Thanks. I'm assuming the original cab you posted a few posts back is the one you updated? You didn't put a new one elsewhere? Thanks again.

Right. I updated the original post for it.

You can always clear out your temp files with ClearTemp http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2009/01/...pocket-pc.html
which should help out with your storage issue. You can also have your attachments stored on your storage card as opposed to your main storage. Go to Inbox, Menu, Tools, Options, Storage Tab, Check 'When available, use this storage card to store attachments'. Viola!

I understand the mouse settings for slow and fast.. I had mine set to fast and the number was 3001 in the reg.. I change it to 6001 and is MUCH faster than it was previously under the " fast " setting .

All is needed is to create a registry entry.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\ Samsung Today 2]
"Order"=dword:00000003
"Flags"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Options"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000005
"Selectability"=dword:00000002
"DLL"="secst.dll"

Thats it. Doesn't even require a reboot. This may also be the answer to those having issues with Samsung Today 2 on their VZW Omnias, too.

I was unable to import a .reg file with PHM registry editor, but if you have an app that can, here is the .reg file. (attached as 'sammy_2')

How do I do the bold part? I was able to add the other values as Dwords and put the setting at the specific number...but how do I do the DLL thing???

Help a Techno. Challenged Mom! I think I understand most stuff, but juse where should I install this? Should I install it in the Windows of my Omnia or should I install using my 3rd party app. Resco Explorer. I'll be happy to donate with this and future assistance on other tips and tricks. I just need specific details. I can handle it. I'm not that Techno. Challenged.
Thank you in advance for your time and efforts with a follow-up to this question. I look forward to your reply.

abb...no worries, we will have you techno-savvy in no time. That post your refering to is a zip file containing a reg setting/file, all you need to do is to download the file, un-zip the reg file and place it anywhere on your device (main memory, My Memory, or even a storage card) and then just click on it. The setting will automatically make the change it needs to on your device and you have nothing more to do than enjoy the change made by the file!!!

Hope that helps!!!

P.S. Wolcome to the community :-)

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

When I did it, I downloaded the .cab (file in the link you provided) to my desktop/laptop. I connected my phone to my laptop via the USB cable. Go into the phone Settings>Connections Tab>USB Connection Mode and make sure Mass Storage is selected and hit ok. Then go into your PC My Computer and select the drive that comes up as an external/usb/device/etc (which will be your phone you just connected). Copy and paste the .cab file you downloded into that drive. Go back into your Settings>Connections Tab and select the ActiveSync option instead of the Mass Storage (Otherwise your storage card drive will not show up in the File Explorer list). Disconnect your phone from the PC and go into Programs>File Explorer>My Storage. The my storage folder will be the folder icon in the list with a chip icon over it. Open the my storage and find the Samsung Today 2 Cab file. Select it and it will start to install the file. It will ask you if you want it stored on Device or Storage Card. Select Device and hit ok.

Once installed, go to Settings>Personal Tab>Today. Click on the Items Tab and make sure the Samsung Today 2 box is checked. Uncheck the Samnsung Today and Samsung Widget boxes if they are checked.

You are good to go!

I also just realized the file was a zip. I am usually the one getting the help on these boards and I got excited I could actually help someone else and I did not pay attention to the file type! Oh well, at least abb now will have directions to install .cab files!:)

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

How do I configure omnia to install all files on the "My Storage" rather than the "Main Memory Storage" using a reg editor? You guys familiar with "ProgramFilesDir" in windows right? changing the path saves you space in that small 90+ mb main memory storage area. If samsung just made that area bigger and much more wider options to save in another media could have been better. I use a lot of skyscape apps and it easily consumes the main memory storage even if I choose to install the apps by choosing location to "My storage" upon prompt, still some files are stored in the main memory. Any tips guys?

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Hi Omni'ers. I've been fiddling with the screen touch sensitivity for the past couple of days and found one that suits me and thought I'd share.

(very sensitive):
HKLM/HARDWARE/DEVICEMAP/TOUCH
click = 5120
downUp= 896

This change made the texting faster and strangely more accurate, my fingers just glide(and tap) over the letters. I had a much higher downup value but when trying to configure S2U2 the screen would slide up and down like crazy so I ended up with this.

Also: I diabled the Sammy Dialer (-10MB) which disabled the screen lock during a call and tested these settings out because of the increased sensitivity of the screen. Rarely did my ear push a random soft button (usually the Start Menu icon). All this was done after the GPS unlock firmware update.

