Don't worry about the questions...you have to learn somewhere/somehow...we all did!!!
When you run the backup file (main PPC backup) it will bring your device to the point it was at when you did the backup. For instance...if you do a backup now (saving it on a card), then hard reset, your device is set back to 'out of the box' status. Now use file explorer, find the backup file, and run it. Your phone would be back at the point it was when you did the backup...Today screen, apps (including registrations), and any reg tweaks. You may need to run your PIM backup file, but if I remember correctly, they are in the main file as well!!! I hope we are clearing up some things for you.
