Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

My experience is you usually dont need a new akey unless you change the radio version.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Thank you for the response. I believe I did update the Radio when I tried to ROM. The install worked so well, the GPS worked, I was able to use the internet, but when I tried to make a call, I received the Verizon "Phone is not activated." message. When I tried to get the phone activated through Verizon, I was told they could not help me because dialing ##778, would try to dial out instead of showing the phone's configuration. So, being stuck, I ended up installing a stock ROM, and calling Verizon to activate the phone.

I really would like the GPS feature working. Again, as I've read else where on the forums, Verizon has disabled the GPS, and at this time they have no idea when or if they will ever turn on the feature.

Now the 6900 is out, so I think any real changes from VZW for the 6800 will be few if any.

With a great device with features wanted, why would you disable them??

Again, thank you for the response. I would still like to backup my ROM, I don't want to give up yet, or be able to see the A-Key so I may write it down.

Again, all help is appreciated...

when you flash to a new radio, you'll need a new aKey. Verizon has to give this to you. you simply tell them you did a hard reset and now your phone can't authenticate.
you say you called them and they said they couldn't help you ? that sounds suspect to me. of COURSE they can help. and help you they must.
did you simply hang up ? i don't quite understand that.

your aKey will not be visible, so don't look for it.
if you couldn't dial out to ##778 (NO trailing # - just ##778 )
then try *228
this will authenticate your phone with the VZW towers and you then should be able to send and recieve phone calls.. the aKey you'll need, is for the data connection.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Nickles,

You're right. After the customer service rep told me I must be able to get to the screen using ##778, and not dial out, I gave up. More like chicken out.

I'm still new (newbie) with Pocket PCs, so I'm trying to not only make functions that are included in my phone work, I want to learn more about programming the phone. I understand that programming the phone would most likely be another web site or forum.

When I tried to use *228 the message stated that I was authorized or activated, yet the phone would not let me dial out. I would keep getting the message to contact Verizon because the phone could not be authenticated. This is not the exact meassage, but close enough. I even tried the *22899 with no luck. #832, no help.

So to keep from going and wiping my phone again, I would like to be able to backup the ROM and A-Key if I can to be on the safe side. Measure twice, cut once.

Thank you again for the response...

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

The akey is a one time use code which you cannot view nor resuse even if you write it down. All you have to do is call and say you cant authenticate after doing a hard reset. It is inconvienient but only takes a few minutes. Actually the akey is for voice nickels the dmu system is for data. Next time try your data and it most likely will connect to evdo data but fail voice next time you need an akey.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

nickles and drellisdee,

After thinking it over, and considering I have much to gain, I tried the procedure again, this time staying away from the "Radio" ROMs.

Everything worked like a charm!!! Not only does the GPS work, the phone and internet works as well!!!

I can't thank you folks enough...

Please keep up the good work!!!

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

OK, I've read all the posts on this and other threads and here is my only question, almost . All I have are vista machines, is this REALLY a problem or is it only an odd occurrence that people are getting stuck? If it is a REAL problem, is there a work around??

Question Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Actually I have another question . Will the VX6800 function on Verizon with the sprint rom or do you also have to flash one of the custom ROM's? Is the Sprint ROM just to get the radio? I haven't decided which custom ROM to flash yet but would like to play around with 6.1 and the GPS.

You have to flash to a VZW supported ROM, or use the kitchen to create one. You cannot stay on the Sprint ROM unless you want to be a Sprint phone.
