Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Do these instructions work for a brand new phone that has never had any flashes or ROM updates? I'm having trouble matching up these instructions vs. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9927.
On that link it says the first thing you must do is unlock your phone, these instructions don't seem to mention unlocking. Can I completely ignore that thread and just follow the instructions here? Thanks! |

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
I called them 3 times (no joke) last night for a new A key and no one got annoyed. The final guy I talked to told me to write it down and as long as I don't call them, I could re-use the one he gave me as they only regenerate a new one if you call. Unsure if this is true or not as I haven't started to mess with my phone today...
To enter it if its lost - you'll be able to tell as a *228 option 1 will say "unable to authenticate your phone" - press ##778# for Sprint radio (or if on No2Chem's latest just go to EPST settings under advanced settings I think), edit, 000000 for unlock code, View info, A-key, enter the humongous 26 digit number, menu and save I think.... Hope this helps and what ever you do, if you upgrade to the Sprint radio DO NOT DO A *228 option 2 or you may brick your phone! Update: re-using the same A key didn't work....getting another one now... Last edited by Osteo; 03-19-2008 at 08:41 PM. |

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
a couple questions for my fellow verizon users. are people still having gps sync issues with the new rom. I followed these directions to a T and am using the new DCD rom. but am still facing some issues with connecting (as in it takes a while to connect to a satellite) is there any way around this? I tried using GPS gate and still have the same issues.

If I want to use DCD Kitchen again because i forgot to include the MMS portion do i need to run throught the whole sprint setups for updating the rom. Or can I just jump right to the DCD Kitchen portion?

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Hey I just wanted to say thanks for this thread and simple guide. It gave me the confidence to successfully flash my stock xv6800 to the newest sprint radio and dcd 3.0.1. I'm pretty much issue free at this point. A couple of notes:
After performing the upgrade successfully, the radio suddenly died. A hard reset fixed it. I finally tracked the issue back to installing No2Chem's LED Service Driver cab. I switched to LED Killer 3.1 and everything is fine. There are a couple of other threads I would recommend having handy while performing this upgrade on verizon. One is the Easy Guide to Upgrading. This notes (in yellow text) are good to know. I especially liked the part discussing locker/re-locker. I realized I didn't need to re-lock my pure stock ROM first. The other thread that was valuable was the Stuck in Bootloader thread. Maybe it's more of a security blanket, but after updating my bootloader, I did get stuck at bootloader screen. Having the exit-bootloader utility ready made me feel a lot better those minutes of staring at hot tri-color death. Anyway, I'm very appreciative, and off to read some more threads and learn more about WM6.1. |
