Re: GPS SOFTWARE after ROM Upgrade

The first time I used my GPS after the Official update, the GPS was fast and accurate (I got signals right away.) Every time after that it has taken several minutes to get a signal.

Has this been the case with others? Does it work better with Tom Tom or VZ Nav?

Are you talking about CF03? By "every time after that" do you mean i910 ROMs or just GPS fixes?

It would not surprise me to find that VZW is attempting to enhance VZNav and degrade other GPS apps. I get the impression my Omnia got faster/more accurate fixes with CC20. Just a feeling, though. It's probably because I was using GPSToggle with WM6.1. Always just a warm start away . . .

Do you have any issues getting it to see GPS with AMAZE? I get a lock with google maps with like 4-6 satellites, but when I launch AMAZE it states finding satelites...or can't find satelites.

Do I need to prime it with opening Google maps first?

Re: GPS SOFTWARE after ROM Upgrade

I currently use the Garmin XT and GPS Today. I use the GPS Today as my day to day speedometer (dash speedometer doesn't work) and the Garmin for plotting routes. The only issue that I have is the Garmin trip computer doesn't work in the landscape mode. As far as getting a lock I only have an issue when I don't use the GPS for a couple of days.

Question Re: GPS SOFTWARE after ROM Upgrade

Greetings folks! This is my first post here

I need some help. I am NOT tech savvy, so please have pity, rather than scorn me O_o .

I'm not totally computer illiterate, but it would be REALLY nice if someone could give simple, easy, step by step instructions on how I can download and install a good, free, GPS product similar to VZ navigator. I have the Omnia 910 that I got 6 weeks ago, and will install the unlock tonight, but I am afraid to attempt any install of a GPS program without simple, idiot proof directions.

I heard this site had the smartest tech guru's on the planet (a little sucking up never hurt ) and that if anyone could help me, you guys can!!

Thanks in advance!

amAzeGPS is free and will do what VZNnav does. It's a little buggy but once you get a GPS lock (which can be a pain) it's nice. I use Bing, it's free and you can search for stuff with your voice. It only has a map view, as if looking down on the map with a highlighted line to guide you. It doesn't do voice navigation, but it will beep before a turn to let you know to look at the map. It will also reroute if you mess up. GoogleMaps will utilize the GPS also but will not notify you of turns and wont automatically reroute you. I put a tutorial up a while back for using bing. The tutorial is for live search, but bing is the new name for it. Go to www.mobile.msn.com in your browser to download it.
Here is the tutorial

Re: GPS SOFTWARE after ROM Upgrade

I use amAze and have VZ Nav as well. Both are roughly the same in terms of function and accuracy. amAze works best with GPS Toggle to intiate the lock first as it does not seem to manage GPS initiation as well as VZ Nav does but given the price difference ...

That's correct. You have to prime it with some other GPS-enabled application before opening it. I've found that Google Maps works well for priming other GPS-enabled applications, although I've also have great success with GPSViewer (contained within Harty457's ROM on Modaco) as a "primer" application.

amAzeGPS works very nicely, although it can be a bit awkward to enter addresses and, at least in Arizona, the "Find" feature is useless.
