Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)
Thanks guys for all the answers. Arggh, I just realized we already have 5 lines on our plan, so I guess that extra line is out of the question. Darn it! The weird thing is that I have heard from several sources that the main line on a family plan is entitled to an upgrade once a year, but when I checked the main line on My Verizon, it just shows the New Every Two Status, and when I pretended to upgrade the phone through the site, it gave me no discount option. A year would have passed in August 2009 on that line. Also, I remember my mom getting a letter from Verizon around August stating that she can upgrade at discount pricing, but we didnt pay attention to it at that time. I guess if I call I have a feeling they will most likely say that I can upgrade that line, I just wish they would show it online so I wouldnt have to call customer service.
Anyway, Im making such a big deal about all this when I cant even really afford to spend 200 bucks anyway, with christmas coming up and my son's christmas list being about a mile long lol. I am just SO frustrated at not being able to have a newer phone, it's an obsession for me. By the way, I know alot of people already know this, but if you choose a 1 year contract with upgrade pricing, the Droid only goes up by like 30 bucks. For 30 bucks more, you can upgrade at discount pricing in a year, and we all know in a year we are going to be obsessing over something new. If I were able to upgrade right now, I would definitely pay the 230 to be able to upgrade again in 10 months

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)
I know they are different, I just hate that all they show you online is NE2. It never shows just regular upgrade availability on it like on the other lines. Maybe it's not on all accounts, I havent heard of anyone having this problem, I dont know why just ours has it

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)
With a plan like your Solange, your main line may be on the VIP program--eligible for upgrades after a year AND a $50 discount off promo pricing. Call to find out.

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)
Sorry if this is being repetitive, but just to clear any doubt up: you can actually upgrade yearly on any Verizon plan. You get the advertised pricing, but you have to pay a $20 upgrade fee. If you wait for two years there's no upgrade fee, and if you are the main line (or only line) then you get an additional $50 off (although Verizon has dropped it to $30 if you have a newer contract, at least that's what the rep told me). Also, you can only do the yearly upgrade through Verizon (in-store or online), which I learned when I tried to get my Droid from Best Buy to avoid the mail-in rebate junk.
Also, about Android only allowing you to install apps to the internal memory: yes, it is true, but as Blazingwolf mentioned most apps are really small (MUCH smaller on average than Windows Mobile apps). I've already installed a ton of apps/games on my phone and I've only used around 80MB of storage, so I really don't see it being a problem. And just for clarification, although it does have 512MB of storage you can only use about 256MB of that for storing apps. Once again, I really don't think it's going to be a problem. The only thing this phone is lacking is...wait...ummmmmm...still thinking...uhhhhh...well, I can't think of anything |

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)
Every year??? Are you serious? WTF, Ive been suffering for so long for nothing lol? I guess it's their unofficial policy, and it helps them by locking you in another two years. Interesting, thank you Rolijen and Nerdherd for the info!

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)
By the way, I was just checking the resale value of the Omnia on ebay, and it is measely lol. You'd be lucky to get 100 bucks for it! Oh well, that's half the price of a Droid

It's a better phone, plain and simple. All other bells/whistles/apps aside. The phone is better.

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)
So i got an email from verizon saying that i can upgrade early and the droid eris is pictured in the email along with the imagio and the env3. When i goto thesit it asks for my number and zipcode. i put them in and it asks me to choose a plan. after you oick a plan the phones come up. i pick a pda plan and no phones appear, but if i choose a regualar plan or a bb plan it works. I think verizon needs some new web developers. anyway i looked at the droid in the store yesterday and i was very impressed at how fluid the screen movement was. hopefully by the time i get my real upgrade in january the price will drop
