Re: [ROM] midNIGHT ROM v3.3 BYOR and Pre-Built AIO (VERY COOL) 2/14/2011

Quick question... I installed 3.3 and the Standard Pack, as well as Handcent SMS as my messaging app... if I am understanding prior posts, does this mean that I cannot currently receive MMS messages or am I OK? Do I have to uninstall Handcent and flash stock?

Thanks

Good question and here the best answer I got. I appears you need the stock mms app in order for handcent or go sms to notify u of new texts. You also need it to notify you of new voicemails if you use sprint vm. The messages appear fine just no notification. The problem is that "some" people seem to have the reboot issue and it appears to be tied to the mms.apk. I personally have not seen this and can't reproduce it. Its isolated to certain phones it seems.
So its up to u what you do. I personally use the stock mms with no problems.

I've done a lot of testing on this, and what I found is that if you want to use Handcent, you should install the stock app through recovery, then install the Handcent from the market. When I tried to install Handcent through recovery, I was getting tons of restarts.

When I installed Go SMS only without the Stock MMS, I wouldn't receive texts and they would never appear in my inbox. The phone would flicker like if I got the message, but there was no way to see it.

Well you do have to remove Gmail and Email apps cause it gets installed with the standard.zip flash, but yes I do the same and remove Gmail.apk only.

That is correct, you MUST have a version of the stock mms app installed. My suggestion would be to use Go SMS from the market. You will still get the 2 notifications, but it should reduce restart issues.

Turn off notifications on the stock app and you won't get double notifications. Make sure auto retrieve is on. I've had no restarts or problems using this setup.
