It'd be nice to be able to do it through BB for the instant rebate, the resulting lower sales tax, and the reward zone points.
I got my TP1 from Best Buy just like you (I'm assuming you were there for the Dec 1st sale!) and had them activate them on my SERO account. I don't recall them having to call it in, however, but I do remember my friend's activation being a lot quicker that day.

SERO has been locked down considerably since then. For instance, when you call customer service, you will be routed directly to Employee Care regardless of the prompt you've chosen. Also, if you go to a store to buy or activate a pgibe, or maybe even service your current account, they will refer you to Employee care and send you on your way. I was told that they are not allowed to touch SERO accounts at the store level (ended up having to go through Telesales/Sprint.com to buy an Epic on my SERO account).

Finally, the FAQ on Sprint's website clearly prohibits other retailers from activating new devices on SERO accounts. This is likely a computer-only restriction, probably to limit commission fees paid by Sprint... many people are suggesting that a helpful enough Best Buy employee should be able to get around this by calling in the activation for you (YMMV?).

Re: SERO to allow other phones

Are there any leaked roadmaps or any announcements of upcoming Sprint devices? I'm very interested in a 3G smartphone like most of us here.

Whoa... you actually got SERO back??? How long did you spend on the non-SERO plan?

I would've bet you anything that I could build a time machine and bring you back to SERO before Sprint could do it for you conventionally.

That would be nice to have before October! Unfortunately I haven't seen anything coming to Sprint recently but there has to be something for Christmas right? I've actually decided I am gonna try to find a Samsung Moment under $100 on eBay and skip the Epic and Evo in hopes something better is right around the corner.

Yeah I think I'm with you on that one... the Epic and EVO didn't impress me as much as their harware specs. I would kill for an HTC HD2-like device w/ a keyboard and a smaller screen.

Re: SERO to allow other phones

You can almost guarantee that sprint will also have an extra $10 fee for Windows Phone 7 phones similar to the Epic and Evos.
So I would bet that once a WP7 hits Sprint, SERO folks will have to pay $20 a month to get it.

Also I've seen that A LOT of apps aren't playing nice with samsung galaxy s and even though it's still early, there is much community support for the Epic (custom roms, mods, etc...)
Yah I agree about support. XDA support is one of the main reasons Im going with the Evo. Sure, they *have* a Galaxy area, but meh. Small support is small.
