Both browsers are a problem but I guess I see issues more with IE. The main problem is the inconsistency of when the device scrolls or selects things on the screen. For instance if I do a Google search for "WM6 Keyboard" I get like thousands of hits. I have Google set to display 20 at a time. So now I want to scroll down the list of hits reading the preview text of each site. It is very difficult to do this. Sometimes it will scroll down. Other time it will select the closed hyperlink and jump to that page. When I am ready to select the hyper-link I seem to have a great deal of difficulty getting it to actually select anything. This is not only a problem with the browser but also the Programs list from the Main Menu. Many times when trying to scroll down it will select and launch a program. Other time it just flys down to the bottom of the list. I must be missing something on how to do the scroll thing!! I am sure as many users as there are if this was a common problem there would be tons of complaints. I realize it sounds like I am making excuses. I am really not trying to. I am just giving my honest feed back so that the responces I get have a chance of helping. With only 30 days to try before you can send it back it only makes sense to at least touch working devices to make a best guess before the initial order. Re: Thinking of dumping my I910 for a Blackberry
Make the scrollbars wider and use them instead.
Problem solved. Not elegant, but very effective. |

Re: Thinking of dumping my I910 for a Blackberry
The hack I have for that does not really make a huge difference. It increases the size like 2 pixels or something. I still end up using my finger nail. Which works but like you said not very elegant. I suppose I could manually edit the key and make it even bigger.
But that really does not address the main issue of how it is supposed to work. There should be a delay of some kind where my finger does not move for 1/2 a second or so before a select occurrs, otherwise the screen should scroll in the direction and amount of movement. I mean come on we all know this is supposed to mimic the iphone interface. I have played with them and have never had the problem of selecting when I want to scroll. Now before someone suggest I just go and get an iphone... no thanks. apple can byte my winflag .... I will stick with WinMo so I can develop easier. |

Re: Thinking of dumping my I910 for a Blackberry
How big do you want them? They can get very wide.
While some of it is iPhone-esque, I don't think its mimicking it at all. The real solution is for someone to get smart and institute a tap to select, hold to scroll, double tap to execute. Problem completely solved. They wouldn't even have to change much. That said, I don't have a problem launching the wrong app while scrolling. Last edited by Adrynalyne; 04-04-2009 at 12:45 AM. |

Re: Thinking of dumping my I910 for a Blackberry
Anthrax I know where your coming from with the TS keyboard. i recently switched from a BB Curve to the Omnia and after about a month i was ready to go back all based off the ts typing. then i started using the samsung keypad with xt9 instead of the keyboard and all of a sudden i was typing faster than on my curve. the only issues with it are adding new words and it doesnt work with Iris browser for whatever reason. For that i just use the finger keyboard with the skin made by Adrynalyne. using two keyboards can be hard to get used to but the keypad is by far the fastest and most accurate ive used.

Re: Thinking of dumping my I910 for a Blackberry
okay...I understand...well adrynalyne, has the best "solution" to that problem, personally I still use my stylus for pie, and scrolling on screens that aren't finger friendly...
that happens to me occasionally with Opera, but because it doesn't have full flash capabilities yet I don't use it too much... I also ran into this when scrolling thru my Call Log but I got used to it and it doesn't happen anymore....which brings me back to my original point...30 days is not enough time to fully get accustomed to the Omnia's quirks and minor issues... It bothers me not cuz I'm an Omnia lover..but because so many people come to the forum....complain, complain, complain we bend over backwards many times repeating for the 20th time the same things, just so 30 days later they can go get the Blackberry, or whatever other phone they run to... I'm always willing to help but it would be nice to see some people stick around after all the help we given... |

And that is why I ask. I really want to stick with this phone. It has so many cool features and with new programs coming out daily the flexibility is un-matched. I apologize for making you repeated some advice again, however I have not found too many threads dealing with the scroll/select problem that I have been dealing with. So I ask... and I am very grateful for all the feedback I have been given. I have already made some adjustments to the device with FavHacks, as well as just being more patient and precise with my finger. I may try the xt9 keyboard again and see how it compares to FingerKey. |
