Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom

"An alternate method to installing the custom roms after you have the latest radio and boot loader would be to have a micro SD card formatted to the fat32 file system. at this point put the nbh file on the card in its root directory (in no folders) and name the file TITAIMG.nbh. once this is done hold the power button and camera button while using the stylus to softreset the phone, this will bring it into boot loader mode and will update the rom. Not all sd cards seem to be compatible with this method, so if you have issues just use the method above. If you do a search for a program called pocketrar, you can download the roms directly to your phone and try updating them without having to connect to your pc. otherwise, you will need to active sync the file over, and as we know if you have vista that can be a major issue. though for some reason the RUU folder method can still seem to see the phone usually."

Do you have to have the same memory card that has the fat32 file system on it or any sd card will do?

Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom

Hey cornelious...

Thanks for all the great info in this thread. But I think I'm suffering from info overload.
I posted a bunch of questions over in this thread (mainly because I'm confused/unsure as to if I can use the spl2.47 or if that is only valid after and initial radio and rom upgrade): http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...nuespl-&page=8 Maybe you know some of the answers or can point me to them.

Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom

I can add one tidbit of info on the SD card. I read somewhere it needs to be 2G or less in size. Hope that helps too. & definitely Fat32 - easy to do on the PC - just a drop-down selection.

okay I read your questions on the other thread.

first off olipro 2.4 or nuespl do the same thing its one or the other.

second, you just need to run a verizon carrer cab, or if you install one that no2chem runs it will ask you to select the carrier and do it for you.

Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom

Thanks guys,
I had already found that.
I just don't want to screw this up - so I've been doing a lot of reading - and now asking questions.
The other thread was about spl2.47 - it says not to use it with non-gps radio/roms. But the numbers given seem to be for sprint based moguls - not the vzw 6800. Now I'm quite sure that the stock 6800 with 2.09 rom and 1.30 radio are both non-gps. I'm just looking for sanity checks here.
There's nowhere I've read that said No2Chems rom programs would do the carrier stuff for you. I've collected quite a few rom images and am trying to figure out which one(s) I'd like to try.

I'd obviously like to get the gps working to try that out. But past that, on my previous phone (pos samsung i730) I mainly just used the phone, voice dialer, and outlook via wireless sync.

I'd like to get a lot more functionality out of this phone. It seems the phone stuff works similar to that on WM5 on the i730 - which to me was just so-so as far as user friendliness. Voice dialer not so much so far. Wireless sync is exactly the same.

So, yes, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can before diving into the deep end. I'm a HW engineer by trade - design ARM based embedded systems - just not smartphone/pdas. And I have experience with CE5 and Platform Builder. So eventually I expect to look at kitchens and the like - although SW is not my speciality.

So please be patient with me as I do what I do and over analyze this stuff to death before I'm comfortable.

Re: Simple steps to flashing your own rom

Yes, you are right, all the verizon stock roms are non gps. This is the moment were you need to take a leap of faith. since there is no verizon stock rom, once you go GPS I do not believe you can go back(someone correct me if I am wrong as I am a sprint customer). basically you can feel comfortable in knowing that once you have the nuespl on your phone, it is pretty unlikely you will be able to brick your phone. and if you do, just make sure your insurance is paid up, and let your phone have a mysterious accident . But trust me when I say that it is a leap worth taking, and even though you can't go back to stock (I believe again someone correct me if I am wrong) you really won't care. It would be like a cripple having to give up his cane for a working pair of legs.
