Spacer

http://www.pocketmax.net/

It is a blank spacer so that you can space out your today items per your preference. It has separate pixel heights for landscape and portrait.

Just import OctaneMS_SamsungBT.reg file into your phone's registry.

Has anyone tried this?? I'm reluctant to import a reg file. I looked at the file and it creates some directories that aren't there already. Anybody have any thoughts?

Those are enhancements made by soundtester.exe in \Windows. It cant hurt to try it, if it cuases issue, simply delete HKLM\SAMSUNG. Backing up is always a good idea, of course.

Is this similar to the MoDaCo OmniaSIP? I tried out the nuesliding app and it DID NOT work for me at all. The Omnia SIP works, but it does fail sometimes. Not a big deal, but a soft reset and resetting of portriat/landscape SIP settings is sometimes required. If this is a more stable version of that, I would be very happy. Let me know.

Adrynalyne 02-07-2009 01:05 AM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

No, rotationservice allows you to control which apps will use the motion sensor, and switch to landscape. It works on a per application basis.

As for Omnia SIP, I hear ya. I stopped using it because I dont like soft resetting all the time.

increase SMS/MMS space!

When using threaded messaging, it only gives you a small area to see your text between above messages and the keyboard. You can increase this by copying this file to \Windows.

Unzip and copy it, using something like resco.

As for WMWifiRouter, I will get back to you on it when I have more time. Yes, it works with VZW.

Has anyone figured out how to make that Fugly clock look better? I know there are two default choices, but can we turn it into a flip clock or maybe an analog clock (perhaps with opacity)?

That would be sweet!

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Hey I don't know if anyone has tried this, I stumbled on it by accident, but I was noticing that I wasn't getting very good battery life/performance I would use the internet for about 20 mins and I was already down to 80% and my the end of my 8hr day i'd be down to 60%, then I would get a phone call and "low battery warning" so I started to look into getting another battery that was 1500mah and only 19.99

so I put my phone to charge last nite and just out of curiosity I wanted to see the capacity of my battery, i removed my battery my phone while it was plugged in, and when I put the battery back on and then I saw an animated battery meter, showing my phone was charging...I didn't need the phone so I left the phone off and let it charge...I wasn't able to let it charge completely, so at 3:15am, yes A.M. I unplugged it and when i used my phone today I used the internet for about 45 mins to an hour, and it still showed 100% about 20 text messages and 6hrs later it dropped to 80% and stayed at 80% till about 7pm was on the phone for about an hour down to 60% and still going...

I dont think I need to do this every night, but if anyone was having battery life issues u may want to try this at least once and see if it improves.

Sync your contacts and calendar with Google online, instantly using licensed Exchange tech from MS.

Shame it won't do Email, too in the same manner. Maybe later, as its still beta.

Good luck with this. They went live with Google Sync yesterday,and judging by the posts/comments on Gizmodo, Engadget, Lifehacker, et al, it's been a big "booooo..." Fairly typical of Google to release something long before it's ready and just make the excuse "Hey... it's beta."

Evidently even if you do get it working, it will only sync 5 calendars, while NuevaSync.com syncs up to eight; so I'm sticking with NuevaSync.com until Google gets their s**t together.

I am using it since it launched. Not a problem.

Put in server name, username and password and off I went.

I switched from Thumbcal to Calendar Touch though because for whatever reasons, Thumbcal is causing me sync problems with how it enters data into the calendar.

Painless. Aside from the battery drain, of course.

I'm just getting started with and so far love my Omnia, with a few exceptions (mostly my Vista problems, not the device). Ist post helped and I'm gonna keep reading. Thanks for starting this. Kinda missing my slide out keyboard from XV6800. Hopefully with these tips I can be a pro at this in no time.

Screen sensitvity has been talked about a lot, and I ran across this just last night, so I haven't tried it out yet (I am waiting until I have time to work)!! As with any reg setting, I suggest doing a backup first, or keeping the old settings someplace for 'fixing' any possible problems no tweak is guaranteed to work, or not cause issues on your device, like anything else, they are at your own risk!!

