Maybe I did something wrong, but I wanted to play around with a few programs so I did a full backup. After checking the apps out I clicked the EXE and restored the backup. After the soft reset everything was the same, the programs I was using were still installed even though they were there before I did the backup.

Any ideas?

Two questions....you mention the programs were there before the backup....do you mean they were NOT there before backup? Secondly....did you do a hard-reset BEFORE you ran the backup file? I am not sure what happens if you don't do a hard reset first, but the backup file is made to start from a clean slate. I think if you run it, you wind up over-writing whatever is there, and possibly duplicating. Plus.....if the apps are installed on your card they will still be there until you uninstall them....you just may have trouble running them from the program menu on the device.

Does that help any?

Sorry should have specified more. I did a full backup. Then installed Card Export II and WM5torage to play with. After I was done I restored using the EXE and it soft reset. I thought that it would restore to the point before CEII and WM5torage was installed, but it didn't. It could be like you say and just need to hard reset then run the EXE. I'll give it a try.

I think you will find more success, I think what happened is that you restored the rest of your device over the two apps you installed, so they were still there. Let me know how the next try goes. (I may be doing a hard reset tonight if I don't like the dialer mod I do later!!!! LOL)

Sure enough, after a hard reset and restore everythings good. Once I get a good install on my phone or pc I'm always hesitant to install new apps because I don't want to clog things up, but this is going to make that possible.

One comment about SPB Backup. I had been using it very succssefully on my 6700 for over a year. I did manual backups, not scheduled, but it wokred great and saved my butt a few times on rebuilds.

My 6700 got switched for a Mogul (w/ WM6) and it seems that SPB is a little buggier. Backups always hang at the reset screen (at the end of a backup session), restores sometimes hang, and last night it got hung just starting the backup process. I'm wondering if its having a WM6 compatability issue. I'm going to check to see if I have the latest build and I tried out a trial of Sprite last night.

the program will back up every registry hack you currently have; essentially it's like norton ghost where it creates an image of your ppc in whatever state it's currently in now. This is why it is not recommended to use when you're upgrading or changing your rom because it will overwrite over system files and basically undo the upgrade of your rom.

Really? From what I see everyone saying, they use it as a way to reinstall all their programs and hacks *after* upgrading their ROM.

That is kind of a touchy subject....I have had many people/sites say not to do a restore after a ROM update because it will over-write the update, but then you have some updates (the last couple from VZW that tell you to do just that....create a backup just in case.

Also (I can't speak for any other service than VZW here) all the upgrades I have done (3) have only upgraded the POM, and left everything intact, so I never had to do an update.

Just my experiences!!

It is recommended NOT to restore a backup after a ROM update. Look at it like this:
You have Windows XP on your PC, you make a Ghost image of that (just in case) and then install Vista. If you restore the Ghost image, then you lose the "benefits" (sarcasm) of Vista. Not exactly the same, but the general principal is that any registry changes made in order for your new ROM to work optimally would be changed to your backup's values. Other items would also be changed to the backup's values. Just not a good idea.
