Problem updating

Hey all, I decided to try flashing my phone with the new official ROM from verizon. I download the tool and followed the instructions at http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/...0&AT_ID=157998. I got to step 3, part 7, where it says to "Please wait while the device is restarted." My device restarted, but nothing is happening. The upgrade tool is still sitting on the "Please wait" screen. It's been there for about 10 minutes now. I don't want to unhook or anything, but from what I can tell my phone is on and nothing has changed (I use SPB and it is still there). Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm wondering if I can just soft reset the phone to get to the next step...
Thanks.

Edit: I should add that when the phone restarted, I got the message "problem installing hardware" from windows that you sometimes get when you hook up new hardware through USB.

Re: Problem updating

Tried a soft reset...no change. When I try to shut down the program it warns me that my phone might become inoperable! Please let me know what I can do here! Thanks.

Re: Problem updating

Did you make sure the Allow USB connections was UNchecked in Active Sync or WMDC??

It was unchecked...good news is that after spending an hour on the phone with Samsung I now have CF03 installed.
Thanks for the help though.

Well, the phone didn't actually do any updating. So, they had me unhook it from the computer and do a hard reset to take it back to factory. Then I ran the updater again (starting at step 3 since I didn't need to back anything up) with no problems.

Edit: After hard resetting I only had to align the screen. I skipped the other parts and then ran the update.

Re: Problem updating

I'm having this same problem, almost word for word like you did. The Upgrade Tool would be stuck on the Restart Device stage, waiting for my device to restart, while my phone is sitting on my desk and completely booted up. I also had the problem with after the phone restarting my computer found a new hardware device, but I didn't remember a CD to install anything so I plugged in one of VZW's CDs and after that didn't work I told the wizard to stop bothering me.

I performed a hard reset like you did, and still stuck at the same problem. I called Samsung but now they want me to call back on Monday when they will upgrade me to Stage 3, since nothing they tell me is working...not that they've told me anything.

I'm running Windows XP with the latest SP, and my phone is flashed to the CC20 ROM. I backed up everything on Active Sync when they told me to, so Allow USB Connections was checked, but after that step the Upgrade Tool seems to automagically uncheck it for me.

I have no clue what to do next, now my phone is bone stock and ugly and I have to wait until Monday to call back, which probably won't do anything. Does anyone have any advice in the meantime? Thanks in advance.

Re: Problem updating

Didn't think to do that, wouldn't I need a .IMG file though? I've only come upon the .EXE Upgrade Tool.