For anyone that needs to do a hard reset and are at a point where they can't get to the icon for it in the menu:

Switch off your phone, Hold the CALL-END and the CALL-MAKE buttons simultaneously, don't let go of them, power on your device, keep on holding until you see the format screen, then release the buttons and make your choice. however this will not format your "My Storage" drive.

NOW:

HIS SCREEN IS ALMOST TOOO SENSITIVE!!

this is what worked for him:

Improve Screen Calibration (sensitivity)
1. Open your Registry Editor(PHM Registry Editor)
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/HARDWARE/DEVICEMAP/TOUCH/
3. Click on CalibrationData
4. Value Data change to > 519,503 177,881 182,129 847,127 849,872
5. Click OK to save it.

You may also wish to copy down the old data before you input the new one.
His OLD Value Data was 505,512 172,875 163,147 846,148 829,876 and yours might be different a bit.

I will report back after I try, but there have been others over at Howard's forum + Modeco saying it does work!!

*edit* There have been mixed results being reported, so this may/may not work for you, as I mentioned, please play safe and always have a backup!!

The author of this one has joined the community!! Welcome Adrynalyne and thank you for the file, I am sure your work will be appreciated!!!!

The file that controls Samsung Today 2, secst.dll, is already on our device. So...if you install the Samsung Today 2 cab floating around, you are adding ~700kb of unnecessary wasted space, because you aren't overwriting the ROM file, really.

All is needed is to create a registry entry.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\ Samsung Today 2]
"Order"=dword:00000003
"Flags"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Options"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000005
"Selectability"=dword:00000002
"DLL"="secst.dll"

Thats it. Doesn't even require a reboot. This may also be the answer to those having issues with Samsung Today 2 on their VZW Omnias, too.

I was unable to import a .reg file with PHM registry editor, but if you have an app that can, here is the .reg file. (attached as 'sammy_2')

*NEXT*

For all the people that like using the mouse settings, or the d-pad settings but find it would be great to be able to switch on the fly (each can work better in different situations), take the attached file (Chfingermouse) place it in 'My Device > Windows > Startup > Programs' and then map it to a button (I use camera)! Works GREAT!!!

More to come!!!!

Okay for as much smack talk as I have had on some other posts, it may shock you to know that although I love gadgets and can usually just sit down and figure them out to pull off looking like a PC/electronics genius, I am sooooo not! I know (pause for the gasps and whispers "What? She doesn't know what she's talking about?"). Yeah, I can figure out how to work them and tweak them to an extent and there's lots of great tweaks/hacks here, but when I start to get into the actual steps, I'm getting a headache.:confused2:

So a few questions:

1. What is this Cooked ROM and KITCHEN I keep reading about? & if it's so much better then how do I get it?

2. Has anyone figured out the Vista sync WinMo 6.1 problem?

3. Which 1 of you GEEKS (I say this with LOVE) lives in SC area and can just pimp it out, tweak it, hack it, etc. for me? \\:D/

Like I said. I know what I want. I'm just trying to figure out the easiest way to get it.

syrguy1969 02-11-2009 10:21 AM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

1- A Kitchen is the programming that you dump an existing ROM into and 'cooking' it is adding and taking away bits + pieces to suit your needs (custom settings, apps....). There is no Kitchen or custom ROMs for the Omnia yet because we need a packaged ROM update from Samsung VZW to use in the kitchen. It isn't that they are generally that much better, but the ability to trim some of the useless bits and add your own uniquness to it (or use someone else's that fit your needs) really can enhance your usage of a PPC!!!

2- I don't use Vista, so I will have to let the experts handle that one (Adrynalyne....you out there???).

3- I am in Syracuse NY, so I'm not local to you, but willing to help with whatever I can!!!

You will need to elaborate on the Vista problem. I am using Vista and its syncing ok, through USB and BT. What issues are you having?

I am assuming PHM is alreasy installed. Just open it like any other app and use it like Explorer to get to where the reg setting your trying to get to is and it should be as easy as using the menu on the bottom bar and adding/changing settings accordingly. Reg changes can be tricky and dangerous to new users, so I would suggest either do a complete backup first, or ask in here for a specific reg tweak...most of them have been zipped for easy access!
