I'm showing that the computer is unable to install the driver for TUSB3410. Is this a problem? I have not tried installing the rooting script yet.

The 4th driver does not install but if 3/4 installed it should be fine.

Woo Hoo I'm rooted Y'All. For those of you having trouble, it appears you definately need to reboot your PC and phone both before attempting to "root" it. I, too had errors which were resolved by simply rebooting my PC and phone. Also, it took a REALLY long time for all of the drivers to install, so be patient. I walked away from my pc for a half an hour and came back and all 4 drivers were properly installed. I have tested it with Titanium Backup as suggested elsewhere and it works so, I'm pretty sure I'm rooted now. I'm really loving this phone.

I've done everything on every post with no rooting on my Epic, but one thing is that when I've reinstalled the drivers, my phone is not recognized on my 32 xp pc what should I do?

I had the same problem. I tried for over an hour and I never could get my 32-bit XP PC to recognize my phone. Luckily I have a 64-bit laptop that is running Windows 7. That worked like a charm. I know this doesn't help your situation, but maybe someone out there can figure out why this keeps happening. Maybe it has something to do with the 32-bit drivers...:dontknow:

Make sure you try everything....use a different USB port (preferably one on the back that is connected directly to the motherboard), try a new USB cable, and it is imperative that you reboot both the phone and the PC after each failed attempt.

If the 64 bit drivers in the first post dont work for you, try the Pdanet installation. I had problems also and after I installed the Pdanet app on my pc it loaded the Samsung drivers and worked, Its worth a shot.

Here....

ya i got drivers loaded manually, it was the adb that was the issue. big thanx to gten for all the help. device manager will allow you to load adb driver from samsung driver folder manually.

I read somewhere else that if your phone is rooted you may not be able to receive ota updates. Is that true? Does that mean when Froyo comes out I have to flash a ROM to get it?

With the 2.2.4 root I got an OTA update and remained rooted through it..if you have a custom rom/kernal or removed apps then you will have to flash back to stock.

After rooting, I did a hard reset. Does the device stay rooted? or do I need to do it again? Is there an option on the settings or security menu that will show if the phone is rooted or not? thanks.

Re: Permanent root and one click root for the Samsung Epic 4g

I simply cannot get the 64 bit drivers to install/work.

After they install, I restart my computer..

When I plug my phone in, after windows tries to apply the drivers, it says failed.

I'm getting really frustrated.

I have Win7x64 Ultimate. Had a helluva time getting drivers to work properly for my samsung moment.

Re: Permanent root and one click root for the Samsung Epic 4g

When plugged in, go into Device Manager and click on the devices with an error next to them and choose to update drivers. Choose to pick them manually/Browse into the extracted zip of the drivers USB Drivers\16_Shrewsbury

It should install manually fine.

Re: Permanent root and one click root for the Samsung Epic 4g

I had that same problem - even before I'd rooted. Seems to be a common issue with 64-bit Windows 7 systems. I did a LOT of Googling, and one thing I saw over and over was to plug the cable directly into the back of the computer. The other oft-repeated suggestion was to try a better quality cable.

The thing that finally worked for me was to plug it into my hub rather than directly into the computer.

Your mileage may vary, but it might be worth a shot.

I browsed this thread (quickly) to see if anyone got the following error... I get this whether I try the one click with or without the SD card mounted:
http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/483/capturetmx.th.jpg

I have tried every USB port on 5 different pcs now, along with 2 cables (the one that came with the phone and the one that I got with a previous phone). All pcs are running Windows 7 64bit. I am using one click v2.2.5.

First, confirm 2 things..

1) Did 3/4 drivers install?

2) You are on DI18 and using 2.2.5?

also if you use pdanet dont let it install adb driver when it says"adb driver installed do you want to update driver" decline that keep driver w7 loaded.

2.2.6? So far only 2.2.4 and 2.2.5 existed..where did you get 2.2.6?

Also can you do one thing..open command prompt, navigate into the folder where your 1 click root is and type:

adb get-state

What is the last word? unkown or device

Here is where I got 2.2.6
xda-developers - View Single Post - One click root for the Epic 4G! v2.2.5 Now has superuser.apk!

I will try the adb get-state next...

If it is unkown you should reinstall your drivers.

ok if it comes back as unkown, do:

adb kill-server

(this will kill adb)

then go into device manager...locate the drivers that were not installed and choose to Browse and go to shrewberry folder (thats where drivers are)..after all of them are installed to the adb get-state again.

Checking device manager, there are no warnings or disabled. Everything shows as installed and functioning. If I unplug the phone and plug it back in all drivers show as installed and functioning except the CDC driver which is continually tries to install but never seems to complete (have had it going for 15min now)...

try this, unplug the device, and plug it back in to the same usb port..then look at the drivers and see if you can find CDC and install it manually. (sometimes it automatically install after unplugging lol)

unplugged it, plugged it back in. new hardware did not pop though I still don't see the samsung modem listed. ran adb get-state, this came back with device

so I ran the run.bat
which is giving this error
error: device not found

Did you look at the Device manager when you plugged it in?

I guess try this:

do:
adb kill-server

unplug phone, disable usb debugging...reset phone..enable usb debugging...plug back in to same port.

Think I have root access now, have done this whole thing before... for whatever reason it worked this time:

factory reset
wipe cache
cleared sd card
turned on debug
mounted sdcard
ran one click root, killed the smaller of the two adb processes

It seems to have run successfully I can get to # using adb

However, can't get clockworks to install now ;(

To everyone that is having trouble getting this to work the first time, don't give up. I had the same problems getting it to work but once I did, now it works perfectly every time. I have had to flash to stock and re root 3 times now and out works perfectly every time now. So don't think that it will always be like this. Its only a PITA the first time.

Since you were able to do a root on your phone eventually but on same usb port it doesn't work..

I would like to ask, a few things.

1) When using your phone as mass storage, you never experience any issues?

2) Do you have any apps installed or its pure stock at the moment?

I have no problems using the phone as mass storage, honestly haven't used it as such much. But when I have it has worked fine.

This was purely stock at the time.

However, I posted my issues at XDA as well and it was suggested I try entering all the lines in the bat manually. That worked, I got an error when trying to remove the last two files they they didn't exist. But I can successfully get to CKM using the 3 buttons and have since been trying out the different roms.

Thanks again for all the help!
