Thanks very much. I will give that a try. Thanks for reposting it in the next thread. The one I originally downloaded was named different.

A novice question. To use a backup program like Resco, should you download it to your computer or to your phone directly? Same question regarding a registry editor program like CERegEditor. Also, on the same note, do you edit your registry from your computer or from your phone? Thanks for the help.

Adrynalyne 04-01-2009 01:33 AM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

CEReg allows you to edit from your computer. Otherwise, backup apps and editors generally run from your phone.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Here we go again. Okay. I copied the file to my computer and renamed it lowbatt.wma. The problem now is getting it to the Windows folder. If I connect the phone for active sync, it only allows me to look at the mobile device and some files. Windows is not one of them. If I connect as Mass Storage, I can only look at storage, no mobile programs such as Windows.

I saved the file to the Mass Storage and went into the phone and copied it, but it won't allow me to save to the Windows file without Windows files all opening. Then I don't know which file to save to. Sorry if this sounds ridiculous, but I'm struggling with putting this where it should go. Thanks for your patience.

OK....open your File Explorer, navigate to your sound file and copy it. Then, click on the upper menu (where is has an image of a memory card saying 'My Storage' and it will open a little menu, click on 'My Device'. You will see a list of folders + files. One of the folders is named 'Windows' click on that one....it will take a minute to load, but it will. Once you see the file names, just click the lower right menu 'Menu', Edit, and paste. that will past your copy of the sound file into the folder prompting the request to OK over-writing the original. Don't worry about scrolling down to find the original unless you want to rename or copy it somewhere else for future use.

Windows is a hidden folder, so you have to show hidden files and folders on your computer. That said, it doesn't matter, you cannot copy this from a PC to the phone, into the right place.

I could go through the long winded method and tell you to use Resco, but its just as simple to make an installer.

Here ya go.

Not at all! Especially since it's "your" thread! :)

I'd love it if more people chimed in. I guess I should give my own as well (and these are subject to change with the ground up install I'm in the process of putting together)...

1. I love Total Commander, but I've installed CeRegEditor on my PC now for more in depth RegEdits. I like that Total Commander is free and functions in every way I need (move files, edit .dll's and .ini's, RegEdit, etc.)

2. After exploring a lot of the free options out there, I've gone with Today 2. It doesn't add any files to the phone and I like it's simplicity. I do keep *****ing about that awful, real estate hogging, fugly clock though.

And I do love what I've seen of the HTC cube rotation animation, etc., but I don't know that I want to clutter my phone trying to imitate that.

3. I actually don't use a screen lock. I've just got my phone set to only wake when the power button (top, tiny button) is pushed. I never have to worry about pocket dialing. I'm being tempted by the pretty clocks of PocketShield and S2U2 though. :)

4. Haven't found any yet, but I guess I'll be trying out Adrynalyne's HTC Quick Launch recommend. I'm having some trouble finding a download though. :dontknow: Embarrassing.

5. I specifically remember someone mentioning this hack on a thread somewhere, but I also remembering to myself, "do I really need that .25" of space?" Yes. I need that .25" of space.

6. I was going to try iContact (in fact, I think I even installed it but never used it), but I started using PocketCM and never looked back. I am interested in the integration with iDialer (which I really like because of the GIANT buttons... I wish the Samsung/WinMo dialer looked/functioned more like this). PocketCM's screen transitions, skins and threaded SMS are just sooooo nice.

@syrguy1969: I like what I've seen of SBP, but I don't want to pay for a shell replacement. Same with Resco on the RegEdit/File Explorer front (I'm a cheap bastard :)).

@Adrynalyne and Peripatetic Bibliophage: wish I'd have known about the Registry Backup before my phone crapped out. Yesterday was almost entirely gobbled up by phone hacks and tweaks. Not a responsible use of my day. Ouch.

Thanks guys for letting us know what you use! Anybody else: feel fry to chime in!

Hilarious. Didn't realize this forum had "auto-censoring!"

Also didn't realize TV legal swears (*****?) were out-of-bounds.

I *think* UltimateLaunch can be fit into that remaining space without scrollbars. It has a cube animation, and is a nice app launcher.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

I was wondering, if anyone knows how to enhance the signal strength of the CDMA 1xRTT. Visiting the Verizon's store and talking to one of the techs, he explained that Verizon gives priority to the EV-DO signal vs 1xRTT. He remembered seeing a cab file that will do that at XDA Developels site. I can not find it. I desperately need your help to enhance my 1xRTT signal.

Thanks in advance

Jim

Adrynalyne 04-01-2009 02:43 PM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

I think the tech is probably wrong. Why would Verizon give priority to a data signal, over a voice signal?

Great way to lose customers. If a phone isn't a phone....

If you want to enhance your signal, you will probably need a Femtocell.

