Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

I'm gonna try this for the first time, so i have a question. in step one, where you copy all you're info, i have one problem. When i go to view info, i don't have a security tab, and i have like 7 M.IP. tabs (settings, default profile, and customer profiles 1-5). i coped all the M.IP. stuff down, so i'm not worred about that, but what about the security part? Do i need that?

The security settings do not show in View mode, only in Edit mode after entering the MSL.

Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

Ok, so after bricking my previous 6800 Verizon flavor phone when the 3.27 radio just came out... I followed these directions sweating bullets the whole way. When trying to revert my previous device from the 3.27 Radio and appropriate OS ROM I apparently screwed something up when relocking the device. DOH! However with the new device and some courage I followed these instructions and WOW... IT WORKS!

The GPS did take a long time to latch on to satellites the first time but after that it seems to work pretty quickly without any apps running constantly in the background. I'm impressed... and used DCDs image. I've recently downloaded the latest kitchen and will be playing with that shorlty!

Is there a good thread for discussions on the Extended ROM and possibly WM 6.1 vs WM 6.0??

Thanks to all that put this thread and instructions together. From a factory device they appear to be flawless! Even for Verizon devices!

Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

Hi, I would like to ask a rookie question. I have loaded no2's 6.1 5060 build onto my phone. However, I feel like I'm missing some files or maybe even the .net framework. Can I verify with everyone here that if I just want the no-frills basic 5060, then on the BuildOS updater, I just need to choose the 5060 6.1m build and NOT any of the other ones? I appreciate your help!

Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

OK,

I bricked my first 6800 trying to flash to a new ROM. I guess I didn't quite understand the procedure and/or ORDER of the parts being flashed. I'm on VZW, and all I really want NOW is the ability to use the internal GPS. Here are a few questions I have before bricking my second phone:

1) If flashing both OS and RADIO, do I have to do the RADIO ROM FIRST?
2) Can I leave the stock OS ROM and just do the RADIO ROM update?
3) When running the unlocker/hardspl, do I let it go through the whole flash sequence, or just cancel it out when it asks for the ROM file?

Thanks for all the time and help!

dp

*it may not have been BRICKED, but I didn't know how to get it past the VZW splash screen, and the ROM instructed that you had to have the correct RADIO and it was still on the old version*

Not really, at least not that i could find, but the kitchen generally includes the tools needed to unhide/unlock the extended ROM if it's not already. If a search doesn't produce answers to your questions, then feel free to ask...

As far as WM6 vs WM6.1 - talk of the differences is scattered throughout

No2chem's builds are very basic, and that's what recommend No2Chem!!!

There is a way to flash the Radio only, but its not recommended. In Fact, over @ XDA where the radio was posted, it was REMOVED due to too many people trying to flash just the radio and ending up w/ bricks. The safest way to upgrade your Radio is by Flashing the 3.35 Sprint Official ROM and then DO NOT let customizations run (soft reset) - then you can flash your custom ROM. When you run the unlocker you shoudl get an RUU - that will put the 2.40 bootloader on your device.

unlock -> 3.35 Official Sprint ROM -> Custom Rom

Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

First off, thanks for the prompt and in depth reply.

You're explanation makes sense. The actual RADIO ROM is included IN the Sprint ROM, and therefore doesn't need to be updated when replacing the OS with another. Only a new/custom OS ROM needs to be installed, as the OS and RADIO are separate.

Thanks again for your help!