Does anyone have a screen lock solution for the default dialer while on a call? Tried S2U2 but all it seems to do is make the screen blank (black) until it's woken up somehow.

None of this could have been done without you guys at PPCGeeks! Who needs an iPhone when they have a completely customizable Sammy Omnia!

Adrynalyne 04-15-2009 04:40 PM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Yep, search the forum for the patched dialer. I created it a while back.

If you find bugs though, you will need to take the project over, because the new beta rom introduced a switch to increase time until it locks, or turn off altogether.

Makes my life easier :)

Also, saving that 10mb of ram is only during a call. I don't need ram during a call ;)

Doh! You're right. :-k "ram" being the key word...

Cool, I'll do a search for it. This thread is so long now and I'm trying to read it from the beginning just incase I missed something awesome.

Is there a way to turn off led light while omnia is plugged to the pc using USB? I use it to sync and charge. Is there a registry tweak or way to like turn it off while charging? One thing also, is it possible to automatically enable keypad lock when answering a call and automatically unlock when someone is calling? TIA

no such thing as a "free" version of spb mobile shell. however, there's a trial version on their website.

you could get "creative" and search google. :)

if you don't want to put out the cash for it, then go with an alternative. there's plenty mentioned here.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

First off I'd like to say theres so much good information in this thread! As a WM tweaker and a new i910 user, after this thread came up on 3 different google searches for tweaks, I figured it was time to give it a full read. But after 2 hours and several soft resets Im skipping to the end with a question.

Im using keyswop to make my left soft key a shortcut to resco expl, but everytime I get an email this changes to "notification". I have the sounds and notifications--> set to not put a msg on screen for email, but it still does. I have 5 email addys coming to my phone set to send/recieve every 15 mins so this gets quite annoying having to dismiss all those notification to get to my explorer shortcut. Im using the new firmware thats posted over on modaco, (which rocks! gps, disabled threading, ect. all working excellent!) wih the samsung online widget. I would be very happy if theres a reg edit to disable only the soft key email notification, and NOT the notification comes up from widget bar. Thanks guys -TG

Yes, it's for the Omnia i910 from Verizon.

You can find the GPS stuff here in this thread:

Its on Modoco and the theiDoctor link is helpful as well.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

I;m thinking of going to the Omnia. What I haven't been able to find out is whether the Omnia can be flashed with a custom ROM the same way Ive flashed my Touch Diamond? In other words, the carrier's ROM and format is gone and is replaced by a custom job. Is this possible with the Omnia, too?

KodiakClark 04-22-2009 02:43 PM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

It just became possible about a week ago. A new ROM was released, which unlocked the GPS. With the new release Kitchen's for the Omnia started coming out of the wood work. I know of a cople over at XDA, Modaco, and here.

Sorry to keep asking the same question but I have not seen a reply to this. Is there an existing fix for this or possibly something coming out in the new ROM? This is the only real problem I have with the phone and it drives me nuts. I appreciate all of the help you guys provide. Any help here would be truely appreciated.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Does the Omnia have to be Unlocked to fiddle the ROM?

What I'm hoping for is that I can do to the Omnia what I did to the HTC Diamond: completely remove the carrier's formatting by flashing a new ROM.

This raises the possibility that some agent or seller can activate the phone with another carrier. I will find out with the HTC in about 10 days.

The ROM that was released was a Verizon ROM, but that's not to say a completely custom ROM won't come out of the kitchens. As for activating it on another carrier, the i910 is CDMA so you'll only be able to activate it on CDMA networks, which limits your carriers.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Hey guys, I've been lurking around the site for some time and really appreciate all the info ya'll are willing to share. I've learned a lot so far and haven't had a "problem" I couldn't solve till now.

Earlier in this thread the custom taskbar was mentioned. It was packaged on a cab in this thread. I've tried downloading these (mostly ones from http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...custom+taskbar) and all seems cool except for the signal icon and the EV icon, but I think the EV icon is another issue altogether. I read in that thread that the signal icon won't work unless a reg edit is done to allow more signal bars to show. Seems the Omnia only shows 2 by default. (I'm using the i910) I read several pages of that thread to see if someone already posted an edit for this but that thread is huge, lol.

I came to this thread to see if an edit had been posted for this but haven't come across anything. (sorry if I missed it) I decided to try asking ya'll first since you guys are really knowledgeable with the Omnia. Is there such an edit or will I have to make due with just the speaker and battery icons. Thanks a bunch for any help ya'll can give. :)
