There were two profiles so I put it in both. It weird, but when I put the file into the first profile, the icon shows the Omnia in the folder. When I put it in the other one, it reverts back to the standard picture. So I tried just deleting the standard picture, but then nothing shows up when I open WMDC. I put the picture back and it stills shows as Omnia when not connected, then standard pic when connected.

Might want to delete all partnerships, remove the profile folders and create a new one.

Already tried that. Same thing happens. Old icon when plugged in, omnia picture when unplugged. I can not figure this out for the like of me.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Ok, try this then. Drop the sync.ico into the profile folder, then before syncing again, place it in the \Windows directory of your Omnia. Then try syncing again. Thats what I did originally, but figured it wasn't needed. Perhaps it is.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Now I don't use Vista for syncing, so I may not know what I am talking about here (believe me....I'm used to THAT) but what if you deleted all relationships on the PC + PPC, did the tweak Adrynalyne posted, and sync/renew relationships, thereby starting EVERYTHING anew.

Or maybe an uninstall / re-install the syncing app onto the PC + doing the tweak before the initial sync.

Think that may work?

I just stumbled upon the coolest thing ever.

I can edit my registry with CeRegeditor via Bluetooth!

Very cool.

You don't have to delete your partnership. You have to put the icon in your windows folder on the phone and then plug it in to the computer, let it sync and then delete the driver out of device manager. Unplug, and replug. That's how it worked on my xv6800. Haven't tried it on the omnia yet. Hope that helps.

Now I am 100% completely satisfied with it. I was able to fix my unhandled exception errors with it by running it as admin in Vista.

I had tried that originally and it did not work without manually replacing it under the profile folder.

At any rate...worth a shot.

Speed up applications in Windows Mobile by enforcing to use .NET 3.5 vs 2.0 (I haven't tried this one either)

1) First make sure you have .NET Compact 3.5 installed
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

2) Do registry fix
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373721

Maybe someone could help me with .NET as I don't think I'm "right". I don't remember in what order I did things but the bottom line is this:

When I try to run Mobile Monger I get an error saying "This application requires a newer version of .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device". Then I see a .NET CF Initialization Error saying "the app failed to load required components....".

So it sounds like I'm not up 3.5. So when I run the .NET CF 3.5 cab file I got from MS, I get an error telling me "The .NET Compact Framework version you are attempting to install already exists in ROM" and the installation fails.

FWIW, my registry is set so that 2.0 is 0 and 3.5 is 1. I believe I hacked that myself at some point. Also at some point in time, I recall going to Remove Programs and seeing 2.0 in the list and removed it thinking it would help. Now I see no .NET in Remove Programs at all.

At this point, I'm not sure 3.5 is properly installed (Monger says no). Can someone tell me if they see either 2.0 or 3.5 in their list in Remove Programs? Is there another method for me to determine where I am and how to fix things. Truthfully, I have no other symptom of a problem except not being able to run Monger but now I'm wondering if I am really running 3.5 and getting the speed improvement over 2.0 or not.

Thanks

Adrynalyne 01-21-2009 11:28 AM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

2.0 is only in remove programs if you added it.
3.5 is the same way, unless you are using a cooked ROM, and seeing that you are on Verizon, I am sure thats not the case.

So if 3.5 is not in remove programs, try installing it from the cab.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

JonV...did you do a backup before you started attempting this? Sometimes it helps to do a restore and start from scratch, that is why I always suggest backing up on a regular basis. Unles you get someone VERY comfortable with altering the registry, maybe trying to install NET 2.0 and see what it says. Maybe if you can get that installed you can trick the Omnia into upgrading 'back' to the 3.5 version.

Question, if you install the .NET 3.5 framework, can I now uninstall the 2.0 framework to save space?

I hardly ever have an issue. Lot's of problems though. Thank goodness I had problem solving classes. Do they have "issue resolution" classes now that all the problems have been solved?

Oh, sorry, apologies. I guess I have an issue with "issues". Never could figure out the distinction.