:)Thanks. I had gotten as far as being ready to paste last time, but I didn't know if it would put it in a specific folder or not. I followed your instructions. Everything worked except it never asked me to overwrite. The file now exist amongst all the other windows files and applications. I will wait and see if the battery beeps when it hits 50%. I appreciate your patience and help.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Which set of instructions did you follow? If you followed mine, you should have had a confirmation to over-write (I am willing to bet your silent file was named incorrectly).

I would suggest using Adrynalyne's CAB, it is very easy doing it that way.

Peripatetic Bibliophage 04-01-2009 11:38 PM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Syrguy. I did follow yours. When I originally downloaded it to my computer, I renamed it lowbatt.wma using the rename feature on a right click. I then sent it to Mass Storage and went from there. It does show up now as lowbatt.wma in windows on the phone, but never asked to overwrite anything.
I'm being humbled talking with you guys. I would love to learn more about programming and such. I went back and opened Adrynalyne's cab and ran the setup and it saved to my computer. (I sound like a dummy now.) Where to from here? Or should I have saved it to the Mass Storage. I need to learn much more about all of this. ](*,) What's the next step? Thank you again and again.

syrguy1969 04-02-2009 08:51 AM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Don't worry about asking questions, we all had to start somewhere, and I am by no means any expert LOL I have just had a little experience in some of these issues...that is all....really :-) !!

As for the CAB, all you do is save the entire file to your storage on the Omnia, and use file explorer to get to it and just click on it. You will see installation occur, that means it is working!!

You don't open the CAB file, or unpack it at all. Think of it like a program you place on your PPC ant run there.

See how that goes and let us know!!

My guess is that it's not working because you're creatin a .wma file. Is this correct? All my system sounds are .wav, not .wma. Just checking.

Also, my filename for that sound is phonelowbatt.wav.

what is this cab for? the battery alert? if so AWESOME. where is it I must have missed it somewhere. Oh and I added in the app where I can check stuf by press holding an icon on my today screen...I accidentally hid the icon and can't figure out how to get it back...forget what it is called..

edit: home screen plus plus.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Be a beta tester :)

Basically, its a bandaid, not really a fix. It won't stop the popups, just the noise, hopefully.

Not exactly elegant, but eh...

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Just installed it to my device. We'll see what happens when my battery runs down some. How do I get the home plus plus row back? i clicked off the main row by mistake and now I can't get it back...any idea?

edit: of and can you do a cab to shut up the battery fully charged sound?

Adrynalyne 04-02-2009 01:30 PM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Thats a combination of files. It would potentially disable some of the sounds for other alerts, too.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Im using the CAB as well, I am not sure if I let my battery go down low enough, but I was getting the popup, and not the sound, so that is a good sign. Unfortunately Im charging it now so that I can mess with my phone on the ride home, but Ill try to make it die out tonight so I can test it.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

If you got the pop-up without the tone, I think it is a done deal!! Let us know if it is consistant, but I think you got it!!

Omega Ra 04-02-2009 09:18 PM

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

well by the time I got home and put it on the charger I didn't get any alert or notification...but according to home screen ++ I was only at around 60%ish.. I will try to drain it a bit more tomorrow and see what happens.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

Has anyone else had this problem? On my SMS messages for some reason the recieved times are completely out of whack. If I send a message at 2:00pm and get a return message right away the threading will have my message time correct but the incoming message will read as recieved at 6:00am or something like that. It's not really a problem just kinda annoying.
If anyone knows how to fix this I'd really appreciate it.

Does anyone know how to stop S2U2 from waking the screen up when I get an SMS, MMS, or email? I really like the notification aspect and the preview but I don't like the fact that it wakes up.

Re: Omnia Hacks / Tips / Tricks

I think I may have seen a cab awhile back for this but if not... I found a registry tweak to change the color of the title bars.

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Color/ ( color located just under the clock entry)

Change the " BaseHue" DWORD value , trial by color.

My default was set at 7719918, I've change it to everything from 4 and 7 digit combinations and found every color under the sun.. currently have it at 3456 just for fun but still looking for just the right one..

Hope someone finds this useful..

One more, not sure if this is out there yet..

Change your mouse speed .

hklm/system/state/samsung/mouse.. Change DWORD value " speed" to 6001.. Default was set at 3001.. Mine seems to be more responsive after the change..

Hope this is helpful..

Go to Programs/Clock, then pull down the menu for "World Clock." Is your home time zone set correctly?

:(Adrynalyne and Syrguy. I'm back. :(. As I previously mentioned, I finally loaded the cab Adrynalyne wrote and it installed quick and easily. I waited. Today my battery got to 50% and the low battery alert was there beeping every 5 minutes again. I saw another posts after mine that said something about "crappy registry information" and that you were going to update the cab. Did this apply to the battery cab? Do I need to install another new one? Thanks again!
