(DK28)
Hey, try these files. Put victory.pit in the pit section, and put modem.tar in the PDA section.

Re: Permanent root for the Samsung Epic 4g

I can't get the Samsung drivers to load on my Sony Win7 64 bit laptop or my 32 bit desktop. It loads part way but either the ADB won't load right or the Samsung Mobile driver. I have tried removing, re-installing after fresh downloads more than twenty times. I want to root so I can tether without Sprint's Hotspot.

Easy tether and PDA-Net can't load the drivers for the Epic, either. I have tried everything I have read and watched all of the videos. With my TP2, it was so easy and I want to custom rom with the Epic....mostly to tether. Any help or anything else I can try. Samsungs chat is always closed and support is useless.but still couldn't tether.

I should ad that I was able to Z4root on dI18 but still couldn't tether. No workie with Z4root on EB13.

I believe its not a problem if one of the four drivers dont install.
In the One click root folder did you right click the run file and choose "run as administrator" to open the Root script?

That's the page that im talking about...the title for the root without clockwork is the following:

"[ECLAIR] One Click Root w/ BusyBox and Remount Scripts, Now has superuser.apk"

Does that mean it won't work with Froyo, just Eclair? I can't find anywhere where it says it works with Froyo...or does it mean it works with Eclair and up OS's?

You scrolling down too much..

[FROYO+ECLAIR] One Click Root w/ ClockworkMOD + Redirector, BusyBox and Remount Scripts, superuser.apk!

is the title..

Yeah, sorry, I guess I'm not explaining myself properly. I don't want the clockwork mod on my phone. I want to use Amon_ra. If installing clockwork is something that i can completely ignore, then i guess I'll use that root with it. i would just rather not even put it on my phone if i dont have to...so youre saying that the other root without clockwork is only for eclair?

Re: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! Now has ClockworkMod!

By the way, you can tell by the phones that Ive had, i am very versed with windows mobile. I've been cooking roms for years. But I got the Epic last week, and I am a complete Noob when it comes to android and rooting...just an fyi...haha.

It should work I guess..

As for Amon_Ra..it doesn't exists for the Epic..Clockworkmod is the only option.

Wow...thanks...didn't know that. From what I was reading, it seemed more like it had to do with the OS, not the hardware. I guess I'll root the phone with Clockwork. One more question, will having clockwork on the phone inhibit my ability to use Titanium Backup?

Re: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! Now has ClockworkMod!

I'm using the root with clockwork for froyo. It got to "copying files onto phone", but its been staying there. How long should i wait before it's stuck and not working. I feel like it may be rooted because i can see a lot more folders when i use astro now, including one that says "system". if its still rooting and I unplug the phone, will i brick it?

Yes, just make sure to hit the "Problems?" button before using titanium to download its own busybox

It shouldnt brick your phone..and in worst case you can always odin back.but as I said it shouldn't brick..you can check if your rooted with titanium, it will tell you..make sure you have all 4 drivers installed..that might be why its hanging...

I thought it could be the driver issues, so im starting from scratch. I'm installing the drivers again. I thought i waited long enough before, everyone was saying 5 mintues, but I'm gonna wait a while this time until it says device drivers installed...haha.

When you plug it in..go to device manager and you can see if anything is still left to install..sometimes you may have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to fully install...if that fails..just install drivers manually..they are located in the 16_shrewberry folder

There is a total of 4 drivers...you ended up going with the clockworkmod version or without?

Re: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! Now has ClockworkMod!

With, didn't want to risk the root without incase its not meant for froyo. It seems like it worked though. A reboot widget that i wanted to use works now that the phone is rooted. The only weird thing is that the first page on may app screen is missing one icon at the bottom right, and the app to the left of it is called "superuser". i don't remember what 2 apps were there before. do you have any idea what i lost? i have a stock EB13 rom.

Super User is an app that keeps root under control..its similar to how windows asks you do you want to allow Admin permissions..same thing it by default bans all apps from using root permission without first asking you...then it saves your preferences.

It shouldn't remove any apps as far as I am aware :/

I figured thats what superuser was...hmmm...i wonder what i lost. Doesn't really matter though. EB13 is kinda glitchy and has way too much bloatware, and my battery life sucks, so im gonna flash a custom rom...any recommendations? speed, stability, and battery life are most important for me.

Well boils down to whether you want to go the EXT4 road..it gives you added speed but some claim some stability is lost..others are fine with it (in my case I am using EXT4).

EXT4 is the changing of the phones file system from RFS to EXT4..

To convert to EXT4 you gotta load up Clockworkmod 3 instead of 2 though...

As for roms there are a plenty to choose from, popular ones are:

Midnight rom, ACS Syndicate rom and Viper rom

For battery life you want a kernel thats UV aka undervolted...

3. extract and run run.bat
*Linux users chmod +x run.sh and run it, mac users chmod +x run_mac.sh and run it.*

I have a Mac and run the chmod +x run.sh in the terminal. It just pauses and goes to the command prompt again. Please help, my phone upgraded itself and unrooted. Running SPH-D700 2.2.1 Froyo.EC05 and need to root this beast!

Did you enable usb debug mode on the phone? and did you let it install all 4 drivers when you plugged it in?

Also, clockwork 3.0 method is if you plan to go EXT4...is that what your trying to do?

Also, try different USB ports, and the type of cable matters.

yes, i enabled debug mode and yes it installed all 4 drivers. I have no idea what ext 4 is... i know nothing about android basically.

i tried the usb port dance, with an oem usb cable. i will try the cable for my gf's galaxy as well.

what am i doing wrong here.

EDIT: i plugged the phone to the laptop, went to device manager and only saw 3 drivers, i unplugged it and plugged it back in and only 2 appeared... so something is definitely going wrong. i will uninstall the drivers and reinstall them and see if that helps.

EDIT AGAIN LOL: i reinstalled the drivers, this time i let windows detect and install the drivers. im still only getting 3 drivers to show up. the sscdhub.sys is not showing up.

you can manually install the driver..its in the 16_shrewberry folder...

As for EXT4, its a filesystem....if you install it you will need to change your kernel...if you want to stay stock use the cwm 2.5.5 one...

There is a way to root on the phone directly..but I think you need to get this fixed (to make sure your usb port isn't damage or something)..

can you soft reset your phone, then remove all drivers on pc, restart...then install the proper drivers 32bit/64bit etc..then plug it in..click the small icon on the bottom right that looks like a pc with a green dot swirling...this will show you drivers being installed...tell me which drivers finish and which fail.