OK...I think the first few posts are getting kinda long, so I guess I will just start adding to the end (also serves as a bump)!!

Here is one I have seen requests for, so I hope it comes in useful:

Author's post:

"I made a little program to easily change the right-bottom Today's screen button properties and I want it to share with you. With this tool you can change the caption and the shortcut information.

I created this because I really didn't like the standard Samsung Application's menu. On my Omnia, the button is now linked to \windows\samsungprograms.exe , which is equivalent to the Start->Programs menu."

Oh my.

I found a reghack that really cleans up the sound on the Omnia, and makes it louder too. Only tested voice thus far.

Does this do anything to improve sound from the speakerphone?

I was trying to compare reg data but I couldn't locate the original in my registry. Does the phone sound any clearer or just louder? I though it sounded pretty clear to begin with and did the reg edit a while ago to increase call volume. Just curious what this will enhance.

Its not there. These entries are created with \Windows\soundtester.exe is used. However, soundtester seems to have problems with saving settings in the registry created by soundtester with the i910. I believe there is a trick to open a regeditor and run soundtest.exe, but I find the settings complicated, so used the hack.

I'll give it a try over the weekend and report my thoughts on improvement in sound on the device.

Anyone with screen rotation woes....

1 Attachment(s)
Some apps have issues with the screen rotation, like when people don't want S2U2 to rotate:

Features of RotationService:
Configurable list of plugins to show on homescreen in portrait/landscape modes
Ability to kill processes when switching to portrait/landscape
Two modes of controling Omnia's autorotate funcion (using accelerometer):
RotationService automatically enables autorotate feature only for applications on whitelist (all others have autorotate disabled)
RotationService automatically disables autorotate feature for applications on blacklist (all others have autorotate enabled)
Support for irritating Manila's behaviour of auto screen rotation to portrait (there are still some issues but I think the best way to resolve them is to modify Manila not to rotate the screen) /NOTE: when both are defined in config file then only whitelist feature works/
Fixed angles for chosen applications
Changlog:

1.2.2:
- some small fixes
- support for AppToDate

1.2.1:
- processes/exec names are now case-insensitive;
- changing plugins on today screen application now disables all of them and later enables only chosen ones (before it was disabling only plugins defined in config file in opposite section)

1.2.0:
- fix for NullReferenceException error when using wkTask

1.1.0:
- ability to define processes which will have fixed angle defined in config file (and disabled auto rotation). Check the config file how to define them (it's very simple).

Everything is configured by config.xml file which is has comments with descriptions of each section.
NOTE: Be sure not to make mistake in config file as the config reader will crash the application if it is inproper (to be fixed in the future).

To exit application just run it from Programs Menu - small Control Panel for Rotation Service will appear.
To reread the config file you need to choose Reload from Rotation Service Control Panel.

The attachment to this post contains version 1.2.2.
It automaticaly installs and put a shortcut to StartUp and Programs menus.
After installation you need to edit config.xml file in application directory.

As always - all sugestions and bugs reporting are welcome .

HOW TO CHECK EXECUTABLE NAME FOR APPLICATION:
- Download FdcTaskmanager from this site: http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm
- Install it
- Launch
- You will see lists of processes running on your Omnia
- Choose the record which you think can be the program you are looking for
- Choose Activate from Context Menu
- If the program's window appear you know the process name

What are your thought about this hack? I've it on my phone for about a week now and don't really notice a huge difference (if any).

Not sure if anyone pointed this out, but the 'sync.ico' needs to go into the windows directory of the device, not the PC. WMDC will transfer the file automaticly upon syncing to the PC. This is done when the profile/partnership is established. If you already have one, then copy the sync.ico to the profile directory as instructed before AS WELL as the Windows directory of the device.

Here is a good reference point that was for the i730, but it’s no different for the Omnia or any other WinMO device

Its worked for me everytime. Have you tried hard resetting the phone and copying the sync.ico? Then creating a partnership?
