here are some simplified steps....

-reboot into recovery, do a nandbackup

-toggle USB, copy the fresh data.img to c:\sdk\tools (or wherever your path is)

-copy new ROM to sd card

-toggle USB again

-wipe data & dalvik-cache

-flash new ROM (DONT REBOOT)

-wipe data & dalvik-cache again

-power down

-boot into bootloader

-select fastboot

-from pc (usb cable plugged in still) type... fastboot flash userdata data.img

-when finished, reboot
Ok, now that I'm home and ready to try this I just took some time to read it a little more clearly and.....

Is this to update the PRI or to flash your new rom?

Reason I'm asking is the because the step that says "-flash new ROM (DONT REBOOT)"

Thanks again for all the help.

So what was the magic combination you did to get the PRI updated?

General question for all......

What ROM are you on when you successfully get the PRI to update?

Thanks.

anythings possible, have u tried backing up, then flashing the stock rooted rom, then ##786#?

others have seen this too, how big is your data.img? it could either be too big or could be from not wiping over several roms, causing it to bloat

as much as a pain as it is, when I first starting doing this, I wiped , then flashed then setup all my settings & apps, then took another backup....the data.img was considerably smaller. So I think it's best to start w/ a clean slate.

Since I've started using this process, I no longer have to backup anything via titanium or mybackup pro, cuz when I write the data.img, I'm back where I left off.....but u have to go through the nand backup each time b4 flashing

this procedure is to restore all your settings, apps etc, after flashing (and wiping)

Tells me if I'm doing this wrong. So everytime you flash a new rom you'll have to go to Titanium backup and restore your back up to get all your apps back. This process takes me over 20 minutes to do it. It seems like a nuisance. It's bc even though I'm running a batch update I still have to click Install then Done over 100 times. Man it really sucks.
