Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

I figured I would start a thread to put all the reg settings, tweaks + tricks into one place!! I will fill in all the ones I have found in the past, but here are just a couple to start the ball rolling....feel free to contribute!!!

Screen sensitvity has been talked about a lot, and I ran across this just last night, so I haven't tried it out yet (I am waiting until I have time to work)!! As with any reg setting, I suggest doing a backup first, or keeping the old settings someplace for 'fixing' any possible problems no tweak is guaranteed to work, or not cause issues on your device, like anything else, they are at your own risk!!

For anyone that needs to do a hard reset and are at a point where they can't get to the icon for it in the menu:

Switch off your phone, Hold the CALL-END and the CALL-MAKE buttons simultaneously, don't let go of them, power on your device, keep on holding until you see the format screen, then release the buttons and make your choice. however this will not format your "My Storage" drive.

NOW:

HIS SCREEN IS ALMOST TOOO SENSITIVE!!

this is what worked for him:

Improve Screen Calibration (sensitivity)
1. Open your Registry Editor(PHM Registry Editor)
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/HARDWARE/DEVICEMAP/TOUCH/
3. Click on CalibrationData
4. Value Data change to > 519,503 177,881 182,129 847,127 849,872
5. Click OK to save it.

You may also wish to copy down the old data before you input the new one.
His OLD Value Data was 505,512 172,875 163,147 846,148 829,876 and yours might be different a bit.

I will report back after I try, but there have been others over at Howard's forum + Modeco saying it does work!!

*edit* There have been mixed results being reported, so this may/may not work for you, as I mentioned, please play safe and always have a backup!!

The author of this one has joined the community!! Welcome Adrynalyne and thank you for the file, I am sure your work will be appreciated!!!!

The file that controls Samsung Today 2, secst.dll, is already on our device. So...if you install the Samsung Today 2 cab floating around, you are adding ~700kb of unnecessary wasted space, because you aren't overwriting the ROM file, really.

All is needed is to create a registry entry.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\ Samsung Today 2]
"Order"=dword:00000003
"Flags"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Options"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000005
"Selectability"=dword:00000002
"DLL"="secst.dll"

Thats it. Doesn't even require a reboot. This may also be the answer to those having issues with Samsung Today 2 on their VZW Omnias, too.

I was unable to import a .reg file with PHM registry editor, but if you have an app that can, here is the .reg file. (attached as 'sammy_2')

For all the people that like using the mouse settings, or the d-pad settings but find it would be great to be able to switch on the fly (each can work better in different situations), take the attached file (Chfingermouse) place it in 'My Device > Windows > Start Menu > Programs' and then map it to a button (I use camera)! Works GREAT!!!

More to come!!!!

Increase call volume:

Lower Incoming Call Volume
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/CONTROLPANEL/SOUNDCATAGORIES/INCALL = INITVOL - WAS 2, CHANGED IT TO 4.

***and for BlueTooth volume: From OctaneMS over at Howard's forums!!!

Just import OctaneMS_SamsungBT.reg file into your phone's registry. I use CERegistryEditor which is free. Just connect you phone to you PC and and use the import feature in CERegistryEditor.

CERegistryEditor can be found at:http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/

Disable Samsung Dialer. Save 10MB of Memory

- Disabling of Samsung dialer: (I didn't care for this one, but if interested, see if it works for you)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin]
"Enabled"=dword:1, you should change to 0 and reboot your Omnia

Speed up applications in Windows Mobile by enforcing to use .NET 3.5 vs 2.0 (I haven't tried this one either)

1) First make sure you have .NET Compact 3.5 installed

2) Do registry fix

Here is one I am trying out tonight as well:

Change the cursor:
hklm/system/state/samsung/mouse
Change the CursorShape to a value from 0 to 24. No soft-reset required!

The filename is also mentioned in the key "FileName", haven't tried changing it, but you might be able to create custom cursors as well.

Notice that the cursor filename is +1 of the CursorShape value

For SPB Mobile Shell users using a different SMS app:

SOLUTION TO REMAP SMS AND CALLLOG-BUTTON TO USER DEFINED PROGRAMS

SMS-Button:

Open your favorite registry editor and go to "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\RAI\:MSINBOX" and change the value "1" from "tmail.exe" to the path of the program you wanna launch. And do not forget to set the " " ! For example:

"My Storage\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

Save and your done, the SMS button on the main screen of spb mobile shell should now launch VITO SMS Chat.

CallLog-Button:

Go to your windows folder on your phone and copy the file CallLog.exe to another directory, just for backup purpose. Open the attached file CallLog.run with any texteditor you have. Change the path inside to the program you wanna open with the CallLog button. No " " this time. Save and copy it with the also attached file CallLog.exe to your windows folder on your phone. Overwrite the existing CallLog.exe, ignore the warnings. Should work now.

No Solution for calendar yet and i dont use the mail button .

Tested on Samsung Omnia with german WM 6.1.

