeah, it's a stupid hack. But there's still some things Telenav does better than Bing Navigation and there's something Bing Navigation does better than Telenav. You still need a data connection for both to work well, though. TomTom Navigator, however, does not require a data connection, but you can't use mapshare to update it, so your map can get out of date fairly quickly (and the New Zealand voice is very easy to understand). |

Re: [ROM][WWE][09/13/10] swinnROM 6.5.x 23563/23138/21914 [KITCHEN][CLEAN]
Ok
Back to wireless. I noticed that when I enabled wireless, I wasn't getting any connection whatsoever (apart fro AP association) unless I manually specify DNS. Anyone else have this problem? Using Total Commander, still can't connect to local shares anyway. The DNS issue leads me to speculate it could be a further WINS / NetBIOS resolution issue for the share name (e.g. \\192.168.2.10\share_name ), but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense because WINS only supposed to be applicable for the server names not the shares. Besides, my NAS is statically assigned and registered in my DNS forwarder. . . So here's the question: Does Windows Mobile Professional have WINS / NetBIOS protocolls? If so, can they be enabled/disabled? It's not important enough for me to pay for Resco only to find THAT doesn't work either. |
