Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)

Believe the hype my friends. I too love winmo and have pretty much flashed and customized my omnia to no end. But let me tell you, the Droid is pretty amazing. Right out of the box you know this phone is gonna blow your mind. Easy email setup, full customization possibilities just as winmo. Plugged in to pc, mounted, and synced up music library in minutes. Tested google nav on the way home, AMAZING. The nav blows away every gps app I've ever tried. Browser with webkit engine, forget about it, loads up in seconds. Apps and more apps. I can go on and on. Best bet is to find a friend who has one or get over to the vzw store and test out this beast. It's gonna keep me pleasantly occupied, at least until the Omnia2 drops.

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)

I picked up a Droid today also. Must say that I like it so far. Much nicer then I expected and the sound it puts out is simply awesome. I have 30 days to decide if I want to give it back but right now I'm pretty happy with it.

I have fought off the urge/compulsion/need awaiting the Omnia2 but I am soooooo tempted. I talked to someone yesterday who says the Droid feels about the same thickness as the omnia in your hand but a little heavier. I usually carry my Omnia in my shirt pocket. Will the Droid tear off my pocket or do you think it's reasonably light?

Thanks.

The Droid is very close to the same size as the Omnia. Main difference is in weight. I don't think it will rip your pocket off but I do think you will notice a bit more pull to it.

Thanks! I bit the bullet and got a Droid this afternoon. It's a great size. My wife upgraded her HTV Vogue to the HTC Droid Eris. Also a really cool phone.

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)

Sorry if this seems like too personal a question, but how do so many of you guys upgrade phones so quickly? The Omnia hasnt even been out two years? Are you all paying full price? I was thinking, I am part of a family plan with my mom, my two brothers, and my 9 year old son, it would be just 9.99 a month to add a new line. Could I do that to be able to get a new phone at upgrade price, and just suck up the 9.99 extra a month for two years? Since I wouldnt be using my Omnia anymore, I would cancel the 30 dollar data plan on the line I have now, since I know I would have to add it to whatever new phone I get. Am I calculating all this correctly, or living in lala land lol

well i got my i910(got it from ebay brand new for 295) in feb of 09 comin from a xv6700. i usually upgrade my phones every year or so. but im at my 10 month upgrade point at VZW so im just tryin to hold in for the O2.

as far as the upgrade. you can add the line for 9.99 BUT that wont be the monthly price for the 2 years. you will have to pay for the plan you choose. which is 39.99(the lowest). so really i dont think its going to be worth it in my opinion for your situation. just try and wait off for the update plan. if your on a 1 year contract, the upgrade date is after 10 months where you start getting discounts. if your on 2 years its after 20 months.(at least thats what it is for me)

if you plan on upgrading your phone keep the data plan if you want to use it on the new phone

Re: For those about to defect to Droid (or android)

Thanks for the response. How are you able to get upgrade pricing every year? Is that basically by paying a little bit more for your phone up front, but choosing a 1 year contract for the phone instead of 2 year?

Im confused about the 39.99 minimum plan though. We share all our minutes, which is why I thought the 9.99 for another line to share those minutes came in. Isnt that what the 9.99 means? Why would I have to get a minute plan if Im paying the 9.99 to use the minutes that my main phone is paying for? Or am I misunderstanding the whole thing?

sorry the 39.99 minimum was for a single line. for family, depending how you set it up. im guessing its all split up. so due to my misunderstanding you could add the line for 9.99 and just pay the little portion that the "non user" line would have.. for example

for example if your plan is 60 you would split it

mom: 9.99
brother 1: 9.99
brother 2: 9.99
son: 9.99
you: 9.99
non-user:9.99

so it would most likely be whatever you pay now + your son + the fake user.

so yes you can add the extra line. when you add the line and get a new phone you might have to switch it online. so you get the new phone and the fake user will have the i910

as far as upgrade goes i guess it varies per client. as i was sayin for me they said i could upgrade on Nov 1st since i been a customer for 10 months. the catch is if i want to get the phone real cheap i would have to sign 2 years(which i dont mind) im guessin the O2 will only cost me 199.99 on 2 years which is great. if i go month to month they will make me pay full price which im sure will be close to 6 or 7 hundred. then in Sept 2010 they said i could upgrade again because of the every 2 program, which is pretty cool. so i guess it depends.
