Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)

well played with it in 2 different stores, talked to a bunch of sales rep who really weren't trained and gave pat answers that prooved it. When I asked can it sync with Oulook, the response was absolutely. When asked how, the mumbled stuff. Bottom line, if you are usign outlook with pop and not an exchange server, there is nothing out there like windows mobile/active sync. You need some 3rd party software, and gmail to sync at best contacts and calendars only, and I'm not sure that works 100%. yes its done wirelessly which is great, but there are severe limitations. I've checked on android forums and others as well, seems to be a consistant issue and no one is sure why. Looks like there are some people out there working on complete solutions, so beware....or tell me I'm wrong.

Could I do that to be able to get a new phone at upgrade price, and just suck up the 9.99 extra a month for two years? Since I wouldnt be using my Omnia anymore, I would cancel the 30 dollar data plan on the line I have now, since I know I would have to add it to whatever new phone I get. Am I calculating all this correctly, or living in lala land lol
you can only have 5 lines on a family plan.
i added a 5th line for my Dare about midway through a contract so i have a line come up every year. its worth the $9.99 a month and have a spare i use for calling folks i dont want to know my number and also for family members who need a phone for a brief time instead of buying a contract or prepay on a tightly fixed income

You can add a line then have the new phone transferred over to your current line. Then activate an older feature phone on the new line. That's what I did for this go around and I gave the feature phone to my older son (needless to say he is a happy camper ).

This worked best for me as I don't loose my phone number and I get the low price for the Droid.

Google will sync with Outlook. No third party software needed.

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)

Is there any truth with the storage of apps on the driod? I heard that programs can only be installed on the internal RAM (512?) and not the 16 GB storage, the storage is only for the movies and Mp3s. Also without the sling player android is a big no no for me, I'd give it another year to mature and it might become a winner.

This is correct. Most apps though are under a MB and the ones that are larger can usually store the data on the storage card. In the end you can put a whole lot on your phone before you run in to any problems.

"According to the iphoneblog, Apple is making a smaller, CDMA compatible “World Phone” for Verizon. It is supposed to arrive Q3 of 2010, but may be later."

I might have to wait on my upgrade even longer...

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)

Thanks guys for all the answers. Arggh, I just realized we already have 5 lines on our plan, so I guess that extra line is out of the question. Darn it! The weird thing is that I have heard from several sources that the main line on a family plan is entitled to an upgrade once a year, but when I checked the main line on My Verizon, it just shows the New Every Two Status, and when I pretended to upgrade the phone through the site, it gave me no discount option. A year would have passed in August 2009 on that line. Also, I remember my mom getting a letter from Verizon around August stating that she can upgrade at discount pricing, but we didnt pay attention to it at that time. I guess if I call I have a feeling they will most likely say that I can upgrade that line, I just wish they would show it online so I wouldnt have to call customer service.

Anyway, Im making such a big deal about all this when I cant even really afford to spend 200 bucks anyway, with christmas coming up and my son's christmas list being about a mile long lol. I am just SO frustrated at not being able to have a newer phone, it's an obsession for me.

By the way, I know alot of people already know this, but if you choose a 1 year contract with upgrade pricing, the Droid only goes up by like 30 bucks. For 30 bucks more, you can upgrade at discount pricing in a year, and we all know in a year we are going to be obsessing over something new. If I were able to upgrade right now, I would definitely pay the 230 to be able to upgrade again in 10 months
