Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
Thanks guys,
I had already found that. I just don't want to screw this up - so I've been doing a lot of reading - and now asking questions. The other thread was about spl2.47 - it says not to use it with non-gps radio/roms. But the numbers given seem to be for sprint based moguls - not the vzw 6800. Now I'm quite sure that the stock 6800 with 2.09 rom and 1.30 radio are both non-gps. I'm just looking for sanity checks here. There's nowhere I've read that said No2Chems rom programs would do the carrier stuff for you. I've collected quite a few rom images and am trying to figure out which one(s) I'd like to try. I'd obviously like to get the gps working to try that out. But past that, on my previous phone (pos samsung i730) I mainly just used the phone, voice dialer, and outlook via wireless sync. I'd like to get a lot more functionality out of this phone. It seems the phone stuff works similar to that on WM5 on the i730 - which to me was just so-so as far as user friendliness. Voice dialer not so much so far. Wireless sync is exactly the same. So, yes, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can before diving into the deep end. I'm a HW engineer by trade - design ARM based embedded systems - just not smartphone/pdas. And I have experience with CE5 and Platform Builder. So eventually I expect to look at kitchens and the like - although SW is not my speciality. So please be patient with me as I do what I do and over analyze this stuff to death before I'm comfortable. |

Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
Yes, you are right, all the verizon stock roms are non gps. This is the moment were you need to take a leap of faith. since there is no verizon stock rom, once you go GPS I do not believe you can go back(someone correct me if I am wrong as I am a sprint customer). basically you can feel comfortable in knowing that once you have the nuespl on your phone, it is pretty unlikely you will be able to brick your phone. and if you do, just make sure your insurance is paid up, and let your phone have a mysterious accident

Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
So going back to your original post - the steps to flashing your own rom - from the vzw 6800 perspective:
1) run olipro 2.40 (Hard-SPL-MFG.exe(ver2.40)) to upgrade the bootloader and unlock cant use spl2.47 because I'm at a non-gps firmware/radio state is TitanUnlocker.exe an acceptable equivalent choice? 2) run Titan_Radio_ROM_3.42.30.exe to upgrade the radio. 3) honestly not clear on what the winrar step is for does - most of the rom images only have the RUU_signed.nhb - like the ones from ImCoKeMaN, No2Chem, & NexVision - the ones from SBR_L3GIONN & Dette do have extra files and executables. So are these executables compatable across the different images or does each author have their own customized set? I suspect compatable but don't know for sure. The dcd_titan_3.2.0.exe is just that an executable not a rar - is it a self-extracting zip or an executable that has everything built-in? Also your link to the ftp site doesn't work on my computer - following the link on the menu above it now gives a different url. So, I'm still confused about the after radio section of your walkthrough. Maybe you are just presuming facts that you think are in my chain of evidence - which of course they may be and I'm just not connecting the dots. So are you expecting me to unpack a file(s) here and if so which ones? 4) Download and unpack the main rom image. 5) Find and execute the romupdateutility.exe 6) After flash is complete reboot by removing and replacing the main battery. Where is the carrier cab suppose to run if it does not run automatically? Thanks again for all the assistance and your patience. Last edited by PapstDFrisco; 07-10-2008 at 11:18 AM. |

pretty much every custom rom out there is a GPS rom now, do use the SPL as olipro 2.40 is also gps rom only it will be fine as long as you upgrade to a GPS enabled rom. you dont want to load the stock vzw rom, you want to first load a sprint rom with the gps, then load a custom rom. run the nuespl, then run the latest SPRINT rom, then load the custom rom, after that you need to run the verizon carrier cab file not rom. http://www.lifesnotsogood.com/dcd1182/carriers/ that puff posted has the verizon carrier cab |

Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom
I checked the link, for some reason the ftp site doesn't like me linking into folders I guess. I updated the post but just go to ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com then Titan then Users
I have never used titanunlocker.exe so I cannot say on that one. if you can successfully get olipro 2.40 on your phone, just use that, then after you get your custom rom on it, install nueSPL if you are having too many issues installing it first. |
