I do like igo 8 a lot better than garmin.... mainly because it is faster to load....

if garmin were faster,i would prefer them because of the extra live features that they have like traffic, weather, etc
im using ocn8 and building veiws are amazing ill try to post some flix only thing sux about ocn8 is the fact that you have to use there sd card which is only 2g and concidering the program uses more then half of that heres a cool site for themes and voices buildings ect its for igo but can be used on ocn http://artwork-igo8.blogspot.com/2008/05/skins.html if you have igo8 use igo 8 themes ect if you have 8.3 use 8.3 themes ect hope its ok to post that site if not you can pm me

Those screenshots were a little too "busy" for me. Any way to tone it down a bit? Especially the stuff around the perimeter of the view?

I just downloaded the trial version. I haven't loaded it yet so I can't post any sort of review. What gets me is the "feature limited" trial. I don't mind spending $60 if this truly does what I need but how will I know if they limited out the features I want to test?

This says a lot for testing via torrent or warez. I've never loaded anything from either but there are a couple of good reasons to do so when it comes to GPS apps. First and foremost is the separate µSD or µSDHC card. It wouldn't be so bad with some phones' two ports (or even the hot-swap port on my LG VX8600) but yank the battery every time I want to use the app?

If it were convenient I would do as the doc and test them all then buy the one I like the best but actually use the pirate version on my 16GB µSDHC. That should cover me with the guy upstairs.

I need GPS outside of VZW coverage (Lake Sam Rayburn area). It's one of the reasons I hated VZNavigator. No sigee no workee.

I'm going to the lake tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how it did for me (if I can download the maps before I lose coverage).

Re: Best GPS Navigation system for Omnia with unlocked GPS

Everybody has their preferences but I already had Live Search so just tried doing a route. in menu hit gps and the screen updates it has the turn by turn directions at the bottom, it has a beep about 150 ft from turn and then it beeps at the turn. If you go off course it will ask you if you want to recalculate.
I've been using Live Search since day one and now with GPS unlocked it has given new purpose to that already amazing software that is free. And to be truthful I have a full size Garmin that has snagged me up more than once. With Live Search you have the actual aerial view to identify roads, buildings and other landmarks to verify your route.
just a note: "locate me" does not seem to work on the home screen. Under new location you can select "find with GPS" or if you are in map view, in menu you can use locate me with GPS.

This "feature limited" thing is severely handicapped. No downloading maps, no navigation (simulations only), no TTS.

Like a fool, I went ahead and paid for it but I still don't have the registration code. Says the link will be emailed. It's been almost 12 hours. Now I'm thinking of contacting the bank.

Logged on to my bank and no funds transferred as of yet. Thinking of stopping the transaction but I'll give it a few more hours.

In the meantime here is a thread (Is "Google Navigator" product a fraud? ) discussing it over at Google Groups.

Ever tried it standalone? With no signal coverage?

Re: Best GPS Navigation system for Omnia with unlocked GPS

Here is a link to a review of 3 free GPS apps.
http://grcadden.googlepages.com/freewaregpsreview

AmazeGPS gives you a cab which takes you to their site, and lets you choose a real CAB for the Omnia 900, which seems to work.

Nav4All www.nav4all.com/install required a soft reset before it would install. It also seems to be a cab which takes you elsewhere to get the real installation CAB. Stuck with data connection issues.

MGMaps http://wap.mgmaps.com/index-all.html installs with a .jar program, and seems to work as well.

Re: Best GPS Navigation system for Omnia with unlocked GPS

I'm a fan of iGO8 (used TT7, Garmin XT, Copilot, Route66, iGuidance). Even though you can use different skins to your liking, it is a little busy with features and whatnot. Recently tested iGO Amigo and really like it. I'm not a heavy GPS user so it had just enough features for me. Main menu is similiar to iGO8 simple mode. Navigation screen is cleaner without the extra info iGO8 displays (just current turn, next turn, street and distance w/ time left & arrival toggle). Very clean and simple. Tons of screens on their site to compare: http://www.i-go.com/amigo/

i tried amigo and preferred the older version of igo 8. Amigo didnt have some of the advanced features that the other one had and it also kept turning off the screen whereas the other igo version stayed on....
