I find the battery monitors don't really give accurate measurments. Even the OS one seems pretty vague. I don't think I have ever seen an incriment other than 20!! Not sure why, I think Samsung changed the reporting system dramatically on the Omnia somehow.

Yeah... the battery monitor isn't all that great. I learned THAT little tidbit today. I still hadn't plugged in the phone from yesterday. It was at 80% when I woke up this morning. I had a 30 minute phone call, surfed the web for 10 minutes, and played about 30 minutes worth of games. That took it down to 60%.

This afternoon, it went from 60% to 20% with just a 2 minute phone call!!!

ME THINKS THE BATTERY MONITOR IS A LITTLE OFF!

I have been doing a little reading on Lithium Ion batteries. I found this statement about charge cycles and fuel gauges. I understand many may not have hit the 30 mark yet but may still be encountering the problem. Just a thought.

"Batteries with fuel gauge (laptops) should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely"

Interesting statement. I know in the old "non lithium ion" days, you were supposed to "condition" the batteries by charging completely, then deplete the battery, then charge, then deplete, etc. I have never heard of doing this on the newer battieries. I wonder what the logic behind it is. Can you post a working link to the source you listed. For some reason, I can't access it.

What about any of the third party battery gauges that go in incriments of 5 or 10%. Do they offer a better reading or is it still as unaccurate as the standard one that comes with the phone?

I can understand the theory of fully discharging + recharging a battery as a means of calibrating the guage, as it makes sense that a guage can keep better track of something if it knows the standard 'capabilities' of the item it is tracking, but I don't think that applies here because EVERYONE sees this, it isn't a select few. I am sure a lot of us have run the batteries down, and haven't seen any change in the meter.That being said, it does sound like an interesting experiment (I have been known to be wrong on occasion) if anyone has time. If you do, please report, a lot of interested parties here!!

hop2000...I haven't seen any meter give more accurate readings. I have tried SPB, RESCO, vista bar, and S2U2 and they all vige very vague 'estimates'. I don't let it bother me because I have no problems with my battery life, I would like a better idea of where I am with it, but it hasn't let me down yet!!!

Just since this thread has gone towards the battery topic, I'll throw this out there- Has anyone figured out a way to turn off the "Low Battery" alert noise on this phone? I work on film sets, and CAN'T have my phone beeping at me in the middle of a take. I've turned the sound to off, gone into sounds and notifications, turned everything off there, but this phone STILL beeps that low battery alert!! I've heard the "record the sound of silence and replace the sound file" trick, thinking about trying that. When I first read of that trick, it was in the context of the full charge alert, and it applied to the sound files "Alarm2" and "Notify"....Anyone recognize what sound file is the one playing for the low battery alert?
