Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

The upgrade has arrived for Rev A and Mobile 6.1 for teh XV6800. It is in the Verizon website.

http://handsets.utstar.com/downloads...%20Upgrade.zip

I had to call to get the phone re-authenticated. Hard reset is not the answer.

Enjoy!

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Old news there buddy. Problem is now you can only use the GPS with VZnavigator with that ROM. May want to hold off on the flash. There are some work arounds but you have to search them out.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Okay, I guess this would be a good time to say I am new to the whole PPC thing. I just know that since this thing has Windows on it, it should have more capabilities than it does from the factory. What does this Mod do (ie, why do it)?

And what the heck it a boot loader? The guide is pretty clear on the "How" I just need some terminology updates. Feel free to link me to a different thread to figure this out.

I am curious as to the "Why"

EDIT: Basically, here's what I want to do: I want GPS (like Microsoft Streets and Trips with GPS...it's free to use after buying the program, no monthly fees) that I can use without a monthly subscription, I want all the normal voice/TXT, and pix/flix messaging capabilities, and be able network to my laptop to use it's internet connection on my phone so I don't have to get 2 seperate Broadband packages from Verizon (I have the old Unlimited Broadband, I ain't giving it up! LOL) (basically an install in my truck to use my laptops wireless as a mobile "hot spot"). I anyone can point me in some, if not all, of the direction I need to do this, it would be great!

You don't have to do things quite like this guide suggest. I have a tutorial made. The link is in my signature. I have definitions to a lot of the terminology listed there as well. Also if you want to build your own ROM (windows mobile with the programs you select to have added in), look at the tutorial for how to on ROM building.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

I am actually following that guide right now. I was going back and forth between that pages and this one and was looking to do the Sprint setup that had been modified for the Verizon carriers (So it still appeared to be a Verizon phone). I couldn't get DCD to start up, I searched through the entire file after unzipping it to find some exe, bat, or com file, and couldn't find one to run the program. So right now I am waiting for BuilOS to finish upgrading. All is pretty smooth thus far. Will update and ask questions for my next mod.
