Re: Permanent root and one click root for the Samsung Epic 4g

Yesterday I gave 2.2.6 a shot from 2.2.4 for the Super User capability...(which pretty much lets you control which apps have root access and which don't)

And I got that "no device" error even though get-state showed a device...looks like a solution for this is to do:

adb kill-server

soft reset the phone and try again

and it worked..so if anyone experiences this with the new root its something to try.

i actually had that error show up as well when i did it last night. i didnt do the adb-kill server, but i did unplug the usb connection, turned my phone off for 30 seconds, restarted, did the procedure over again and it worked fine. i did notice that in the notifcation tray of my laptop it said that it was still trying to connect/recognize the device. after the restart it went fairly easy.

I do not think that one is necessary for rooting..but you can install it by goign to device manager, choose to install the driver manually and pick the 16_shrewberry folder

No matter what I do, it keeps showing offline in adb devices. I just can't seem to get it to work. The three drivers are installed and in their respectful locations in device manager. Suggestions?

I am on Windows 7. I was trying with my laptop, became frustrated. Finally, I switched to a PC when I got home, also running Windows 7, and it worked the first time. It must be my laptop.

Anyway, thanks!

Thats Android-Wifi-Tether.

The 2.4 root comes with full root, busy box, super user and clockworkmod recovery.

The 2.3 version offers same as above minus clockwork mod. (Also not sure if its froyo compatible)

Have you tried using another rooted tool such as Titanium backup?

as for the wireless, have you tried to manually set the channel?

yeah. i used TB and it said i was rooted. ive got rom manager on his phone and the su app. i also tried manually changing the channel. im used to my evo. i thought it was strange that it set it self up as ad-hoc. anyway his laptop sees his phone but just wont connect properly. i even have sevurity off. right not its running a rotted stock rom only. is there something else i should try or somewhere else i should look.

It replaces the Sprint Hotspot with the original Hotspot called MobileAP from the i9000..it was suppose to be free for all Galaxy S users but as you can guess...Sprint wants to charge money for it....once you put hte i9000 version in, there is no issue and no 30$ a month or anything.

Yea , you install it through Clockwork.
Put it on Sd card,
In Clockwork choose
-install zip from sdcard,
-choose zip from sdcard.
Reboot, done.
Replaces Sprint version.
Get to it in Settings/wireless&networks.

You're not alone. I went through EXACTLY what you just went through when I got my Epic on launch day. The funny thing is that 2 months from now you will wonder why you were ever stressed out. It gets easier the more you learn and the more you experiment.

if any new peeps need help feel free to pm me and we can jump on a chat and fix ya up. i got pretty good at it with what i learned from gten and w7 seems to have most issues i see and a manual install of one of the drivers sometimes is needed.

Re: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! Now has ClockworkMod!

Guys,
I want to try this on my wife's phone. But I need to back the phone up and apps up first (she will kill me if she looses her Angry Birds levels). I wanted to use Titanium Backup to restore all her apps and data, but of course it says for Rooted Users only. So I assume it wont back the phone up at all til the phone is rooted. But that means she will loose everything.

Any ideas?

You shouldn't generally brick the phone by rooting...

The newer root installs clockwork as well but if you use the older root all it does is execute ADB commands...aka 0% change of bricking

Also, there is an app called z4root with option to Root temporarily..

Re: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! Now has ClockworkMod!

i can't root to save my F*n life..

I plug phone in after installing the samsung drivers not sure what the 2/4 3/4 thing means.. i waited till bar was 3/4 full and plugged phone in.. the comp sees it's plugged in but when run one click it doesn't let it do anything..

try exploit and it says phone's not plugged in.. try one click clockwork and get a bunch of failed's.

I used to do WM and that was easy so why is this so damn complicated?

Also when i install the drivers x64 bit (cause win 7 64 bit) i have to keep reinstalling it for it to see the phone as a drive on comp..but moment i unplug and plug back in.. it's gone.. ahve to reinstall drivers all over again.

Its not complicated...once you know whats going on...first I need to ask what windows are you using? and is it 32bit? 64bit?

Lastly when you plug it in, on the bottom right it should say installing drivers..when you click on it..you will see 4 drivers being installed..did all of them finish installing?

(If your on a desktop I would suggest using a back usb port for this)

Superuser is what gives you root access and allows you to do all things that made you want to root your phone in the first place. I don't know if its even possible to remove it, but don't. Without Superuser none of the apps that require root access will work.

I suggest you read the Wiki. Its got just about everything you need to know.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/sprint-epi...lick-root.html

The link for the wiki is in the first post.

As far as Clockwork goes, this is the Clockworkmod thread. Just go back to the first post and start reading (after you read the Wiki).