That does look interesting, I have thought about changing fonts in the past, but I was always leary of having it changed in EVERYTHING!!!!

I see it offers a few choices of areas, but I am still leary about it. I would LOVE to change the font on S2U2, and maybe on the icons, but I am not sure about in texting, or contacts, notes.....

Also....do you know of a sample page of fonts so we can see before trying?

Thanks

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Not other than googling, no :(

You could always use a font viewer on your computer and preview what they look like. This wont change every font, unfortunately. For example, everything under Launcher.exe is unaffected, as far as I can tell.

Skin your Main Menu.

Copy \Windows\launcher.exe.T1.skin to your desktop. Use Resource Hacker to edit the BMP resources or 212,214 for protrait and 213, 215 for landscape. Then overwrite the original and soft reset. Use something like Resco File Explorer. To revert, simply delete the file.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

I got tried of having to manually do registry fixes each time I hard reset my phone to test new interfaces so made a single registry file containing all of the setting I usually set to improve performances. You can find them on my blog under the big DOWNLOAD button

http://knguyentu.com/wordpress/2009/...900-unleashed/

It contains all of these in one registry file.
- Activate Samsung Today 2 (w/o having to install a custom cab)
- Disable Samsung Dialer (save 10MB RAM)
- Improve Touch Accuracy through calibration
- Improve Touch Sensitivity through calibration
- Enforce the usage of Microsoft .NET 3.5 Framework
- Activate and Performance Tune File Cache
- Increase InCall Volume
- Disable auto popup of Samsung Keyboard

PHP Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\Samsung Today 2]
"Type"=dword:00000005
"Order"=dword:00000003

"DownUp"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin]
“Enabled”=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip]

Let me know what you think and if there are any other good one that should be incorporated.

Note: This is based upon the assumption you have Microsoft .NET 3.5 already installed.

To Use:
- open any registry editor such as Resco and import the .reg file
- Soft Reboot
- Done!

I hope the missing "\" everywhere is just a forum formatting error. Otherwise, that is going to make one ugly mess of the WM registry.

Ok, does the sensitivity thing really work? It looks like it is just the (x,y) cooridinate of the "+"'s that you have to push. How would changing that affect your sensitivity?

Adrynalyne 01-06-2009 06:47 AM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

When you open messaging for text or email, it should have skinned it in the traditional "silver" theme of Samsung, like PhoneBook. Make sure the registry edit stuck, if you soft reset too soon, you lose the change due to the registry not yet written to "disk" (main memory).

In regards to the calibration hack, I tried it. It put my calibration slightly off, towards the top of keys. I removed it shortly after. I can't say it improved anything for me.

As I mentioned in the first couple posts, I haven't tried all these, and some seem to work on most devices, but not others.... I am glad we are getting this feedback though, it helps us establish the reliable ones compared to the 'finicky' ones!!! Thanks guys, I'm loving the feedback!!!

There are two pieces to it. One is the coordinates, when using a stylus sometime you pressing the coordinate on calibration isn't always on the spot it shows.

The second piece is the click sensor. There is a registry hack to increase the sensor on it.

Seems to improve on mine with these, I've read other have done it with improvements too.

"Click"=dword:000008FC

That changes the click sensor. Not sure why the registry itself change the value 2300 to 2EE on export, but i basically put in 2300 and 750

Looking at the screen shots closer I see a program called WMWIfiRouter... Went to there site and I am confused - will this work with Verizon? I have their National Access Data Plan - not the Broadband (I think they call it) - disclaimer from the WMWifiRouter site was something about...

To use WMWifiRouter you need the following on your mobile device*:
  • Windows Mobile 5 AKU 3.3 or newer or Windows Mobile 6
  • Both a wifi and a cellular data connection
  • An installed and working version of Internet Sharing**
  • 15 MB of free device memory
* Additional requirements may apply.
** Some providers remove Internet Sharing from their branded devices.

Installed and working version of Internet Sharing... Help is appreciated...

This is not condoned or allowed by Verizon, so use it at your own risk, but understand, you are on an unlimited data plan. The Omnia requires it.

Are those cursors tiny little GIFs? I wonder if it would be a big deal to create your own & replace some of the 0-20 options with your own creation.

Create a String Value named Default. For the value, name is Low Battery Warning.
You will now be able to modify the settings under Notifcations.
Or import this reg file.

I downloaded and ran the ZIP. It appeared to create a new "string value" (?) with a value name of "Default" in the main Notifications file. When I look at it's "value data", it is blank. I assume I now type "Low Battery" into this Value Data?

However, if I go back and look at the list of files under Notifications, I find a file called "Default" there too and inside it are these:

Duration
LedRefCount
Options
Wave

How to reconcile this?

Adrynalyne 01-08-2009 03:48 AM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Vlaue Data should be Low Battery Warning.

PHM Registry editor must be flaky. I know that those files are accurate, because I exported them directly off my device from those locations. I stopped using it, Resco is truly amazing, and finger friendly.
