Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

You have a corrupted file. Make sure you compare file sizes of what you download vs. what is online.

x420d 05-23-2009 03:15 PM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

You were correct.. the .cab on my phone was only 51k vs 3M..

one more question, after installing i do not see a black background/wallpaper. do i have to do any extra configuration after installing the cab?
i did a different samsung today2 screen prior to upgrading to your version, should this matter? i do see that the icons have changed to the ones that your .jpg show for the today2 screen.

thanks

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Yeah you will need to change your background. Thats just the normal today settings. If you provide me with the screenshot you are looking at, I might still have the wallpaper around here.

Adrynalyne
thanks i got a "mostly black" wallpaper and applied it to the omnia, looks great with your new icons.
now all i need is to be able to make the top and bottom bars black in the today screen :)

thanks again

So, I'm completely new ... to my omnia and here ... anyone have any advice as to where to go, how to start learning all of this lingo? I did manage to download Pandora to my phone today, and I am eternally grateful to whoever figured that out!
Anyway, any advice is appreciated. I'd love to change my Today screen, it seems so busy. What do I have to do to change it?

Welcome to the community, there are a LOT of resources here for whatever you decide you want to do. We have the possibilities of flashing to new ROMs now that will unlock the GPS, give you loads of more memory to work with, and even different types of Today screens to use. My first suggestion would be to read through some threads first, especially the My Today screen thread, the upgrade threads, and whatever else catches your eye. After that, formulate in your mind what you want your Omnia to look/act like and then we can help you out better.

Where did you get Pandora and does your keyboard work with it? Mine has disappeared.

Very grateful for the registry hacks in this thread! Question - when I try to change some values, I often get the message: Access Denied! Is there something I need to disable, or does my phone somehow recognize my inexperience in this area and is protecting me? :-)

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

What app are you using to try and make these changes with? If your not using a reg editor, you can't do most of these tweaks. There are other things that you can do with the stock file explorer, but sometimes if an app (or whatever is associated with the tweak your doing) is running, it won't let you procede.

Um.....secondary camera?

syrguy1969 05-29-2009 05:23 PM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

I think that is in reference to the front camera for video calls. It was removed fron the i910 (the i900 has one), but since VZW doesn't support video calling anyway, it isn't really that big of an issue for most.

Ted

I found that this happens often. Very often.

A workaround is to assign a hardware key to the keyboard using Settings/Buttons. IE set camera hold to the keyboard; when it is needed (in any app) just hold the camera button and the keyboard will appear.

I cannot remember who posted the original workaround. If I do I'll edit this post to give him credit.

Unless you are using a cooked rom where its been removed, look for plusseccontact.exe in your \Windows folder.

I have read throught his entire thread from start to finish once before, and after being completely drained by all the information I thank you all for the tips in making making my omnia a little more user friendly.

I have one thing that I need and cannot seem to find again.

There was an app here or a reg hack that i used to make the x ACTUALLY close the application i was using rather than minimise it.

Cant remember for the life of me what it is called, PLEASE someone point me in the right direction.

Have trid magic button, works but when i go to main menu and use exit to close it doesnt lol.

and have tried HTC Task Manager, which seems to do nothing at all and cannot even find it to uninstall it.

thanks in advance for anyone that can rem,ind me where or what the hack/app i need is, cheers

yes, HTC task manager works. in order to make it close make sure the quick menu is enabled by changing to registry key for it:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\TaskManager
Dword: EnableQMenu

Set it to 1.

after that's done, the icon in the top right corner should look like two and half horizontal lines and an arrow pointing down.

open that up, select the wrench icon.

go to the "Button" tab and select "Enable the 'X' button to end running programs" and then "End programs by tapping 'X'"

you should be set after that.

I like the less cluttered Samsung Today 2 but do not care for the Phonebook at the top. Is there a way to direct that to the normal contacts list?

- Disable Samsung Dialer (save 10MB RAM)
- Improve Touch Accuracy through calibration
- Improve Touch Sensitivity through calibration
- Enforce the usage of Microsoft .NET 3.5 Framework

To Use:
- open any registry editor such as Resco and import the .reg file
- Soft Reboot
- Done!

