Argg! Im still unable to root... i think it may be windows 7 or driver related because i cant root my epic on 2.2.1 or my gf's tmobile galaxy. ive tried 2 to root on 2 compaq cq62 laptops, one running 64 bit, one running 32, both with the same issues... "phone not connected"... at least mass storage has worked on her phone sometimes, never seems to work on mine... any way i can root both of these without a computer? i read where someone said they used one click root with no computer but i havent been able to find instructions on how to do this...

1 installed samsung drivers and restarted pc and phone 2 plugged in epic 3 when it said installing drivers i clicked on it to see what drivers installed. samsung usb composite device, mobile modem, and mobile modem diagnostics serial all installed successfully. port (wdm) (com3) was still blank. when i go to device manager and go to the samsung usb composite device properties it shows 3 drivers, sscdbus.sys, sscdwh.sys, and sscdwhnt.sys. so i have no clue what the issue is here. hopefully the link you provided works for me. ill keep you posted. |

Re: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! Now has ClockworkMod!
After trying several things I finally got rooted! I tried oneclick root, didn't work, z4root didn't work, gingerbreak didn't work. The only thing that worked for me is using odin and flashing a pre rooted rom. First I odined a stock rom that was prerooted and included cwm 2.5 and realized I needed cwm 3.0 to use ext4 and newer roms (right?). So I found another prerooted stock rom that flashed cwm 3.0. While trying to update to cwm 3.0, my phone would no longer boot! I thought I bricked it so I kept flashing flashing until it booted lol. I was scared as hell but the phone finally booted into clockworkmod 3 and I installed syndicate frozen rom. Now all is well, I'm on my first custom rom!
Gten, I wouuld like your opinion on which rom to flash? When it comes to wm, I am a energyrom with dinik anastasia theme type of guy. Anyone have a android rom with similar eyecandy? I think timeberwolf is making themes with similar icons :) |
Re: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! Now has ClockworkMod!
if your on syndicate frozen I would suggest flashing Journaling ON, and Genocide kernel..
if you want best rom overall..here is my question, do you want a Gignerbread Rom or a Froyo Rom? |

what are the advantages of the genocide rom over the twilight? |

Gingerbread is android 2.3, Froyo is 2.2..with 2.2 we have more customizations as we have source code and more development has been doen to tweak it...2.3 is the bleeding edge which offers new stuff at the price of "some" stability and development..depending on your usage... Genocide kernel is not a rom, its a kernel..in winmo we had kernels built into the roms, but in android we can flash them separately if we choose to..overall I jsut found Genocide more stable, has more new features(due to the kernel being newer), and it allows for under-clocking. |

o ok, im learning and understanding more and more everyday thanks! yea i think id rather stick with 2.2 right now until im more familiar with android. i meant genocide kernel not rom lol. i downloaded it yesterday morning but never flashed it. the creator is working on a new kernel as well, wont be long before a beta version im guessing. now im off to skim the kernel thread again and flash it. what do i use to undervolt? is it necessary? ive been using setcpu on "conservative" to oc. while reading the geno kernel yesterday i remember him saying something about some other app thats better than setcpu but it all sounded like one big complication to me. lol |
Re: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! Now has ClockworkMod!
From what people are saying SetCPU does not work well..there is Voltage Control and forgot the other on but it has pimp in the name :/...
UV = under volting aka gives you better battery life.. OC = overclock, makes our CPU run faster (often time requires more energy) |

EDIT: I seem to have everything running nicely, was pretty simple too. ive got ACS Frozen w/journaling. TW671 blue glass theme that i modded just a bit Genocide kernel OC'd to 1.2Ghz. UV'd -100mV in the 100-800Mhz range and UV'd -50mV in the 1Ghz - 1.2Ghz range. so far everything is running just fine, snappy, no force closes or anything. oh yea and its pretty too lol. im pretty satisfied. now that i have a nice rom, tweaked kernel, and eye candy, im off to see what else i can play around with. thats after i make a backup with cwm of course. ;) o, i almost forgot! one issue i need to look into is the wifi router app. when i try and use it, my phone reboots... so im off to look into that first. |
Re: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! Now has ClockworkMod!
if you don't need inferstructure tethering use the version thats on the Android market (aka 2.x, not 3.x), IF you nee 3.0, clear app data and see..
As for your UV settings..thats a bit aggressive as a start lol..(not saying that they are not possible as I had higher UV settings on my config)..but usually you want t odo aroudn 25mV per frequency and then see if phone is stable for a few hours (aka no freezes)..and you keep upping by 25mV until you get a freeze, then lower the settings on the frequency wich caused the freeze and so on till you get the best settings...every phone undervolts differently.. |
Re: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! Now has ClockworkMod!
Wireless tether 2.0.7 works fine! I'm using voltage control. I have every stage set to -50 for right now. Ill play around with it for a while

Or if rooting is what your after there is also another thing you can try, putting your phone in download mode and using odin....with odin you can flash a pre-rooted rom. |

as for odin download here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/2077357-post2.html you can enter download mode by turning off the phone then hold 1 key and turn it on. IF odin is running and you plug in, odin should glow green..dont flash anything yet..lets first see if odin recognizes your phone...if it glows green it did. |
