Re: midNIGHT ROM v2.8 EXT4/RFS (4 Builds) 1/10/2011

so almost everything was fine, except not being able to zoom on my picture mail with the stock messaging, then I reboot my phone today and everything that I installed was gone! All my widgets and apps, all other data like my text messages were fine...

anyone know what would cause this?

Odin back to stock dk28, Run the proper one click root, then flash the rom.

New one click root & recovery: [MOD] Ported Clockwork Mod version 3.0.0.5 [READ OP CAREFULLY!][RELEASED!] - xda-developers

Old version: One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! v2.5.5 Now has ClockworkMod Redirector! - xda-developers

If you run the new version it will automatically format the phone in ext4.

Re: midNIGHT ROM v2.8 EXT4/RFS (4 Builds) 1/10/2011

I'm beginning to see a trend with EXT4 causing a boot loop. With the Epic 4g designed around the RPS file system, trying to implement the EXT4 file system seems to have me swimming upstream. Each time I flash one of the EXT4 ROMs, as soon as a backup is restored or a new app is installed, things begin to go awry and I get the boot loop. My plan is to use the RPS version for a while until I see how to avoid this glitch. What do you think?

What do you mean by a backup is restored or a new app is installed? Are you talking about while in Clockwork or inside the OS? Did you start from a stock ODIN flash before you started to use CW3?

No problem here with EXT4. I do my backup and restore of apps with Titanium Backup and haven't had a single problem. The only issue I see with EXT4 is the battery life not lasting like before, but everything else is great.

If you are getting the boot loop it's because you are not following the process. I've had the boot loop as well, but it'd because I missed something in the rooting/flashing process.

See my post above or the 1st post in this thread. Also check the link I posted earlier.

Yes, stock ODIN flash DK28. Then CWM3 and preparatory flushes, then 2.8 ROM. CWM3 reinstalls some of my SD apps in the process. This last boot loop was when one of those CWM3 reinstalled app insisted on an update and all seemed well until I rebooted into the boot loop.

Are all the zips you are trying to install the edify zips? What app is causing the issue?

Re: midNIGHT ROM v2.8 EXT4/RFS (4 Builds) 1/10/2011

Don't think so. Most zips are NOT edify and that's where the problem starts I'm sure. That is where the problem started and the Market served up a non-edify update. What is peculiar to me is that some of my saved apps, when restored by CWM3, act right. I need to experiment here to be sure. In the meantime I though I'd try the RPS releases until I can get it sorted out.