Are these the ones for the activate and tune?

After i did these my phone wont change its orientation where the d-pad is pointing to the north. I does the normal upright where the dpad is point south and both lanscapes.

Anyone know why?

1 Attachment(s)
i910 1% battery driver. Patched by kabkab on Modaco so all thanks go to him. You must use Resco Explorer or Total Commander to overwrite your existing driver. Reports are very good so far but you install this at your own risk.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Ok, i just had a GAY moment here.
So, i got a link for a Program that will allow you to see and change the settings for the Windows GPS Intermediate Drivers.
So, after having the CC20 update, i ran this and Change the Settings to Port 8 for Program, None for Hardware, and 57600 for BAUD from its 300. and BOOM, it work PERFECTLY with Google Maps AND Live Search. Live Search just grabbed it right away and used it when i changed the setting into it to use GPS Intermediate Drivers. It was like BOOM and it works. So i recommend doing that and the GPS will work fine. Yes, i only got between 3-5 Satellites here where my Bluetooth Adaptor would get my 8, but still, the fact i don't have to haul that around makes me happier.
Now when i am stuck in a City and don't know which way to go, this will SOOOOO help.

Well, you can delete the driver and your old one will be there still. You might have to rename it first and then do a soft reset.

Hello everyone,

Nice Omnia thread!

I'm a long time winmo user but for the love of God I haven't found a way of removing the damn ALS (Line 1) icon and battery icons from the top menu.

I already selected the show clock on all programs option but the battery icon still shows up on the Today screen. Any ideas?

On the ALS icon, I really find it useless if you have only one line on your SIM. It's a waste of space and worst thing, the icon looks like a call in progress icon!

I already searched the forums with no avail.

Thanks!
RayanMX

I had the same issue. I have a Verizon i-910, purchased 2-25-09. I also did the overwrite, since apparently you cannot rename a .dll file that is in the original rom, which is what I am using. I restored from my backup from day before. Now working with the 20% increments again.

When I had the 1% .dll on my phone, it shows the same exclamation point, showed charging, even though it was showing no % bar at all and was not plugged in.

Sounded so promising.:(:( Wish it had worked.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Hi, I'm maja from romania and this is my first post
I hope you will help
-someone ask: how to do see the battery?

-go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell
-change the two values: ShowTitleBarClock and TBOpt
-cases:
1.ShowTitleBarClock=1 si TBOpt=0....does not show anything
2.ShowTitleBarClock=0 si TBOpt=1....show only the battery
3.ShowTitleBarClock=1 si TBOpt=1....show only the time
4.ShowTitleBarClock=1 si TBOpt=2....show only the date
5.ShowTitleBarClock=1 si TBOpt=3....show only the date and time

-if you do not have the two values: ShowTitleBarClock and TBOpt, you can create:
-click edit/new dword value...value name=ShowTitleBarClock and value data=0 or 1
-click edit/new string value...value name=TBOpt and value data=0 or 1 or 2 or 3

Hi Guys:
Does anyone know of a finger friendly keyboard for the Omnia?, the samsung keyboard's keys are too small and I keep unintentionally pushing buttons I don't want. Any ideas?

syrguy1969 06-04-2009 04:34 PM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

WOW...do you have choices there!!!!

The two tops paid keyboards would have to be SPB (has a full screen mode) and RESCO (I used to use that one, pretty good on the Omnia)!!

http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/keyboard
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/keyboard/

There are a couple good free ones as well, PocketCM and Finger Keyboard (I currently use Finger Keyboeard, it is pretty finger friendly, skinnable, and has some cool features)!

http://www.pocketcm.com/keyboard2.php

Finger Keyboard at both of these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487677
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...inger+keyboard

There is a new version of Touchpal that I have heard good things about, but haven't used:

http://www.cootek.com/

I have used all of these (except the new version of Touchpal), and they are all good, but for the finger friendly reason, I would direct you to RESCO or SPB. RESCO is very good in portrait, but SPB has the full-screen mode that really can't be beat in the pure finger friendly sense.

I like Finger Keyboard, but it is a bit smaller than the two pay apps, but it is great in landscape, many skins and full support at both XDA and here, so you may want to give this a shot.
