Using Total Commander, still can't connect to local shares anyway. The DNS issue leads me to speculate it could be a further WINS / NetBIOS resolution issue for the share name (e.g. \\192.168.2.10\share_name ), but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense because WINS only supposed to be applicable for the server names not the shares. Besides, my NAS is statically assigned and registered in my DNS forwarder. . .

So here's the question: Does Windows Mobile Professional have WINS / NetBIOS protocolls? If so, can they be enabled/disabled?

It's not important enough for me to pay for Resco only to find THAT doesn't work either.
Sigh.

Got it.

Firstly, Windows Mobile doesn't support IP addresses, only UNC / NetBIOS names.

Secondly: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\SecurityProviders\NTLM\LmC ompatibilityLevelClient set to 0. Documentation here

1 should work, but I haven't tried as my WLAN is finicky. I really need one of those nice Atheros 5006 card and re do my antennas.

Is there a cab to easily install Sense 2.5 on top of this rom?

I guess we've been busy. I'm sure it might be possible, but the process is antithetical to the purpose of swinnrom. Therefore, I know of no cab. Sorry I'm not much help.

swinnrom 100821 sanity check requested.

Despite my earlier triumph, wireless stopped working completely. I re-flashed / update to 1008211 thinking maybe I changed a reg entry I shouldn't have. . .

No joy.

Could someone who's wireless does work verify his settings and or post any modifications he had to do from the installation defaults to get it working?

Changes I made:
I said my network adapter connects to "The Internet"
I entered the address of the DNS forwarder in my router as the Primary DNS.
And 8.8.8.8 as the secondary

Is the wireless even connecting to your router?

Oh. Yes. Indeed it is connecting and associating. This was working fine on the previous ROM (as previously reported). If I think about it it was working until I installed your data disconnect cab? That doesn't make sense. Does it?

Anyway, I reflashed.

Had a buddy come by late night and try his phone's wireless connection. Didn't quite work so well. When it did connect to web pages, it was slow then stopped working completely According to his device (HTC G2) signal good but a tracert died at the gateway.

What bugs me is every computer in the house that use wireless (3-- two XP pro and one Win 7 64) connect and browse no problem, so likewise I assume it's a problem with the phone.

In summary

Things I've tried
  • Reflash router
  • Reflash phone
  • HTC G2

Things to do
  • ping my firewall dstro's mailing list (monowall)
  • take my phone to other APs.
  • is there a way under windows phone / mobile 6.5.5 to constrain TX/RX rates of the wireless adapter?

With WP7 basically out and such, I feel I'm fighting a loosing battle.

Perhaps related, you may want to check out my blog post about:

Could be an issue you are having, or one of others I list there.

As dwellman mentioned, that's the whole point of this ROM - to REMOVE Sense. You're looking at the wrong ROM if u want that.

From what I gather by my previous ROMs I ran (and donated to, always donate for someone's hardwork!), HTC's Sense is actually a combination of dozens of smaller programs that all work in conjunction - it's not just the "UI". Some ROMs have certain Sense apps loaded, others do not, etc. That's what ticked me off when using one ROM over another. Some would install this special app for mail reading, another would install another app. While pretty good in certain things, it was always complicated and seemed to follow only that person's way of thinking. I ended up overwirting quite a lot of their "ROM"'s HTC Sense stuff with CABs and I found on the net to "roll back" things. That's when I found this ROM - perfect. No longer do I have to think about where I am going, I just click it and I'm there.

For example, in the HTC Sense UI when clicking "Mail" they have figured out the registery keys that 'launches' whatever .exe you have configured. HTC Sense has its own "Mail Browser" exe that lets you flick and integrates Facebook friend's avatars (yet another exe running). Clicking further into the thread will eventually launch the underlying built-in Messaging exe. That's a lot of exes and steps to take! Custom ROMs often change this process to load some 3rd party mail reader, or perhaps one that they wrote.

This ROM goes BACK to the way Microsoft intended WIndows Mobile 6.5 to be, to look, and to function. When you click "mail" with this ROM, you simply go to the built-in Messaging exe. That's in. Now, look at all of the exes and clicks that saves?

Reminds me of the new Windows Phone commercials. "Get in. Get out. Get on with your life." Instead of clicking clicking clicking clicking, launching launching launching lauching. YouTube - Really: New Windows Phone 7 Official Ad

I checked my connectivity out at another wireless location (two different APs available at that location). No joy.

Lets try different ROMs. . .

Re: [ROM][WWE][09/13/10] swinnROM 6.5.x 23563/23138/21914 [KITCHEN][CLEAN]

Ok, it's working now, sort of.

I flashed the Sprint 6.5.3 cab (I had been using the 6.5.5 generic).

I can browse the web using IE and Opera mini with impunity. Marketplace conks out from time to time (i hate marketplace, but need home screen customizer) and I cannot browse local LAN Yes, I remembered to switch NLTM.

All in all, I'd say won.
